? Under violent skies we lay ? Wait for the storm to pass ? We're making love in our own way ? As we both watched the lightning crash ? Can't stand this weather falling all around my head ? But I will see this through ? I couldn't get no closer ? ? But you know I'd love to try for I am into you ? Ohhhh, these cloudy skies they change my view ? And everything comes back to you ? Our lives will never have to wait ? Just you and I this great escape ? The moon will turn these tides away ? And we will have our freedom soon ? I could say I love you but the scenery is speaking up for me ? I know I said, I know I said I'd bend the rules ? ? I am the earth, I am the ground, I am the king now ? Ohhhh, these cloudy skies they change my view ? And everything comes back to you ? Our lives will never have to wait ? Just you and I this great escape ? Are you thinking while I'm dreaming ? Got to get you out ? We'll be back someday ? Oooh I gotta gotta.. ooooh, yeah. ? ? Ohhhh, these cloudy skies they change my view ? And everything comes back to you ? Our lives will never have to wait ? Just you and I this great escape ? Ohhhh, these cloudy skies they change my view ? And everything comes back to you ? Our lives will never have to wait ? Just you and I this great escape ? I was alone ? ? Oh but you were holding me ? We fell in the deep blue sea ? We found our way home ? This is the way ? Happiness was meant to be ? This became our destiny ? these are my sky blues ? I am the waves.. ? the waves.. ? ? Take it to the sun ? I'll be your Neptune champion?
you can clearly hear the hendrix / srv influence on the guitar playing, and the influence of having no experience / training on his singing. but he turned into a grammy-winning singer pretty swiftly!
This vocal style was emulated in droves then and through the 2000s. He blended his Dave Matthew’s and Vedder here very well. He has always had a deeper speaking voice so no surprise this was probably comfortable for him to sing in this style and range.
If you pay attention to any old interviews and such, youll notice he often mentioned how he struggled with finding his "voice". This is just one of them i suppose. Cool though.
***** What the guy meant when saying finding his voice is, He had a hard time finds his style , His place in music, Where he though he fit, Not finding his voice.
I love it!!! It's a bit hard to believe, but you can clearly make out the sound of him compared to his early albums. Right now it actually feels like a jump back in time. And it makes you somehow empathetic for the view of an 18 year old. Dunno..I just feel like facing the big vacation after graduation from high school *_*
Or Clay Cook maybe? I find that the only bit that slightly ruins these demos, just like in Live On. I don't mind John's Eddie Vedder voice so much (it's actually pretty cool) but the the harmonies don't sound right to me.
Happy to hear John is going to tour this year playing his original, old school stuff on acoustic, electric and piano.
Sounds totally like Pearl Jam bt cool though
So, John Mayer was once the lead singer of Pearl Jam?
Man, I listened to this during one blissful rainy day. Memory formed.
Exact same
He sound like Eddie Edder in this song
for the ones that are talking.. john was like 18 here.. so deal with it

i thought this was dave mathews for a second lol
I agree. it must be inspired by the band.
+sam116pj If it weren't for the simplistic drums and whatnot, I would have honestly thought this was an outtake from DMB's first album.
Me too😂
he told that the first big show he went was from dave
Yeah
I feel so happy because I found a hidden gem. :D

Love hearing that Jimi influence bleed through on the guitar...
Similarly SVR influenced him most (personally)
This screams Eddie Vedder

This is one of my favourite songs of all time. Allthough its just some demo from John's high school years.

***** in John Mayer : Someday I'll Fly - 04:12 He wears Pearl Jam's Shirt :D This song is so 90's and influenced by Pearl Jam
Pearl jam sounding
*phew, glad he's like everyone else when he started out. ha.
FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG!!!
Dat grunge voice lol
i'm in love with the way of john plays on his guitar , like Stevie Melodies he start legend and Still Big Master
its good to know we all start somewhere. doesnt he sound like eddie veder
Thanks.
actually, he was hahah.. he just sings differently
Let’s all be honest Rich Wolf is really shredding here!
Is this actually John singing? I just can't believe that could be the same person singing as in his own songs... Anyone?
sounds exactly like him, he just sings in a weird way

Finn Sullivan it’s different cause he didn’t form his vocals as we know now
this is gold
I love John Mayer but 1:16 sounds like fucking Kermit and I would know.
Why does the voice sound like Eddie Vedder's xD?
JM sings the verses. Joe Beleznay (sp?) sings harmonies.

Idk... I like this believe it or not
sounds like a pearl jam song lol
It's John for sure, I'd consider myself a connoisseur of the Mayer arts. It's a really early recording, the earliest to my knowledge
anyone know that little riff after each chord i know the chords i cant get that riff down though
Shit I've been looking everywhere for the chords!! What are they!? I'm sure if you slow it down once you know the chord each riff will become clear
Look into the "CAGED" system of playing chords.. John plays this style a lot.
i think he is using triads and stuff too
Progression is C#-Bm-F#
Can't believe it's John
Hootie is that you?
i thought rob thomas of matchbox 20
quelqu un aurai la tablature de ce morceau sil vous plait jle trouve pas =/
Does anyone know what the chords are in the intro?? Really want to find out but I've only been playing since January and can't work it out by ear:(((
5 4 1. To be more exact: C#, B, F#
tuned half a step down. D, C and G.
is mayer singing?
how do you know?
💜
Singing in a Dave Matthews way..
isnt it clay cook singing?
he met clay at berklee, he attended berklee in the fall of 1997
5:02 haha
so weird man, completely different voice
clearly not the singer, you can hear him transparently singing back up....
