At a place I used to sing karaoke at, there used to be this old guy who'd come in, and could sing great. He LOVED that I sang "The Streak" by Ray Stevens. Skip, wherever you are, I miss you, sir!!
We just did this show a few weeks ago, and this song was one of the audience's favorites every night. It's quite the embodiment of a party, with all the stops pulled out to make it one last hurrah of celebration. The dance section, especially, where the choreographer(s) can have so much fun mixing and matching styles because it's the informal Cockney dancing, not the rigid and ruled upper crust Gavotte and Waltz. Between the several Cockney sections, we had a couple polkas, a can-can, a hoedown, line dancing, some shipoopie, and a whole lot of fun.
We played few songs from this show last Christmas and they are absolute bangers! I think the last few bars where the trombones have that fanfare and trumpets finish in chords is just appropriate finish. Also saw the show 2 weeks ago in Manchester. It couldn't be better, absolutely fabulous acting ! I got to go twice :D and always loved entire time! Anyway this is one of those gigs where if you are at least a little decent actor/musician you've great opportunity to enjoy from the beggining to the end.
Friends Jerry and Maureen (after 15 years plus of blissful common law life) are getting married today, Friday, June 24, 2002, City Hall, Windsor, Ontario. Perfect for them.
i saw sheet music for this song in my old schoolwork, and i dont really remember why but i think we sang this for elementary school chorus, either way whatever its from my minds still able to remember the melody
The Cockney accent reminds me of the guys in Frasier who are meant to be English (Daphne's brothers). The accent isn't wholly wrong, but doesn't sound quite right. I suppose it is more studied than loose. He is a whopper.
The tempo is a bit slow - It is supposed to be a street can-can according to the score. The original choreography was much more athletic. I was lucky enough to be in a community theatre production and our choreographer had been dance captain for a professional tour (the original Hanya Holm choreography still had to be used for pro productions. ) The only thing she changed for us was to cut the double tour en l'air for the guys in one part as we just couldn't do it properly. At one rehearsal, while they were doing the "blanket throw" with me on their arms, I was thrown over the other guys' heads and landed on the ground behind them. No damage, just winded, but it made us all realise this was for real.
Constructive criticism - The accent of the guy playing Doolittle is a fair attempt. However the vowel sound in "dancing" is pronounced the same by both Cockneys and in RP (i.e. posh) English - it is "dahncin" in Cockney with a long 'a' (and dropping the 'g'). His short 'a' sticks out. Also his long 'i' vowel in I, time/chime/prime etc needs more work e.g. he says "a'm getting married" instead of "eye'm getting married".
"You will leave her alone, you will go you will step down or i swear that you will know such sorrow, grief you cant believe screams of anguish and of strife and in your torment and in tears you'll scream and cry to end your life, I’m Han-Mi, I you will beg me then to die beg me cease, unholy things pain and woe you will know if you do not let her go"
This seems lackluster for a Broadway tour. Watching this convinced me NOT to purchase tickets as is would tarnish my memories of seeing an awesome production on Broadway many moons ago
For a Pro Theater Company with Annual Report figures around $25 million, it's sad not to list the proper copyright credits of song writer attribution, etc. Was this a mere oversight? Anyway, David Bowie paid homage to this song on 'Modern Man'. I was disappointed to hear how lame this original song sounds. At least in Mozart's or Korngold's stage songs, you don't hear the kind of mock degeneracy that infects so much of Broadway that reportedly was / is intentional subversion of culture, per Theodore Adorno and his shills, the cultural harbingers of the atheistic Frankfurt School. Need to research if this is a fair assessment of the overall musical itself. I don't recall any memorable tunes that can hold a candle to 'The Sound of Music'. I'm trying to give culture it's appreciation, really trying, but so far, I don't hear much in this piece. Is he, like Bowie, saying that getting to church on time is a pointless exercise? If so, then yes, subversive. Look at what the Talmud says, per Dr. E. Michael Jones expose in Culture Wars Magazine: "to destroy the Goy". Is it true? Or is this "high art", innocent of the charges? Let us give the benefit of the doubt, and do some more research, shall we? Despite a personal distaste upon first impressions, one might try as he may to keep an open mind, as P.T. Barnum says, that the art of making people happy is one of the noblest endeavors. So, does this art make one happy, or offend? Well, let's give it some time. For now, hearing this drivel does not make me happy, but rather, incensed. Is this the Adorno plan at work? Is this what is being pimped as educational "culture"? A friend from Santa Barbara, CA says that city is a den of noxious Liberals. So yes, maybe songs like this make them feel "happy", to subvert that which (most of) they hate. As for me, it's been a long while since I've seen the film, so maybe I'll revisit and see what some church reviewers say. Stay tuned!
Okay.... funny and amusing. But compared to the ORIGINAL choreography 🙄 just amateur. And why is the tempo soooo slow??? My god... with the revival in NL of 👉the original ☝️production in 1972-3 we were almost death after the can-can! Saw the revival of the original on Broadway in 1981 with Rex Harrison‘s 1500 th 😲 performance! He was absolutely at his/the best. But the choreography? Yes, after the original! But all lifts and other stuff and stunts were cut! 😲 I’ve never seen something NEAR the original while I do know that today’s dancers are much better and able to do better and more. So what the heck is this...? I don’t get it... 😳
Are you perfect Daniel? No you are not, that’s why you are here being rude to a group of people trying their best, sit down and be kind, you should know better at your old age.
I’m getting married in about a month in Newport Beach, CA. Think I’ll have our DJ play this song. Great play, and a great song!
This took me back to my art school days 😩 I love a good musical 💕

I think Cyrus should play Doolittle at Mathyue's wedding. He's adorable and looks just like the guy in the video.
Claire From Indy Popcon I think Mathyue should play it because he's the one actually getting married

Exactly - this is so "careful" and not what we expect these days from Broadway standard dancers.
At least the scene is choreographed ; there was virtually none in the film which left me feeling flat.
Sure, but it doesnt make my critic different! So unbearably slow 🙄
