We need guys like you around to inspire the new generation, i also firmly believe that having something to tinkle with is one of the greatest anti aging formulas there is.
Great project car. If I were going to go for it I would simply fix the suspension, take care of the injectors and keep it on the road. Rolling restoration. Do not take this car apart. Enjoy it every day. Indestructible supercar sedan.
I had one of these way way back - back when - if my memory serves me correctly - the cost when new was double that of a lowly' 450 SEL. Have a safe and nice day all. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.
Very beautiful glad you were able to save it from the San Juan’s and will go to someone who loves it I’m down here in Seattle and love to see someone who also love old Mercedes I went to Stuttgart a few years ago and visited the museum there , hahaha the 6.9 rides like my sl 500 which needs abc suspension
Man. Love that 6.9. But, like you said, swap all the good stuff into a 450sel, add the AMG Penta wheels, and there's a classic sleeper. Just bought an 87 560sl and enjoy your videos. Love working on pre bluetooth cars!
I have a euro 79’ black 6.9 This sells for over $100,000 in Europe if FULLY restored. Approx. $40.000 to 50,000 needed to restore it though. I agree, it’s such a beautiful car and in great shape - aside from the rust and need of engine, trans, and suspension rebuilding. I gotta admit that violet really looks elegant on the W116. Never seen one in this particular color before.
Looks good, metal can be cut out and new pieces fabricated with sheet metal, it can be done at home with regular tools, it would be good for someone who wants to take their time with it.
I was in the Australian Navy and I was based at Great Lakes Naval Training Centre in the 80s. Whilst I was there one of the German sailors doing a course at Great Lakes bought a 450 SEL 6.9 with him, metallic green with beige velour interior, what a magnificent car, I wonder if it still exists?
Have you ever travelled to Morocco? It was the land of 70s & 80s mercedes taxis. The grande taxi. That is fading now, but still plenty of old Mercedes around. The locals can rebuild them from just about anything.
There's an older gentlemen who is a master at repairing these types of vehicles. Jay Leno had him work on his and restore it. I forget the guy's name but he lives in Wisconsin.
Underseal, I totally agree. I just do not understand why so many shops do that to the cars. I think they want it to look good. I prefer to use grease on rusty parts under the car. (copper anti seize paste works well)
The body and paint are so nice, im surprised by rust underneath. I have an undercoated 88 300se that has some rusted spots but not that bad. I converted the headlamps to the bosch glass euro leveling ones.
Sold to an enthusiast in California. Now being fully restored down to the bare chassis. Hope to get pictures someday. At least I saved it from the crusher.
Is there a way to cut suspension from a w116 300sd and weld it in. I have a crash car no rust it could donate its floor and replace the rotted parts with I love the color of that car.
Anything is possible but that would be way too much work. You would be better off finding a clean 450SEL and putting the 6.9 engine, trans and rear end into that car.
If I wasn’t loaded down with tons to do of my own car project, I would instantly buy this. This car would be great to take all the trim, bumpers, lights, engine, and transmission, and body panels, and transplant it onto a clean W116 frame/chassis. If nothing else, the transplant would have a cool story to it.

You got me into these old cars and I’ll always be grateful!
Glad to hear you are not totally "retiring!" You have so much knowledge.
Glad you still are gonna stick around a bit Kent! It’s a beautiful car, I hope who ever buys can restore and enjoy it. Keep up the great work
looks absolute gorgeous with this colour. What a car the 116 was.
Great project car. If I were going to go for it I would simply fix the suspension, take care of the injectors and keep it on the road. Rolling restoration. Do not take this car apart. Enjoy it every day. Indestructible supercar sedan.
I totally agree. Keep it rolling. You start taking it apart for full restoration and you might lose inspiration after a year of looking at it.... :-)
@@Mercedessource Agree. When a project takes too long it transforms into a headache.

I had one of these many years ago, what a car. It's such a shame the underside is so bad. GLWS 👍
I’ve been watching you since I had a w126 as a college freshman. So glad you aren’t retiring.
I sincerely hope somebody takes this on as a project car. It’s too nice to be a parts car although I can see that argument.
thank you for your know-hows... we need more resourceful people like you,,, keep those guys running

My father had one of these in the 80s and loved it. I mean he loved it and also owned a 70s rolls royce corniche, but the 6.9 was his favorite car.
Some of those cylinders are working really well ! Great project
Because of you,i am proud owner of 84. 300d..88HP is not much, but car is solid and goes on highway 120-180km/h,slowly but it gets it
I had a 1979 6.9. Ice blue. Dark blue leather, perfect OREGON car. 1980's. Miss that car. Best road tripper ever.
I have a euro 79’ black 6.9

Great message: Undercoating makes rust worse! Stop “rustproofing” your cars!
Happy to hear you are not retiriting - love this channel and would hate to see you leave UA-cam!
My uncle had one - AMAZING car!
Aw,sweet Jesus! It's amazing.
Man that is a nice looking car! Hello from San Antonio, TEXAS!
The most beautiful S-Class ever made... W116 !!
Kent, you are an inspiration to me. I watch all your videos. Thanks!!!
Great car, worth the effort!
Man that is one beautiful car!
Looks good, metal can be cut out and new pieces fabricated with sheet metal, it can be done at home with regular tools, it would be good for someone who wants to take their time with it.
i have one of those. A 1984 W123 200 petrol. Love it!!!!

Most beautiful S class.
That's the year I was born. Dream car

Would look good next to my 79 SD but she needs some work as well! Good luck Kent
Thank for video
beautiful Mercedes. Interested party here. will be in contact. see you soon 😁
Save her!
One very, very interesting car!
The body and paint are so nice, im surprised by rust underneath.
I have an undercoated 88 300se that has some rusted spots but not that bad.
I converted the headlamps to the bosch glass euro leveling ones.
Would love to have a 6.9, a dream car
THE BEST S CLASS FOREVER !!
Rides like my DS Citroen whrn the suspension fails. Drove mine from Wenatche to Seattle for a repair, a rough ride!
Your conifer hedge looks like more work than the 6.9 Kent !!
Shame, she is too far gone but someone might take her on.
I hope so.
I wish you a good sell
😎👍
What's the final story about the car. Has it been sold, restored, scrapped?
Sold to an enthusiast in California. Now being fully restored down to the bare chassis. Hope to get pictures someday. At least I saved it from the crusher.
Damn. I never even knew these came with a 6.9L !
What mileage did they get ?
People who own 6.9s don't do it for the gas mileage...:-)
Hi Kent, what is the color code of this car please?
hello master Mercedes 116 for more videos you can still please
How much a month?
Wow! From San Juan PR?
No, San Juan Island in Northwest Washington
I'm sad to hear you suggest this as a parts car, give it 10 years and it will be even rarer and definitively worth the cost of a restauration.
calculate the cost of storage and attention for 10 years :-)
Nice car looking for buy one

I need some help with my 560 SEC!
42,176 was a lot of money in 1979
If I bought this I would daily it and junk it when it died.
I would try my best to keep it running but cars are meant to be driven.
You make a good point. That was my initial plan. Coat and stop the rust, fix the brakes and suspension. New tires and drive it!
How much is 6.9?
Did you watch the entire video. It explained where to get the price.
How much? Yes

Man too bad about the underside.
so sad ☹️ stupid roadsalt
Who the hell would buy that as a parts car ?
Probably the devil. He would like the power!
wow that seems cheap
