This close to the election in Canada you wouldn't be campaigning yet, the US has way too long of a election cycle.

Of course they are. They just use different rules to get around the financial rules. Ever since we moved to fixed election dates, the governments have been in perpetual campaign mode. They just ramp it up to insane levels for the 5-6 weeks after the writ is dropped.

Intimate partner violence has increased worldwide since the start of the pandemic. Canada doesn't have more of an issue than any other country but the world does have an issue right now that needs a light on it. I think that tensions got high in some families when they were cloistered away together for a couple of years without relief and although the pandemic restrictions lifted the negative effect that it had on some relationships didn't magically go away. Just my suspicion.

You have to also take into consideration the importation into Canada of millions of newcomers in recent years.. many of whom are coming from different cultures that in some cases have disproportionately more subjugatory attitudes towards women. For example, the Shafia family tragedy in Kingston, Ontario about 15 years ago. Unfortunately, this is a taboo subject that many people don't want to face. Many Canadians would prefer to believe that people are people and importing hundreds of thousands of people with different cultural norms will have no deleterious consequences. They think that the media and advertising campaigns to enlighten the public will help to reduce the rise in these tragedies. If only it were that simple. If anything, the statistics are likely going to rise for many years to come. 😢

@@MK-fc2hn I agree with you, however, nothing should be taboo and the media in my opinion is in great part responsible for the perpetuation of racism and hate.
All the media does is vilify one group of people for their own personal ideology while ignoring the problems of society and turn people against each other.
All this is compounded by not being able to talk about real, serious issues and concerns in society and marginalizing these people to the point of making the rest of society hate them and not think there issues matter.
This in turn makes more and more people angry and bitter until all those pent up feelings and rage come forth in tragic ways.
Then the media uses these events to further divide people and make other angrier on both sides.
Now we are more divided about everything as ever and still the circus keeps performing the same tricks.

The global computer outage was not a Microsoft update. It had nothing to do with Microsoft. It was a Cloudstrike update. Cloudstrike is a Cyber Security platform (antivirus, anti-malware, firewall etc) than plenty of businesses used. The way it integrates into Microsoft Windows caused computers to just seize due to the software drivers becoming corrupt due to the "bad" update to the Cloudstrike software.

    • @kevinL5425
      @kevinL5425 Місяць тому

Cloudstrike is a malware detection system that can analyze operating system activity and detect and stop suspicious behaviour. It is used by large companies to improve their security, working with things like the corporate VPN, etc.
It uses an officially signed “essential” core device driver that runs in the windows Kernel so it can analyze all system activity. This device driver can download updated configuration files. What happened is one of the downloaded configuration files was corrupted (all zeros instead of what should have been there). The device driver encountered an error when it tried to install the corrupted update. Instead of gracefully handling the problem, the driver instead caused a Kernel Panic error in the Windows Kernel (telling it one of the required device drivers for Windows was no longer working) which caused the machines to blue screen.
The solution was relatively simple. Boot the computer in “safe mode” (which would not load the device driver), go to a specific directory, then remove the offending update file so Cloudstrike wouldn’t try to install it. Then reboot the computer. With the update file no longer there, everything would work fine.
Unfortunately this had to be done at the machine for every affected machine. Cloudstrike couldn’t fix the problems remotely with a new update because their software would still see the old problem update and try to install it before installing the later update.
So Cloudstrike apparently caused this two ways: by releasing a corrupted update file, and by not gracefully recovering from errors encountered when trying to install the corrupted update file.

It's his portfolio given to him by the Premier. He is an elected member of the provincial legislature. He has a portfolio as a member of cabinet, comprised of a subset of elected members belonging to the governing party. Cabinet shuffles are when the Premier switches folks and portfolios around. This also happens at the federal level. The Justice Minister does not have to be a lawyer and does not have any role in the courts. He oversees judicial policy.

Toronto is basically a big bowl. When it rains, the closer you are to the lake, the more likely you are to experience flooding. The Don Valley Parkway down near Dundas and Gerrard (the Don Flats) is very close to the edge of the Don River, that feeds into Lake Ontario. The DVP frequently floods because of this. On this one day we got more rain in 3 hours than we normally see for the month of July. It's been 11 years since we saw that much rain in a single day. I can't find any decent statistics on how frequently the DVP floods, but we usually worry about ice jams causing flooding on the DVP in the spring.

Beautiful, great place to raise kids even as a single person
But the kids had tons of opportunities to visit places through the school projects
They were also introduced to a wide variety of culture in their classroom from other children
    And yes
We do have all those ecosystems available to us in our backyard
    BTW
The huge redwood trees you were talking about are legally protected by the government of BC
So I think that you would enjoy yourself here
The exchange rate is great even though everything in BC is huge
    Including the prices for everything
Hope to hear from you after your holiday with us

I think the Buy American policies, and that NATO members should pay their fair share, are what they're saying will have the most effect on Canada. Massive thunderstorms are pretty common in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), and there's a number of deep ravines. If you're a poor bastard who has a house in a low lying area, you're going to get flooded. The lower Don Valley flooding is also common and happened just a few years ago (cars and a train stuck). There's a flood water bypass tunnel they're building to prevent that in future, but it isn't open yet.

Domestic abuse: This is a major issue in Canada, but epidemic is a pretty drastic word to use. WIth that said, there is an issue with it that has to be dealt with. The politician wasn't neccessarily wrong, but he could have been more tactful about it, and it was quite insensitive to do it on the anniversary of such a terrible event. Right or wrong, that was inappropriate and shows a lack of empathy to say it on the day he did.

Just so you know - GTA - stands for "Greater Toronto Area". It is Toronto & surrounding cities & suburbs that are heavily inter-related through commuters & manufacturers also.
News that is released is OFTEN of the negative kind as they feel it gets more attention (which is a shame as they don't realise how it affects people over time emotionally/psychologically.) They DO try to throw in the ODD good story though, but don't be surprised if the news has a drooping effect on your spirits. There IS more in life happening than just the bad things that get reported, so keep that in mind & you won't feel so bad.
While you aren't really delving into any news story at all (most of the details ARE laid out in those articles you scroll over) - you are at least catching a number of headlines & the odd picture. It DOES give you a vague idea of what is happening here & that is A LOT MORE than MOST Americans have.
Take care Tyler & have a good day.

Our leadership increased military spending by quite a bit, when they originally took over years ago. We were behind in our NATO spending, and have increased our budget in order to appease our allies who had not.
We are absolutely expecting that we may be pulled into a war under article 5 of NATO. But it is not what we want.

Something you need to know about Canada. There are two types of people here. The indigenous people who rely completely on the government to survive, and everybody else who pay taxes and contribute to society. The indigenous people who don't contribute are the ones that mostly fill our prisons 46% even though they amount to only 5% of the population. Almost all the articles you read in Canada calling for some kind of change due to poor living standards or domestic violence etc. are almost always the indigenous population wanting more money and more social programs to help their people. Huge amounts of money and aid go to the indigenous population, but once the money hits the chiefs hands there is zero transparency. It is easy to filter those articles by a few key words, such as indigenous and by the last name of the person in the article.

50 and 100 yr floods are about yrly now depending where you are.
floodings have increased over the yrs. harrow a small town in sw ontario ppl had feet of water in their yards with basements completely flooded.
certain areas of Toronto flood every yr.. the DVP highway and surrounding areas... other cities also got flooded as well... London etc etc. 7 ft in their basements etc. One of our friends lost a lot in her place when the basement completely flooded.
a couple of yrs ago we flooded bc the power went off and the ground was over saturated the water sump pump couldn't keep up- the water was clear.. not like the ones in overland flooding/ toilets.
Toronto had bylaws for new buildings about a decade ago to have a portion be green roofs... but a lot more needs to be done to control run off. permeable surfaces, green roofs, rain gardens, rain barrels, native plants and grasses ( not traditional turf grass) etc.
My hometown said they were going to charge for non permeable surfaces : houses, sheds and driveways.
I've noticed over the yrs often when we get rain its not a sprinkle ... its a torrential downpour for a couple of hrs.
we are at low risk for floods despite being close to water. we are changing as much turf grass to stepables and gardens, and I want to install a rain garden. bigger rain barrels.
