One of the very best kits I built as a youngster was Revell's 1963 release of a Tempest V in 1/72. I still love that old kit and it is great to see the Tempest finally coming out of the shadows as a modern large scale kit.

Hey Phil, this is the Special Hobby "standard" release (like an Eduard Weekend kit) of this kit - the FIRST release of the Tempest was a "Hi-tech" boxing, and included resin, HGW seatbelts and PE parts.(I know because I own that release)
It also had 5 different schemes from this selection. The round engine piece is from their forthcoming Tempest II kit (And those cylinder heads are all you'll ever see of the engine !) and the blank front radiator parts from the Forthcoming Tempest VI kit. And , yes, the clear parts are for the Fuel tank pylons, which were originally actually made from Clear Plastic..... The PCM Models 1/32 Tempest kit of 2 years ago also had the pylons in clear and included decals for the mounting strapping.

I built this kit and enjoyed building it. The biggest problem I found was the stencil data decals were so soft they were almost unusable. Even using water to set them was too much. But it makes a brilliant model.

Point of order........no one minds flash etc on a reasonably priced kit. It's when you are shelling out 'Tamiya' type money and getting poor fit and flash people will complain. Generally speaking with kits nowadays, you get what you pay for .........unless it's a KH.
Nice review of a great subject, looking forward to building mine.

Frankly I couldn’t see any flash during Flory’s review, so was he looking at it through milk bottle tops? The review seemed a little rushed and generic. Good kit though, just a review focusing on negatives rather than positives, those being it's a Tempest in 1/32 scale and...oh yeah, it's a Tempest in 1/32 scale.

I know everyone is considering this a "short run" kit, but between the "High-Tech" kit the regular kit{which you are reviewing} then the Mk.II "High-Tech" and regular kit I don't or wouldn't. {and you can tell by the round motor plug in the Mk.V, that the Mk.II was coming.} So saying that there is no excuse for not having the Napier engine. For the price SH wants, you've got to compete with Trumpeter, Hasegawa, and Tamiya. Now with all the aftermarket bits and pieces, you going past the price that you're pay for a full detailed kit. The kit does look fantastic, I've got the MkV "High -Tech" but I won't be buying the Mk.II, the lack of a motor is why. Thanks for your review, always enjoy them and your opinions.

No resin, or photo etch with this kit ?... Well that was only available in the limited run special issue edition. At least SH are making it available as aftermarket sets.

Tempest drop tank pylons were clear on the actual aircraft.

I'll give you a fiver if you'd say "DEE-kal" one time on a kit review.
