Before Odasaku died, he told Dazai that nothing will fill the void that he feels, being in the mafia won't stop his s*cidal thoughts, or make him feel any happier. So he told him to be a good person, to help people, at least that will feel a little bit better than being a murderer. For why he is s*cidal , we don't know, people don't need to have a reason for being depressed
