- Chatting Helmets and specifically about the new Nexus helmet from my sponsor Smith.
I also talk about the tried and true Vantage, as well as quick over view of the light weight Code.

I'm currently looking for a new helmet and i'll either buy the mission vantage or nexus what would you recommend me? I'm a fwq rider and do lots of back country.
FYI those removable inserts and zipper are to install helmet speakers ;)
I am looking to upgrade from a bulky giro helmet to the Smith Code or Altus since my smith goggles dont quite fit well with the giro helmet. The concern with code is not having the adjustable vents. Would it run much warmer or colder vs Altus where you can regulate? Also, would you say the upgrade from a Smith Maze to the code is worth the price since the Code has BOA? Thanks! (Not weight is not a huge factor for me between these 3)
Cesar, missed this sorry to leave you hanging, youve prob already made a disision. but my take is.. I love the adjustable vents and use them all the time, the code isnt vented great but it seems to float pretty good in the middle of not being too hot or cold.
Boa, yes the fit adjustment per person but also depending on if you are wearing a buff or balaclava underneath you have some adjust ability.
The Nexus is looking fresh… Mind sharing some of your secret settings for capturing your sick POV shots?
24fps is good, and wide angle, or 360 cam!
Hi Looking at replacing my Vantage size XL(damaged)with a NEXUS. Is it true that the Nexus fits big? I cant find one here in NB, Canada to try on and compare. Your thoughts are appreciated.
I dont know for sure but I do feel that its pretty similar to how the Quantum fit. Both fit me a bit on the big side. Trying one on is always the best.
What do you mean by "dual construction" in your reply? Which one feels better on YOUR head, and in-use on-hill-at-speed? Any difference in adequacy of holding goggles on well and matching the venting? Does the so-called "full Koroyd" interior of Nexus provide any more real protection than Vantage? Which one creates better ventilation? I love the blue I can get on the Nexus but fashion/look way less important than essential function, protection in worst case situations, and ventilation. I ski way faster than most people and almost never fall, but if I fall/hit-something, I want the best protection possible. I'm a large and usually can't fit a medium except occasionally when adjustments are maxed out. Think I might need medium in Nexus over large? Too many questions sorry!! But BIG Thanks for further info!
So the Vantage uses two types of plastic , on the lower half its a little lighter, and can dent a little bit from bumps and drops that happen while not wearing it. Venting and breathability is about the same, The Koryod is pretty cool, helps venting but forced airflow is better in the vantage.
Size IDK I'm kinda between a med. and a small so hard for me to say. goggle retention same. and they should protect pretty similar, maybe the Nexus is bit more bomber over all, but they are close.
Id say if you can get to a shop and try them on it would be best.
How is the sizing on the Nexus compared to the Code? I ride with a Small Code but it’s too small if I put the pads in, I’m dead between S and M
Im not sure exactly but I am similar and use the Med. that way with the pads, and if I wear a balclava or buff underneath , i can just adjust to the extra with the boa.
does the nexus helmet keeps you warm enough not to wear a tuque? Or should i consider having a tuque on my head when taking the measurement for the helmet
I only ever wear a balaclava underneath, when its really cold, and the boa adjustment easily compensates for the change in volume.
I’m looking for a very low profile helmet because I have a small head and small body, and I hate the bobble head feel / look. Any recommendations ? Is the vantage the same exact size as the nexus or is one a bit lower profile ?
Vantage is maybe a bit more lower profile but Id say that the Code, Method, and Summit are all lighter, and more low profile. check those out if thats what your looking for.
Just to confirm, for the Nexus, you can only remove the ear-pads from the inside ear cover "pocket", correct? You cannot really unclip/remove the entire ear-covers from the helmet. Did I understand you right? Thanks for the vid!
That is correct, yo can take out the foam inside the ear pads but the rest of the fabric ear flap is fully connected
Really thinking about upgrading my old vantage to a Nexus, does it feel more low profile than the Vantage or about the same?
It feels about the same fit wise, fits me better than the quantum did, if your looking for more low profile the Summit is a new one as well in the low pro category.
Trying to decide Nexus v Vantage, which is best for aggressive expert skier? What are the issues to think about/compare? Have opinion? Reason I'm upgrading is bad fit between Smith 4DMag goggles and Giro helmet--goggles keep slipping down on nose, very annoying....
I always love the Vantage, its tried and true. The Nexus is maybe a little stronger on the durability scale as far as bumps and scratches, its duel construction is bomber. The fit is a little different on both helmets in shape sizing for me. The Nexus runs a bit big on me, I use Med. Vantage and now prefer a Sm Nexus.

Which Smith goggles are those that you are using?
They are the 4D MAG
Can you say something about the fit with the Oakley flight deck ? Thanks 🙌🏻
Thanks for asking, I'm not sure though as Ive never used those goggles, Smith strives to integrate all there goggles to fit cleanly with the helmets, and I bet a lot of other goggles fit pretty nice too. Id say swing by a shop and give it a go if you can
What are the main advantages of the nexus over the quantum? Is it worth a upgrade if you have a quantum
It’s a little lighter, but pretty similar otherwise really just an update
Does Smith Vantage fit well with Anon goggles? Thanks!
I’m not sure, but I bet well enough.
I wear helmet so I can rock headphones with them. Protection is secondary.
hah yep, 1. keeps goggles on when crashing 2. warm 3. protects from errant sticks 4. music! 5. protection in a fall is my helmet hierarchy !
Impact is not even the reason he wears a helmet 😅😅😅. Reduce the weed intake brother :).
