- Ever wondered what it would be like to dive looking like Darth Vader or a Navy Seal?
In this episode of Everything Scuba, we will introduce you to the world of Full Face Mask (FFM) Scuba Diving. There are many advantages to using a full face mask but also some draw backs.
In Part 1 we will introduce you to the OTS Guardian FFM. A great piece of equipment with many cool features. In part 2 we will review the OTS Spectrum FFM and discuss it's differences compared to the Guardian. lastly in Part 3, we will discuss the process of the PADI Full Face Mask Certification and how you too could become a Full Face Mask Diver.

As a FFM newbie (I tested an OTS Guardian in a pool and am waiting for delivery of one) and a video editor/writer, I think your video is outstanding in explaining not only the mask's features and benefits, but also providing tips on pre-dive procedures. Plus, like you, I'm not one of those divers who can just swallow to equalize; your video assuages my ear concern.
Brian. Thanks for your kind words! Let us know how you get on with your new Guardian! Hope you love it!
Great video and thank you for the shoutout (18:56)! We love our Guardian FFM and use it with the Aquacom SSB 2010 for underwater communication all the time. One thing we learned, when it comes to using the Guardian with wireless underwater communication, it works best with a piston 1st stage instead of a diaphragm 1st stage. When paired with a diaphragm 1st stage it can create a lot of inhalation noise every time you breathe. This doesn't seem to be the case with a piston 1st stage.
Thanks for the input. That is a great point to know. I know with our Buddy Phones it can be difficult to hear well at times. Great idea to switch to a piston 1st stage!
Excellent review of this face mask, very informative. As a diver previously having limited knowledge of how full face masks are configured and work, this was a very good introduction for me. Couldn't help but pause the video to check out the cost. Can't wait for the next episodes.
Thank you John! Stay tuned for the additional upcoming episodes on FFM diving! Glad you are enjoying our episodes!
Thank you John! Glad you enjoyed the review. Stick around for the rest of the series and share with your diver buddies!
I did full face mask diving many years ago I was a rescue diver on a dive team when I was on the job .trained by Dive Rescue Specialist now known as Dive Rescue International I was a FF/ Paramedic/ Diver/ and many more job titles.
Bob, thanks for your comments. As you know FFM is a must have piece of gear for safety divers! Thanks for watching!
You are right open water in my area was feel only. but we did have a 6 man ice team where we used full face mask all so surface air with communications with dry suits visibility was much better under ice. Loved them days I still dive at 65.
Love my OTS Guardian mask.
Hi Guys! Thanks for the video!
John thanks for you comments and welcome to Everything Scuba!!!
Awesome thank you for the review but I am a ocean reeffull face Diver
Nice mask
Hi Lyle, I just purchased an Ocean Reef Space Extender. Doing a dry fit I get no apparent leak at all. However wehn i took it to the pool and donned the mask how the manufacturer reccomended i get air leaking out around my temples.I Have tried many different tightening methods and positions with no luck. Dont know much about the positive pressure in the mask but i assume air would escape if not sealed correctly? I would like to assume its just a fit problem although the size chart says im diving the correct size. Also the air leak completely stops when i turn and face the surface. How does the mask maintain positive pressure? is it always pulling from your regulator to maintain pressure. Want to try and make sure its not a regulator adjustment problem before i send it back for another size. Any advice would be helpfull.
they make these for ccr
Can i use a FFM on a CCR?
Matteo, in an upcoming episode we will be having a Q & A session wirh Instructor Nevin and we will talk about the use of a FFM and it’s logistics with a CCR. Thanks for watching and you comments.
