True but fun fact this was the first episode, so he was doubting his abilities the entire time. So when Monk proves he still has it, I think the captain was more proud than usual
It's a series staple for sure. Over time just like everyone the Captain WANTS Monk to succeed, not to solve a case, but because he knows Monk's work was one of the few things that made Monk who he was.
I loved this show, and I agree 100% about the Captain. Which makes it so surreal that every time I see him, all I can think of is that he was Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs... "Put the lotion in the basket!!!!" 😸
I love how as soon as he gets going with what he's confident about, he's completely calm. No OCD, phobias, etc. Just a detective who knows what he's doing.
That's what I noticed in this clip as well. And it's something that Monk always does. When he first starts out with his theory he rambles and stutters a bit as if is shy and unsure. But the moment he gets going or is challenged his voice and attitude change very quickly and he is a confident man with no doubts.
I love how he's absolutely savage when confronting anyone with the truth or has cornered the prep. My favorite so far (I am finally watching the series from Season 1 first the first time through) is his final confrontation with the killer in "Mr. Monk and Dale the Whale" Absolutely savage!!!
That’s why I was annoyed when the lady who played Angela in the Office questioned why her roommate wasn’t willing to let a CEO die for a share of the stock when his company shut down. Just like Ronstadt and the girl that Sykes killed, they had a proper conscience.

More then likely watched a trailer, which led to some music, then led to will Smith, will Smith starred in MiB which has Tony in it. Which led to monk.
This episode has one of my favorite lines, "do you lay awake at night and think of ways to ruin my day?" "No ma'am, I lay awake at night and try not think about anything at all."
Monk, Psych, The Mentalist, House M.D These are the shows that are the most relaxing shows to watch for me. I don't know what's so satisfying about them, but when I'm done with work and just want to switch off, these shows are the best.
I'm with you on the 1st 3, and I'd replace the last with Burn Notice. I love Hugh Laurie in the Jeeves and Wooster (made for TV series, based on the books, set in the roaring 20s) though ! Very much so. My husband met him, actually, too.. a few years ago. He worked as a diesel tech ( semi truck mechanic) for the TA Center his bus was apparently stopping at, and my hubby happened to be in the gas station part to get a coffee. Realized who he was as all the convenience store attendants were whispering about "House" etc. . My husband ends up right next to him, so says Hi and mentions that "my old lady likes Jeeves and Wooster" and Hugh kinda laughs and says " Man, that brings back memories" . My husband looks a bit older than his 40 years at the time, w his very greying hair and just how people tend to guess his age tho he doesn't look wrinkled or haggard.. . So, here I am, annoyed that he, looking possibly none too young, chose to say "old lady" , and that Hugh, being British, may not know how many country folk use that term to mean wife or GF of any age... and since that show is older .. he won't know how young I am and yet know, love and understand the lingo on the show ( J&W) ! Sounds like a non-issue & it may be, I admit, but it matters to me that he knows younger folk like it and understand it ! I AM older than my hubby tho, btw 😁, was 40-ish at the time, he was 39.
Monk was a childhood show of mine. Would always watch this with my grandparents and loved Mr. Monk with a passion. Looks like I’m gonna watch it again. 👍
Loved this scene way back when, and now I'm also noticing how beautiful the sounds are. Thew rain, traffic, lack of background music...so quiet for a scene on TV or in film!
Dunno how this showed up as recommended but I love me some Monk. Wish the show coulda went on at least a couple more seasons. One of the few shows I don't mind rewatching episodes over and over.
Ah yea my yearly monk suggestions from UA-cam. Brilliant show that lived a brilliant life. Short but to the point and didn’t keep dragging on like others from its age.
A lot of shows in this genre have a detective with some sort of personality or style quirk; so much so that I had grown tired of them. Monk was a show that seemed to have a fresh, different character that made it interesting again.
I think my favorite parts of this scene are the various cutaways to Stottlemeyer, and the look on his face that just says, "He's got it. That sonofabitch has got it."
I've come back to this clip a few times and it strikes me now just how well they had Randy and Stottlemeyer play themselves early on in the series and how they developed those relationships over the course of the show Randy is irritated here, Monk let the shooter get away and he's pissed off - but by the end of the series Randy gets as invested in both Monk's... quirks as he does Monk's fine deductions, but at this point in the series he hasn't seen enough to back it up. Leland might be a bit irked, but more concerned - is his friend up to snuff or does he really need a LOT more help? But as soon as Monk drops the "You were dipping into the war chest again" you can see this flash of "That's the Monk I know", especially with the following nervous laugh. At that point Leland is 100% convinced and is just waiting to have enough evidence to work off of in court.
You always know he's going to solve the crime, he always sees something no one else sees. I read that Monk and his sidekick were basically based on Sherlock Holmes and Watson. The best part is when he solves the crime, the guilty person always has that look on their face.
For some reason I’ve never forgotten the reveal when the criminal realizes the sound was just an echo he couldn’t have pinpointed. Thanks UA-cam algorithm for reacquainting me with this long lost show.
Until he did the evil voice I would hate to be going to court with this evidence. 'No you see your honour there were balloons in the way and the city centre is too echo-y for him to have been able to... no your honour we din't have any physical evidence but we had my assistant shoot and he couldn't... but he *pointed!*
I always love these scenes Monk and Law and Order Criminal Intent are the best at breaking the suspect down into spilling the beans. The thing is, most of the time if they kept their mouth shut, dramatic interrogation or not, no court really has enough to convict them on. Oh well.
Totally! Often the evidence is not enough to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Even if they prove he was stealing money and had motive, without evidence beyond him pointing isn't enough. He could have just said he was confused and saw a flash of light or something. All he had to do is not say a word and demand a lawyer. That's the one thing you learn about these shows. Unless you have something that establishes your innocence, STFU.
In most of these situations in shows like this, it's the confession that the inspector is really going for. Hence the Build up, speculations accusations etc. It's psychological Warfare to make the suspect crack and confess. Poirot is notorious for this. Of course, they rarely show the legal battles afterwards so the usefulness of a confession extracted under these circumstances might be contested if he gets a clever enough lawyer.
You know you have a problem when you can recognise the episode and a majority of the script just by the title of the video and/or the thumbnail. I'm a literal Marcie Maven and I have no regrets.
So glad Buffalo Bill survived his gunshot wounds and turned his life around by becoming an honest cop. A police captain, no less. Amazing and inspirational.
@@shesosweet2781 It's a show that's hard to convey what's great about it by describing what it's about. It's about a divorcing woman who gets in to comedy in the 1950s, but it's hilarious, well written, phenomenally acted, and very well produced. If you're a fan of Tony Schalub (plays the father of the comedian), well worth giving it a shot.
It would have been more then enough to get a search warrant and find proof that he was swindling money and had paid the killer. Search warrants don't need proof, just probable cause. Money leaves very obvious trails, the only reason we can't easely identify anyone guilty of fraud in the world is because its illegal to look into it without a search warrant. Anyway, he was done even without the confession.
Circumstantial is enough if you don't have a plausible explanation for it. He should have saved his claim that he saw/heard the shooter for court where it would be harder to demonstrate the lie.
Meh, it's usually pretty dumb plotlines. If you don't think the plot twist that the guy instantly pointed to the sniper right after the shot was made, which not only put the spotlight onto himself but also made it harder for his own hired assassin to get away is a bit convoluted, then I don't know what to tell you.
How did this get into my recommendations?

Oh he wouldn’t survive. Too much pollution in too many intersections when I visited the area. He’d probably want to wear a face mask all day.
Monk retired to Newton, Kansas.
Why did the algorithm reccomend me Monk. Not mad at it, but what did I watch to trigger this
Your porn of choice did it. Google knows what you did. Google sees all. Thats why theres two cameras and a permanent hot mic. So what is everyone into and we can narrow this down?
Christopher Wilson lmao you’re crazy asf
Perhaps Sherlock or elementary
More then likely watched a trailer, which led to some music, then led to will Smith, will Smith starred in MiB which has Tony in it. Which led to monk.
Luke Oaks ok boomer
It's always the guy with the great hair.
@Mark Kennedy maybe the writers always had bad experiences with well groomed men ' A-HA I Will make you the villain to get even!!! MU HA HA HA!

@@mariammoreden3999 Gotcha! I'm sure that was me. Sorry to bother you, just trying to spread the Monk love! Hahaha

This is the clip that convinced me to watch Monk. About 7 months later and I've binged the entire series. Easily one of my favorites
I think I might be about to get on that train
This episode has one of my favorite lines, "do you lay awake at night and think of ways to ruin my day?" "No ma'am, I lay awake at night and try not think about anything at all."
Monk, Psych, The Mentalist, House M.D
These are the shows that are the most relaxing shows to watch for me.
Me: why is this is in my recommendation for no reason?
Also me: aight, let's binge Monk all over again
This channel: ladies and gentlemen, we got him
Damn algorithms, it thinks it knows us.
Exactly right. About to go start bingeing from season one all over again! 😂
Enough with the MONK on my recommendations! I went on the auction site and bought the whole series, all eight seasons.
Right?!
I'm 5 episodes from finishing the show... I don't know how I'm gonna get over not having new episodes of Monk...
Monk was a childhood show of mine. Would always watch this with my grandparents and loved Mr. Monk with a passion.
Looks like I’m gonna watch it again. 👍
Krombopulos Michael: _"Here I go [watching], again!"_
Monk....one of the greatest shows ever. Wish they would bring it back
Still watches Mr monk yearly. Very great acting and a very great detective
Monk coming up was so random. I haven’t watched this show or any clips in years.
This account was made in 2019
She had a little something we like to call... Tegridy.
Sadly, she forgot to bring a towel

Me: has all seasons of monk on DVD
Also me: "let's watch monk in UA-cam"
Well you get to see comments from other people. That is why I clicked on it. I just watched this episode last night, like 14 hours ago.
Heckle, this is Jeckle. 😂😂
Just recently started watching this,as it started in METV a few weeks back.
I was hooked before the first commercial break. This show is great
Loved this scene way back when, and now I'm also noticing how beautiful the sounds are. Thew rain, traffic, lack of background music...so quiet for a scene on TV or in film!
Dunno how this showed up as recommended but I love me some Monk. Wish the show coulda went on at least a couple more seasons. One of the few shows I don't mind rewatching episodes over and over.
"Yes, you do. Yes, you do." "Thanks, Captain."
Ah yea my yearly monk suggestions from UA-cam. Brilliant show that lived a brilliant life. Short but to the point and didn’t keep dragging on like others from its age.
This guy was so deserving of the Emmy he won. One of my favorite crime dramas.
i still remember when they referenced his win on Scrubs, after his show beat theirs 😂
This is so satisfying to watch and I've never seen an episode of Monk before
John Nino best thing ever
He is a brilliant actor, one of the best. The series is exceptional in my opinion, highly recommend.
he is basically Sherlock Holmes with extreme OCD and phobias
Get to binging, my friend. Just like myself, you won't regret it.
Never? Wow... Welcome to great TV. Get to binging.
I love that final "...Sharona?" like if it was her ahahah
It was her... the guy confessed it's killing time.
@@wagnerthomas6780 She has one hell of a aim when she can hit someone from this distance with a revolver.
@@cavareenvius7886 That's why she took her time before shooting, maybe even put a laser on it and a scope to see it.
@@wagnerthomas6780 Laser and scope doesn't help if your weapon has a several meter wide bullet spread. She had to *not aim* at him to hit him.
@@cavareenvius7886 Maybe she modified the barrel beforehand to stabilize the bullet. Or used different shell type?
Adrian Monk is one of my favorite detectives. This is one of the reasons why I love him.
Never even heard of monk. Guess I have something to binge while in lockdown.
It’s a great show, I highly recommend.
2:24 -- The politician's hell: being surrounded by honest people.
I truly miss this show. From beginning to end, it was simply amazing.
I hated the ending because... I wanted it to continue.
I've come back to this clip a few times and it strikes me now just how well they had Randy and Stottlemeyer play themselves early on in the series and how they developed those relationships over the course of the show
Randy is irritated here, Monk let the shooter get away and he's pissed off - but by the end of the series Randy gets as invested in both Monk's... quirks as he does Monk's fine deductions, but at this point in the series he hasn't seen enough to back it up.
Leland might be a bit irked, but more concerned - is his friend up to snuff or does he really need a LOT more help? But as soon as Monk drops the "You were dipping into the war chest again" you can see this flash of "That's the Monk I know", especially with the following nervous laugh. At that point Leland is 100% convinced and is just waiting to have enough evidence to work off of in court.
at 5:10...the captain is so happy that Monk got his groove back.
You always know he's going to solve the crime, he always sees something no one else sees. I read that Monk and his sidekick were basically based on Sherlock Holmes and Watson. The best part is when he solves the crime, the guilty person always has that look on their face.
MONK is a classic. I would like to see it again after 10 years.
The Heckle & Jeckle part always crack me up...
🤣
And the whole pilot was just phenomenal.
So much nostalgia...
The 1st time he met Natalie, I think episode 1 of season 3, is one of my faves too. The fire extinguisher scene :) !
2019 UA-cam.... iiiii bet he wants some monk
Το be fair the channel is also relatively new
I've never even HEARD of this show! :D
Why are monk videos trending all of the sudden and why am I ABSOLUTELY down for it? Idk but I’m gonna go rewatch...
For some reason I’ve never forgotten the reveal when the criminal realizes the sound was just an echo he couldn’t have pinpointed. Thanks UA-cam algorithm for reacquainting me with this long lost show.
Monk: She had a little thing called integrity
*Shows the wife*
Me: was that intentional or were they going for a reaction shot
He even uses the evil voice. Classic detective work.
Is... is this a Mitchell and Webb reference?
Until he did the evil voice I would hate to be going to court with this evidence.
'No you see your honour there were balloons in the way and the city centre is too echo-y for him to have been able to... no your honour we din't have any physical evidence but we had my assistant shoot and he couldn't... but he *pointed!*

That was over a year ago!
Never watched the show before, but now I will. Thanks recommendations
Gavin Lloyd: [Gets Shot]
Randy Newman: "It's a Jungle out there... "
When they changed it from just the music to the actual song I got sad and then it grew on me lol
umm it's a jungle out there is from season 2 to season 8 not season 1

I love how despite the mess up Leland was impressed and in awe of how great Monk was.
I loved Monk's detection style. Always brilliant and kept you guessing right to the last minute.
This clip being in my recommended a year ago is what turned me onto Monk
Stottlemeyer looked so proud of Monk...like he knows that in the end Monk is gonna solve it but he still looks super proud
The box set is hilarious. One of the images is flipped.
i've seen that picture. maddening
This show is awesome! My prayers go out to Tony, Ted, Jason, Bitty, and Traylor. (The cast)
So glad thsi ended up in my recommendations... I had actually forgot how good this show was!
I should have watched more of “New Columbo”
This was a great show... the series arc with Monk's wife was a great story line.. gave the series some heart.
I love MONK so much I went out and bought the entire box set of every episode every season.❤💗💓💕💖💞💋
I like the way captain stottlemyer smiles at Adrian at 5:11 he's thinking "he's still got it"
One of the greatest shows ever made.
Great TV. I've never watched a minute of this show, but I will now.
The fact that his only evidence was him pointing means literally nothing and wouldn’t be nearly enough to convict
The confession, combined with motive, means, and opportunity, would be more than enough to convict
I was just about to write this. All he had to do was keep his mouth closed.
A friend of mine who was head of the state crime lab put it best: There is no such thing as a criminal mastermind.
When the captain told him he had to stay, it could be construed as illegal detainment.
You know you have a problem when you can recognise the episode and a majority of the script just by the title of the video and/or the thumbnail. I'm a literal Marcie Maven and I have no regrets.
This was my first Monk recommendations, thank you algorithm!
So glad Buffalo Bill survived his gunshot wounds and turned his life around by becoming an honest cop. A police captain, no less. Amazing and inspirational.
You mean Minion from Spy Kids?
"Sniff" I miss Monk. What's Tony Schalub been up to lately?
He is in the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It's a TV show
Nalini Rajeev and his acting in it is phenomenal😁 watch it on amazon prime video
@@batwing4297 what's it about, if you don't mind?
She So Sweet follows the journey of a divorced comedian. Its quite entertaining and not very dramatic, just overall a fun tv show to watch
Talk about circumstantial evidence! But how convenient that he confessed at the end! LOL!
I miss this show. Aged like wine
I'm surprised this popped up in my recommended. But then again, I've watched the entire series multiple times and miss this show.
Interesting to see just as many people surprised to have been recommended this video and commented as such
Everyone noticing Monk recommendations.
Also everyone: not mad at it.
I miss this show. Thank goodness for DVDs
it's on Heroes and icons all day on Thursdays from 10-7.

This is one of the best detective shows and it's sooooo underrated
I watch Monk endlessly. It's so clever without all the gratuitous violence and grandstanding of the usual detective show.
USA network had so many underrated shows
Criminals must be having a field day right now with Monk refusing to leave his apartment during a pandemic.
I love how it's blatantly just lightning
