    22 April 2022
    27th April 2020 to 11th February 2022
70.7% in England are estimated to have had COVID-19
The estimated percentage of the community population
(those not in hospitals, care homes or other institutional settings)
    that had COVID-19 was:
70.7% of the population (38.5 million people) in England
56.0% of the population (1.7 million people) in Wales
72.2% of the population (1.3 million people) in Northern Ireland
51.5% of the population (2.7 million people) in Scotland
    27 April 2020 to 11 February 2022 for England
    30 June 2020 to 11 February 2022 for Wales

    22 September 2020 to 11 February 2022 for Scotland
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Infection Survey technical article: Cumulative incidence of the number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19, UK: 22 April 2022
    www.ons.gov.uk...
    www.ons.gov.uk...
Number of people who have had at least one episode of coronavirus
    27 April 2020 until 11 February 2022
    N = 535,116 people in the UK
Aged two years and over and were living in private households
Each participant was regularly tested during the duration of their time in the study.
Swabs were tested using polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
We take all positive and negative tests in the survey and apply statistical modelling techniques to estimate the number of people who have had COVID-19 in the population,
in each of the four UK nations for the duration of the survey.
    Daily prevalence and incidence estimated
    Incidence estimated from prevalence
We do this using both positive and negative swab results
Positivity (prevalence) from "first infection" episodes
a new positive test occurs 120 days or more after an individual's first positive test in the survey,
and their most recent prior test result was negative
    or,
last positive test has been followed by four consecutive negative tests
    Incidence methodology
Duration of testing positive varies from person
Incidence and duration can be used to give prevalence
    Reinfections
We retest the same people, regardless of whether they have symptoms,
we can identify both infections and re-infections,
and our data includes asymptomatic cases.
    Cambridge University modelling
    20th February 2020 to 10th February 2022
    www.mrc-bsu.ca...
Estimates 40.2 million people had COVID-19 in England
30% of all infections are re-infections.
The risk of re-infection was approximately 10 times higher in the period when the Omicron variants were most common, compared with when the Delta variant was most common

Thank you addressing the suicide topic.
My son suicided Feb 22, 2021 even before shots were given out.
It’s been horrifying as he was not suicidal, typically, and because help was not forthcoming during that first year.
The public health people, and nurses and doctors were extolled, but they didn’t address suicidal people.
Of course he was depressed and full of anxiety, for about 6 months prior, but what would have been normal life issues were made many times worse by the lockdowns.
I’ve been suppressed talking about it on most fronts due to condemnation, my own and others.
Public health puts their slant on it all the time.
They don’t “want” to listen to the other sides

People suffered and sadly died when they shouldn't.
Mismanagement within the NHS is a huge problem.
Non medical pencil pushers making poor decisions.
Employing even worse staff for vacancies not really required. Or relevant.
I know someone who was given early retirement. Paid out. Then immediately given his job back with more pay, less hours and a new title.
    This happened lots. Locally.
The important people within the NHS, doctors, nurses, people who actually work hard are pushed to the limits while management increases their pension pots.
    Despicable

Spot on! I was a medical representative and a nurse I dealt with had 3 managers!!! How does that work? Too many chiefs and not enough Indians - has been for ages! Here’s an example of how crazy the NHS is. (I now work for them by the way) A manager has just employed a secretary who can’t touch type, she can only do the one finger jobbie. So, because she can’t get through the workload, they get weekend staff in at an extortionate rate to complete her work! Madness or what.
However, I’ll defend all the staff up the sharp end with every last breath - the doctors, nurses, ancillary staff etc. They work hard, some of whom are under incredible pressure!

At least 3 people were off a week each after getting each of their jabs due to being so ill each time. Out of everyone I know that's had covid, with the exception of 1, ,everyone was vaxxed, - and the singular exceptio is a school teacher that was off a few days and then back to school. Without question it seems to be the vaxxed that are suffering worse with both c-19 infections and jab effects. I will never take it.

Thank you for your optimistic outlook & genuine sincerity, even though we are behind the times here, many decisions being made based on facts that are no longer fact, it is helpful to at least begin to see a light at the end of a very dark tunnel, John. Nothing saddens me more from the way this has been handled globally, than the fact that so many human beings do not understand the important part hope and optimism play in a persons health and well-being. As someone who is still living in a place where we remain controlled by & subjected to mandatory restrictions & vaccinations and very limited access to the actual changing scientific facts, has experienced a lot of undue stress and hardship accordingly on top of the threat of the virus, it really brings home just how it is more important than ever to not believe one is doomed and that the outlook is a morbid one. I have been through similar before in my life, no not on a global scale, on a personal and working level and it is devastating to find myself having to go through this yet again, regardless of who is to blame or not. And no of course false promises and false hope are NOT acceptable, telling people they will be fine, wont get sick, or sicker or die etc, remains unknown for all individual human beings, we are not robots, but THE DATA based on the ever changing FACTS of the SCIENTIFIC BASED EVIDENCE... IS looking more hopeful. Hope and optimism "lifts ones spirits" and is a "phenomenal" aid to a persons resilience and overall general well being and really, in allowing oneself to be & do so, WHAT DOES ANYONE HAVE TO LOSE?????????? No it doesnt mean lose a grip on reality, go in to denial and pretend it cant happen to me, but one can remain present AND be hopeful. Sorry, but if ones outlook is more doomed & hopeless, then obviously the outlook IS more doomed & hopeless, its only logical. And yes, sadly more and more are no longer seeking medical advice for other complaints, because it is all about Covid & vaccinations and the fact that in a mandated society, the medical professionals actually have to give the advice they are told they have to give in relation to Covid & the Vaccines, so patients cannot trust them to give unbiased advice for their personal health at the moment, dont want to go to hospital due to fear of being further belittled or forced to have treatments without their informed consent, etc etc. The "decision makers" have a lot to answer for, especially in relation to ruination of reputation in particular, genuine scientists, medical & health professionals along with a growing mistrust by the general public towards health services in general. The potential worst possible outcomes are but a few as are the best possible outcomes, but there is a whole myriad of potentially better ones between the worst & the best anyway, especially presently, arent there? Perhaps it is good timing for each and every one of us to start changing our minds about our belief in everything human being obliged to conform with the all or nothing extremist points of view? Has there ever been any psychological evidence to support that being a good idea?

I live about 60km outside of Melbourne, 70 years old, living alone for many years so basically a life of isolation for many years. I have two vaccinations, the 2nd at the end of October. My third was scheduled for early April with nearest GP practice which I had to cancel owing to my car breaking down. I was able to make an appointment for a week later and arrived about 5 minutes before the appointment and sent to wait near the room where the covid nurse was working. There was not another single patient waiting. The door to the room was open, the nurse actually nodded that she saw me and continued her work on the computer, About 30 minutes later she left the consulting room. I continued waiting another 20 minutes, so well over an hour before I just walked out.
Due to my isolation I have not even had a cold in more than 5 years and certainly no covid infections. I do know that I am at high risk with underlying health issues and my age. As winter approaches and I do have to go to local shop for food etc. (I find I am the only person wearing a mask as the mandates are gone, so I feel a bit silly) but I know I am vulnerable, live alone with a dog and a cat.
In short isolation has worked for me but I don't have any natural immunity either.

I used to be college professor. I taught computer classes for over 10 years in my 30s and 40s. I was sick constantly - summer or winter. It didn't matter. I was repeatedly exposed to every cold and flu virus that circulated in one of the largest deveopled cities on earth. And I'm GLAD I endured it because my immune system has been CHALLENGED by a lot of respritory viral pathogens. So it's strong, broad spectrum, and recognizes novel viral threats and nuetralizes them without rolling over or freaking out. I don't know if Iv'e been exposed in this pandemic, so I'm actively trying to gain exposure to whatever omicron strain is working it's way through the world right now. But I was also touching the same surfaces as litterally hundreds of other people did daily - computer keyboards and mice - in the classrooms where I taught, and I taught at multiple sites around the city. Either way, my immune system was constantly under assualt for decades when I younger. Now I'm rarely sick. When I do get sick it's generally mild, and only lasts a couple of days. The best thing is to be exposed to a variety of pathogens when you are young and strong and healthy, and to beat them. Then when you get old, stay as healthy as possible. Your immune system will be better able to fight off novel threats if it's been challenged historically and you're in good metabolic health.

There is growing anecdotal evidence to support the assertion that lateral flow tests are becoming unreliable (and/or people aren't using them properly). I caught covid three weeks ago from someone with a compromised immune system who tested religiously; and I have heard accounts from people whose tests came up blank on lateral flow kits but showed a positive result on pcr tests. I tested positive on a lateral flow test, but only because I insisted on taking a throat swab - I suspect some part of this is that people are just swabbing their nose...but I stress that word "some". Covid has dropped off the news and you can't get free pcr tests, let alone lateral flow kits. The government doesn't want you to test or isolate, it doesn't want the test data. It just wants us to catch covid and get on with it quietly.

I wonder how everybody fails to acknowledge that the death rate remains far too high, in some countries even rises despite sinking infections, how comes? Well, since everybody believes the pandemic is over, testing declines. All test centers in my town have closed. In Germany, where I live, we had an Omicron death rate of 1/1000 while the test mandates were still in place. After lifting 5 weeks ago, the „infections“ dropped by 60%, but deaths didn‘t. And if really 70-90% of the population were naturally infected that is very bad news, because it means that the natural immunity is waning as quickly as the vaccination.

The first booster did help, but the second seems to be less effective than that. And there's no data (that I can find) for how long natural immunity may last. The reinfection rate isn't encouraging, though. The drug companies are looking into an Omicron-specific vaccine, but I wish them a great deal of luck in getting it into people's arms.

My sincere condolences to Ron and his family. It may be helpful to others to hear what is actually happening in the NHS (for Non UK people NHS is the UK's National Health Service and when operating at its finest the NHS is the envy of the world. HOWEVER I now refer to it as the No Hope Service - my story follows). Approximately 4 years ago my GP (General Practitioner) noted as I was still rolling up my trousers I needed a Knee replacement but to 'leave it as long as possible because the parts used only last about 15 years). When the knee was constantly locking up and the pain increased I went back to my GP in August 2020. In early September I was diagnosed with Severe Arthritis complete with a 'Large' Baker's cyst (including a piece of bone floating around in the cyst). The orthopedic consultant at my local hospital called me (no face to face due to Covid) and immediately completed the form for knee replacement surgery and said he would drain the cyst and sort the fragment of bone during the operation. At that time the published wait time was 48 weeks. Over time this rose to 73 weeks. When I got to 73 weeks I tried to contact the hospital to see when I would be called in (to be honest I was getting fed up with the exercises recommended for pre knee surgery and did not want quads the size of Arnold Schwarzenegger's ;) ) I could to not get through to the department! I had to go via the PALS (Patient Liaison Service) who told me the actual waiting time to even be 'considered' for a knee operation with my particular consultant was at the time100 weeks!!!!!!! Given that my condition had deteriorated (now pain in both knees) I should ask my GP to write to the department asking them to expedite my case. My GP ordered X rays of both knees plus I answered a survey (which confirmed I needed a knee operation). Not having heard anything for two weeks I tried contacting the x ray department but the phone was constantly off the hook! Back to the PALS service. I was told the following '15 week wait for a routine x ray. 12 weeks if it is URGENT'! I phoned my GP surgery requesting that if the x rays had been put through as routine would my GP consider marking it as urgent (given the situation of the left knee constantly locking up, lack of sleep due to being woken several times a night now from pain in both knees and walking akin to a Penguin I felt reducing the wait by 3 weeks would be helpful). To be honest I was so shocked at the wait for a couple of x rays that would take a total of 6 to 7 minutes I wrote to my Member of Parliament, who wrote to the hospital. Two weeks later I had my x rays. This was just before Easter and I now wait for my GP to get in touch with me. Perhaps Dr John you would consider a vlog on what is happening in different areas of the NHS. I dread to think what is happening to cancer patients. Dr. Campbell says that the high levels of previous infection mean that we have achieved some intermissions in the continuing waves of variant infections that are occurring. However, there is something abnormal about a virus that won't go away & keeps mutating so quickly in order to preserve its existence. The widespread use of ineffective vaccines seems to have been a factor to cause this situation. Let's pray the "normal" all clear attitude we have at this time continues & turns out to be justified.

Once in awhile, the greatest value of data is in the relief it brings, not in the ability to make wise decisions with it. In this case, I am tremendously relieved that we no longer have to guess whether we have finally reached the endemic phase of this virus. Well, at least until the next variant with immune escape appears.

Although Omicron is a de facto sars-cov-3 ,its spike-protein evades all previous immunity,it infects all groups equaly successfully. If it merges with something like MERS we're in TROUBLE.
Hopefully current Omicron infections will prevent serious outcomes.
But nothing will prevent the emerging hysteria.

Hi. I participate in the ONS survey and have done since October 2020. Started blood sampling in May 2021 which showed positive for antibodies ( after 2 vaccinations). June also showed positive although test in early July showed negative. Late July test again showed positive. Next test in September showed negative, although October and through to March were positive ( had third booster vaccination in October ). Latest test in April 2022 was positive, showing a ‘higher level’ of antibodies. The ONS are now differentiating between standard antibodies and higher levels. I don’t believe that I have had COVID, however I support your view that the ONS should differentiate between vaccination antibodies and natural antibodies. I would simply like to know due to my participation in the ONS survey, but I don’t have any means of asking the question. Thank you John for all your good work.
