Very late reply, but in this portrayal of Alien Planet they had no idea what life, if any, could exist on the planet. Suppose that the Eosapiens were already comparable to modern human civilization, this message's meaning would be much clearer. Given that there's no ability for human intervention to fix or change anything, if you're going to assume intelligent life may be discovered on an unmanned mission and you have only one message you can send, then assume the best in that the species is sufficiently advanced enough to understand the meaning of that message. I'd go so far as to say that's exactly the point of this scene; the Eosapiens are clearly intelligent enough to conceptualize and are curious about the images displayed, but they can't make the connection between this strange, floating "creature", the message it displays, and the fact that both are from another intelligent species from another world attempting to make contact.

What makes this really terrifying is we don't even know why the Eosapiens reacted so aggressively to the camera disks being deployed. They were curious and seemingly fine with Ike's presence, until that camera disk was launched. Do the camera disks resemble something the Eosapiens fear? Is it the sound they make, or the sudden movement? It could literally be for any reason because the Eosapiens have human-like intelligence. That uncertainty is what makes it all the more mysterious.
Then again why did they destroy Leo without warning when he never launched a camera disk He did launch one after they initially attacked him which is why they finished Leo off, but the first time they attacked Leo was totally unprovoked…… just wondering why
When the duo are testing their equipment, we do see what it looks like from the Eosapiens' perspective. It looks like a glowing blue trail that moves at high speeds. Considering the Skewer is the most dangerous predator on the planet, they could have assumed the disk would be just as deadly at those speeds.

"It just looked at things for a time before moving on." "Then we will do the same. No doubt it will find its companion," Chief warned. "And though it may be cowardly, it may still be angered." Even though I've watched this program several times since it first aired, it was only recently when I noticed the communication between "Chief" and "Guardian" (Guardian closes in on Ike, but it looks as if Chief tells him to stand down). I'm half tempted to try writing the entire Alien Planet story from their perspective.

I found it really neat that both the human scout robots and the sentient life were gas bags. Certainly makes a good first impression. Having a gnat launch from your back does _not,_ however.
I always wondered how they were able to take down a Skewer with those tentacle arms, because it would seem very difficult for them to thro that stick with such force that it killed the flying Skewer.
It's very likely their arms are rather muscular, as seen in the book and here, the clubs they have hewn from rock are rather large and likely heavy. They also carry these clubs around much as early humans did. It's very likely, when the probe launched the camera, they mistook it as an attack, and destroyed the object and the probe in retaliation, as prior to that, they didn't seem destructive in the way most animals of darwin 4 are
The second Eosapiens came carrying what could very well be some sort of blowgun. Giving their use of gas as locomotion, it is not unlikely that they are able to exhale enough gas to launch a dart or spear with enough force to kill.

The detailed anatomy isn’t really delved into much, either by this documentary or the book it’s based on (which I personally find a shame), so we can’t really make a judgement any which way on how their shoulders would work so any legitimate guess as to their throwing strength would be a total crapshoot.
In the book Expedition, the Eosapiens are much less hostile to the main characters of the book, where the only worse thing they did was startle them. Also, they're larger in the book, where they make the observation ship that the main characters use to explore Darwin IV look like a kid's toy
They said these creatures ate comparable to something like Homo Habilis which is the hominid that was slightly more Human like and less chimp like but still behaved off of instinct as much as intelligent thought.
