Nice restoration, details and paint job 👌 👍
Thank you Joe!
Wonderful restoration as always👍👌 ! Not long ago I restored same car ,but with purple color ,superfast wheels and not opening doors.
Thank you. I wanted to do mine purple, but went with the paint I had on hand. Thank you for watching.
Great job Peter 👍🏻
Thank You Mark!
@@PBsRetroRestorations you're welcome 😊
Beautiful restoration. 😊
Thank you very much!
Beautiful restoration, I had that same Matchbox in 1966.
It's a lovely casting, still holds its own nearly 60 years later. Thank you!
I love his casting. I've got one from childhood, in narrow wheel Superfast form, without opening doors, that I've restored but I did it in pearl white.
As always, great work.
Thank you Andrew,
Thanks for the UHF reference!
YES! I SEE YOU ARE AN INDIVIDUAL OF BOTH INTELLIGENCE AND TASTE!
I think I use a reference from that movie at least once a day. Excellent Job!
Excellent restoration, PB. Lovely paint job, nice blue, superb sound FX....the works. My day is complete and it's only twenty to six in the morning.......now, if only i didnt have to go to work 🤔
👏🏻👌🏻👍🏻🦘
Yeah, it really was the complete package wasn’t it? 😆 Sorry about work, think of the money.
Awesome job giving this vintage car a new go at life😎
Thanks Armando, very kind.
Impressive work, thank you 👍👍👍
Take care,
Melbourne, Australia
Thank you very much, thank you for watching. I'm in Brisbane myself, looks like it's been a >bit< cold down there of late.
Fantastic,as a close personal friend, can you lend me some money ? Your noises were awesome too,and the duck ones whilst you made that box 😊
I posted you a cheque last week, has it not arrived yet? Duck noises? I'm gonna have to go and check it now. I worry that I've said something awful and missed it cos I sped it up, and someone will slow it down, reveal how awful I really am and I'll get cancelled. Again. 🤣 Thank You CPF Mark.
Very nice, PB! I grew up in the 1970s and as a kid, was only aware of this model from the 1978 catalog (if I recall the correct year) that listed all the models in the 1-75 range made until that year. I knew of the other mid 1960s American cars including the #31 Lincoln Continental that I was very fortunate to buy new old stock in 1977 or so at a local pharmacy, long after it had been discontinued in the range. That car was loved beyond belief, and the opening trunk / boot was a marvelous feature that gave me visions of an important businessman being met at the airport arrivals by a driver, and all his luggage put into the back of that car. I also had seen a few beater examples of the Impala taxi, but I had never seen the Grand Prix. A friend had told me he had seen one at a garage sale, and as he was quite artistic, drew the front end....I always LOVED the stacked headlamps and split grille on the mid-1960s Pontiacs, and it was painful knowing it was out of my reach! I saw an actual photo in a book on Matchbox by the early 1980s, and finally got my own examples (yes, had to buy multiples!) when opportunity knocked around 1984 and I found a mail order seller. I am glad that it is such a seminal model in the Matchbox range that Matchbox decided to do a tribute model in the Moving Parts series. This is just a great customization. Back in ye olden days, Matchbox was so conservative that this color run ran from 1964 through 1970!!! Heck, today, you have about a month to find the lastest model / color on the pegs and it is no longer at the retailer....just online dealers and scalpers. Thanks for sharing this work!
Thank you. It seemed that so many newsagents and the like had new-old stock for years. This is one I'd never had in any form before, so I had to get it. Like the Lincoln it'd look good with proper detailing, I've done the Lincoln a couple of times it's a favourite too. Thank you for watching and your comment, I enjoy reading other peoples stories.
Direto do Brasil, parabéns pelo seu trabalho com as miniaturas !!!!
Brasil! Muito obrigado pelas amáveis palavras!
Very nice restoration! Excellant color choice!
Thank You Mike! After I get the Anniversary video done I hope to be able to finish the carton creation video I promised you, it's coming, honest.
Well done PB, color choice is spot on.
Thank you Michael 😊
I had that same car as a child and loved it because my pop had a 1966 Grand Prix. Jerk neighbor kid swiped it and my red Jaguar. Thanks for the show love it and now I’m a subscriber!
Thank you John, I had a similar experience of attempted theft as a kid from a 'friend' (except it was my superfast Rover 3500) I'm glad you liked the video and thank you very much for subscribing, hope you like my other videos as well.
Absolutely beautiful work Pete
Thank you Michael!
Top restoration Pete looks amazing well done 👍
Thank You Adrian!
Beautiful work 🎉💯👍☕
Thanks Jan!
Very nice! love the blue on it. and the matching box makes a great set!
Thank You Paul, I'm getting better at making the boxes fit together better.
Best sound effects ever captured on video! Grand Prix looks sharp in this shade of blue!!!
Yes I'm not sure why Hollywood haven't come calling for my skills yet. Must have lost my phone number. Thank you very much!
shes gorgeous the blue and purple look better than the red for sure. havent seen the new ones that i know of.
Thanks Neil, the new ones came out a while ago, I >think< they just did another one in white, not sure.
Great choice of colour.
Thank you Marty, I’m sure your suit would have preferred white though 😝 thank you for watching!
Yay, MB Regular Wheels ! 💕
Great job Pete.
Just for you Paul, honest. Hope you're not wobbly at the moment.
The Blue is 🔥🔥🔥 Well done
Thank you, I was gonna do purple but I’m glad I did the blue now.
Fantastic car!!! I have two in my Hot Wheels and Matchbox collection
Thank you very much. It's the only one I've ever had and I haven't had it for very long.
loved it
fantastic restoration
Awesome sense of humor
liked and subscribed
Thank you! I try and make them a bit of fun, that really pleases me to hear that. Appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment.
Awesome build P.B.😁
Thank you very much!
LoL love the sound effects 😂😂😂😂❤
Thank You, when I used them all the time I got some polarising opinions about them. A guy told me he loved my videos, but had to mute them because they scared his cat.
Excellent restoration Peter, great colour choice, those ultra sonic units do make an annoying noise .all the best Martin
My iPhone has picked it up before as a hum, but this time (and I don’t know why) it REALLY got on a frequency and I had to mute it 🤷♂️ thank you!
Next to the Opel Diplomat this is one of my favorites in the Lesney series. Nicely done PB. Cheers JV
Ooooh then strap yourself in JV >hint, hint< 😉 Thank you!
Nice one PB 👍
Thank you Andy!
Excellent restoration on a great old casting!
Thanks Ron, I think it's much nicer than the new versions.
So awesome restoration work bro
Thank you!
That restoration looks fantastic! However, I would have used a Molotow chrome pen for the chrome parts. It looks just like real chrome!
Thank you very much. I LOVE Molotow chrome, it's the best. I use the refills in my airbrush especially for doing Corgi sandwich chassis and old Ertl bases, you cannot beat it. I just feel for the 'factory' look on these old ones, it's too shiny sometimes.
Your dremell sound effect sounded like Hendrix doing God save the King.
lol, thanks David, I'd never seen my self as a Dremel Rock God but I do now.
Great job on the restoration Pete. Just ran across your channel and thoroughly enjoyed the video. I also have a red GP just like the one you restored and was thinking about restoring mine also, while watching your video. I still have many of my Matchbox cars from the sixties and think that it would be fun to restore them, although I don’t think I would have the patience like you to do them. Again, it was fun watching and I subscribed. PS, if you have the white 65 Mustang fastback to restore, which I also have, I would love to see you do that one.
Thank you Randy! It is fun, it's really good to have a hobby, helps me mentally to have have something to drift off into. You should absolutely have a go at it, and as for paitence, it helps but there's no rush, I do them in my own time (generally) That's why I try to show everything that goes wrong as well as right to encourage others to try the hobby and show it doesn't always work out first time but you can always have another go. I've done the Lesney 65 Mustang a couple of times (I'll try and post links, not sure if you can do that in comments) but if they don't work check my other videos, the one I do to factory is the 'Ford Versus Ferrari' video, and one I do a Code 3 to is the 'Maleny Mustang Makeover' video. I'm so happy to hear you thought my video was fun, that's what I aim for most of all, thank you for your considered feedback and thank you for subscribing!

aw, you scored a grong pree with the door steps still intact... many have them broken, even missing. must be some problem with casting.
anyway, love the blue. I once did one in Revell french blue, worked too. :) I'm not sure if these GPs had that much chrome trim to begin with. sometimes less is more.
and the regular wheels all stood so low, even with intact springs. real lowriders there. :) makes them look sleek.
I guess the pressure of the spring levering on the wafer thin pillars kills them. I find the Javelin is the worst. Thank you!
Great job on the sound effects, lol. Car came out a treat. I heard Miss Wilson has been DM you mate Captain Australia, hounding him for a date. Lol 😂. You got me with the orange quote, is it Clockwork Orange? Cheers Graham
Thanks Graham. Miss Wilson can DM my legal team. Speaking of Captain Australia, and being that you're his No.1 (and only) fan, Thursday's Anniversary Video should be interesting 😉
@@PBsRetroRestorations funny you just say that I'm his only fan. I I was watching Martin's dare video the other day. Someone in the comments mentioned Captain Australia. It was his Corvette restore for your channel. Hopefully I have hobby room sert up and Enter your competition next year.
Thought I had seen it all, but restoration of Matchbox cars? I should have kept my car collection 🙂
I know, I lost / gave away so many cars that I’d love to have back to restore now. Thanks for watching!
A 2 PB video week. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Dreams do come true Scott. Thank you!

Kenny! Nice to see you back my man, how have you been?
Quote from Dumb and Dumber me thinks.
Nice try, but no it was the Weird Al movie ‘UHF’ or ‘The Vidiot from UHF’ as it was known in Australia for some reason.
The grand prix is not identical to lesaber but it's close. Did they make a 69 lesaber? My brother had as his first car a 69 lesaber, and I'd love a toy version of it. It would be a repaint to make it look like my late brothers actual real car.
Brothers car was silvery grey wth fake leather roof. And he drew his signature 4 pad" bear paw print" on both right and left front hood ends. ( It looks like the slightly squashed Micky mouse hoops but three small ovals on top instead of two. And the big oval on the bottom. No claws.)
His nick name was yogi bear. And we called his car the bearmobile. Unofficially it was also called Cindy. As in Cindy bear.
The interior of my brother's car was black leather based. Black bucket seats, black backseat. Red shag rug under the back window camouflaging speakers for his custom stereo setup. He had a cassette deck installed aftermarket. In a really good sound system. At the time he was working for Rochester breaking clutch and as it turns out the replacement brake shoes he bought for it he'd made himself. He bought from The company store only to be shocked to find his own Maker's Mark on them. That car lasted the good 5-10 years, he drove it all the way from New York to Missouri and back and all the way to Texas. It had excellent gas fuel mileage as well.
I had wanted one of those for a while but now that my brother has just passed this last December, I really want a model of that car. It would really be nice as a way to remember him.
Best if I can mod it or make it myself.
Do I get to drink from the fire hose?
Only if you find the marble in the oatmeal.
Wow peter very run down a lot of work to restore that one I don't know about your sound a effect th
But a very good finish mate well done
Lol Thanks Garry. My sound effects are a bit of a throwback to my early videos. I used to play my iTunes in the background while working on cars, but of course when I uploaded them UA-cam'd ping me for copyright, so I had to mute them and put royalty free music. Which no one liked. So I started doing my own sound effects, and desperate times called for them in this one, I know they're awful! Thank you very much for an honest opinion!
All good peter your video are great to watch mate I don't think I can restore the car in the way you get them have a great weekend to you and your family take care
First, you talk too much, then you don't put the miniature in its original color, so it loses its initial value.
Yeah, I know and I often tell myself that and make a video where I don't talk at all and people don't like that either. Can't win 🙂 And as for original colours, I figure the second I pull it apart any historical or monetary value has been lost anyway so sometimes I like to have a bit of fun with colours. Appreciate your honest feedback and thank you for giving the video a go, even if it wasn't to your tastes.
