Fun fact: little witch academia is actually meant to simbolilze art school or animation school, as stated by a head animator.
Symbolize or symbolise (UK,AU,NZ,GB). But probably generally preferred as ‘symbolize’ 😉
But I actually really love that. Little witch academia really was a kind of guilty pleasure (man and stuff) but considering having watched it, it really felt fresh. Maybe *because* it had a purpose and message to be told. I already loved the fact that the ‘prologue episodes’ were really just a small part to be told on the grand scale, something I always tend to like. The way the story and episodes was shaped by the characters.
But it doesn’t fit perfectly for me with execution considering symbolizing art school. I have a degree in design, graphic design > logo, media) but I feel like some teachers in art school promote being stubborn because it supports to have your own vision and being it presented but there is probably also a side to art where *teachers* are too stubborn about art while it’s actually their subjective taste (maybe most with paintings) I think Little Witch academia takes this concept and puts it more as ‘what should be traditional and what not’. Normally I don’t connect a lot with chaotic wild passion, but the way the Shiny Chariot definitely puts a perspective how different the ‘shiny chariot’ can be in another world. To me it also shows how important visual stimulation is, even when it’s subjective or passionate. I feel like it is the perfect message on the right medium on the fourth wall. Netflix aired something great and something personal, it’s a great anime that touches more topics than it should be. Great show

I really wish they did more with the series, the world building is honestly really interesting and fun

@Fairysoo And also they conclusively finished all their plots. In an age when tv shows can overstay their welcome or be cut before their prime, it's nice to find a good show where someone had a plan and they executed it all and tied up all the lose threads in a satisfying ending. That said, LWA won't over stay it's welcome. If they want to do something new with it I am there for it!!

I first watched both seasons because I wanted something lighthearted to watch. I'll just say that Akko' s attitude took the show from 100% silly comedy in the first season to 100% happiness in the second season. That made me enjoy her character development quite a bit.

Akko and Diana really are opposites. It's implied in the first episode that Akko's family has a lot of money, which is why Lunanova let her in. However, Diana's family is broke.
@Decipher Studios I think Patronofdragons meant "aren't"......when they show us what Diana's family is like, that was a big "ooof" for me....I suddenly felt a flood of sympathy for Diana. Her family is awful and dysfunctional, and Akko gets to see all their dirty laundry. It's a moment of vulnerability for Diana and breaks the ice between her and Akko and allows their friendship to fully bloom and it's beautiful.
I remember watching this when it first came out and really enjoying it. Even watched the short films when they used to be on Netflix. Great video

No sexual themes or suggestive themes & no gore
Just a happy family friendly anime that can entertain everyone

And it really is a masterpiece. And also its awsome being able to watch it with my kids without worrying about anything they shouldn't be seeing.
I don't really understand why it's so underrated. It's damn near flawless and easily stands up to Trigger's best work (Kill la Kill)

I don't wanna say LWA was my first, but I watched the show many times just because I loved the animation... It's a big influencer in my anime journey.
I could be REALLY late to the party on this but if those 2 girls are named Hannah & Barbara I wonder if it's a reference to Hannah Barbera the cartoon studio?

Love how you described everything so well. Ngl, when you started mentioning those things about what "real" art looks like, that's so relatable.
This show basically straps you to a chair and shouts optimism at you over and over again
Spoilers but after the Fast Broom turned into the Bird Broom I said “that boy better come back later” and then the final battle was in the sky and I was like “that boy BETTER come back” and then he did! I loved that
My favourite spoiler is that they nearly blew up the moon! It's so out of no where and it's been there in the background for the WHOLE SHOW. And like no one brings it up. One of the main plots is how magic is getting outdated so I can't believe someone wouldn't mention the moon got blown up or that no one outside the show noticed. So does that mean Croix got a bit carried away with the memory wipes? When they mention the moon incident in the final ep, I just imagine all the kids raising an eyebrow and whispering: Did something happen to the moon? It's always been like that right? God I love this show. Oh and when Akko gave Constance a drawing I said "That better be a giant anime robot" and I was not disappointed.
I'm currently on season two. It's sooo cute! I think season two is nice but they coulda kept the other 2 by having them too interact with the other peeps. But I like the Tradition vs Technology vs Adaptation.

Watched this a few years back. It was dope. I was annoyed when I found out there was no season 2.
There was a season 2. It was split into 12 episode seasons.

I love Little Witch Academia! It has so much charm! Thanks for such a brilliant and inspiring video. My fav's Dianna. Sorry Akko, but I can't help but root for her. Trigger did far too good a job humanising her and I feel like she's such a driven and hard working witch that she deserves the win. Honestly I felt sometimes plot-wise the only reason Dianna wasn't the main character was because it wasn't told from her perspective, and Akko and the rest provide a bit more entertainment character-wise. Early on it felt like to me that Akko was fumbling into her victories and the wider plot and not really earning it. But then I realised the broader theme and by the end I realised that the main character could have been no one else. Still love Dianna though, sign me up for being a background goon.
First it was Ruby and Weiss, then Akko and Diana, and finally Luz and Amity from Owl House.
Diana's Japanese actress is the same as Ruby's too.
So BASICALLY this show is the Alpha build of The Owl House
As a child, my dream was to become a filmmaker. I grew up, finished cinema college, worked in a studio, but years past and I kind lost interest in the area, also the career is so hard to follow (especially in Brazil). Akko's energetic personality remind me of a part of myself that it maybe should be more present in the current days.

Little Witch Academia is so good. Ursula also defended Ako at one point. As someone who have been look down by teachers. I would have loved to have defend me like that. Seriously when you have so much trouble at school and you have an undying passion. This anime hits you so hard.

I just watched this whole anime in like 2 days (it’s not impressive or anything) and I gotta say this anime was on of the best anime’s I’ve watched and Studio Trigger always manages to impress me. 9/10 for me 🤗

My teachers always tried to make me more interested in art rather than drawing and I hated them for it
Over 30 to this day and I still draw cartoony stuff
I just and I mean just finished the show and I loved it
Just to get it out of my system. I really don't like the fact that almost every teacher in this show cares a thousand times more about rules then what the purpose of the rules are. It could've worked as a narrative of them learning to be more reasonable and understanding, but often times a show like this only has them as a generic obstacles to be overcome by the main character or to be temporarily knocked down by a person that outranks them. They don't learn form the situation, no matter how many times this happens, they instead begrudgingly follow orders from the person in charge and wait for another opportunity to misuse their position of power, intentionally or otherwise, when they aren't around.

If you enjoyed LWA watch The owl house it has a very similar story at the beggining but turns out a little more 'darker'?
Own opinion: akko is such so happy go lucky, idc abt her bg or abilities, my point is her personality. She just believes things will always go her way or turn out for the better. She has super slow character dev. This series is just shallow and just somehow the story is “magic, fix it like nothing” or just bandaid the problem than solving it as a whole istg i cant even. I hated this series but loved it at the same time, i kept watching it since i liked the other characters, story, and animation.
Keep hoping for a Blu-Ray release of this with the dub and the original OVA and original spinoff movie....maybe someday....(cries)
My reaction to someone who wants a job in the arts is less "That's not a real job" and more "Are you sure you can sustain yourself in that cutthroat industry?" I feel like the ratio of applicants to job openings in any part of the arts is really high and only a few people will ever get a living wage.
I loved Sucy in the original OVA and spinoff movie....she was just taciturn & quirky....but Sucy in the LWA series....is actually kind of an asshole. She's still funny but more mean-spirited. Borderline "frenemy" to Akko.
Lotte is nerdy and wholesome throughout. Good friend & roomie for Akko.

I actually kinda hate Diana. She's just a brick wall you can't get any reaction out of. That's just how I feel about her tho.

I would agree with you about Diana for the original OVA; in that one she was pretty one dimensional...basically gender swapped Malfoy. But have to disagree for the expanded series, especially after Akko gets to meet Diana's family and see what her life is really like behind the carefully sculpted facade. The LWA series deeply humanizes Diana and for me rockets her to the top to tie with Akko for #bestgirl. I hated her in the OVA + spinoff movie, but I LOVE her in the Series. She's like a swan on a pond...seemingly floating along gracefully & effortlessly, but under the surface she's swimming furiously. Diana actually works very hard too...and I love how she came to grudgingly respect Akko and become friends.

*Sigh* Like, maybe we'll get a Blu-Ray of this someday, with the dub & the original OVA and the spinoff movie combined....but Netflix is pretty hit or miss when it comes to physical releases of their anime properties. If you didn't back the original LWA kickstarter or don't want to import the sub from Japan, you're kinda screwed if you want to own this series on physical media.

With as how diverse each character is, i'm sad that most characters sound too western in the dub, like i get that they all speak and sound japanese in the subbed version, but Akko is Japanese Lotte is Finnish Sucy is Filipino but in the dub they sound just Too western, like it even takes place in Britain aswell aha!
