My first Argento movie was Deep Red and I agree it's a great place to start.

The Bird with the Crystal Plumage is my favourite. I personally think Argento never really got much better, even though he came close. He smashed it first time.

Deep Red is the most original and a great starter for a Giallo. To be enjoyed in the "short English" and "long Italian" cuts alike. You have some great other recommendations on this video too - and loved Phenomena!

I've seen about 97% of all giallo. My intro for giallo would be Suspiria, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, The case of the Scorpion's tail, and The strange vice of Mrs.Ward.
My personal intro into gialli were Suspiria, Deep red, Torso, The strange vice of Mrs.Ward, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Four flies on Grey velvet, and The case of the Scorpion's tail. That was back in the 2000's, but I got really really into giallo back in 2014 and into 2015. Not even almost dying and in the hospital for 19 days didn't prevent me from watching giallo.
I watched The editor and i absolutely HATE and DESPISE that movie.
The editor to me was nothing more but "Those 70's giallo movies are f**king STUPID. Their awful. I only like them ironically. Look at me, I'm a hipster!"
There is a difference between Scream, Student bodies, and homages/parody vs out right mockery and plagiarism. All the characters are unlikable, unlike 99% of all giallo movies. Nonstop mockery of the dubbing and it's overly exaggerated. A boring as hell plot. I can't even remember the plot. Just felt completely aimless. Lacked any and all thriller aspects. It wasn't a "love letter" to the genre at all, it was pure mockery and going "Ya, those giallo movies are AWFUL. But I like the color palettes and some of the directing. Other then that their trash." They totally missed the entire point of a giallo movie, like most modern giallo movies. Most modern giallo movies 100% miss what the entire point of a giallo movie is; they are only interested in the art house side of them, and not ALL THE UNDERLINING MATERIAL. Very much like the majority of modern cinema. To quote an 80's actor who starred in multiple classic 80's action movies.
"I think the films of the 80's; I think they came from old school heads, who - they knew STORY ARCH. THEY KNEW CHARACTER ARC AND BUILT ON THAT, THEY PUT ACTION THERE. THAT WAS ORGANICALLY MOTIVATED BY THE STORY. Now more today, it's the ACTION that drives the story. NOT the story drives the action. The question is...do you CARE about anybody that got shot? Hahaha. That's the real question."
and another 80's writer about 80's movies; specifically 80's action movies vs modern cinema especially action movies.
"The action movies from the 80's. The ones that are memorable. They had a bit more plotting. More twists. More plausible villians and nowadays I think people are emulating 'OH THAT'S JUST THE STUNTS" and NOT LOOKING at the UNDERLINING MATERIAL."
To quote Joe Bobb Briggs about 80's horror.
""The people who watched these films in the 80's weren't watching them from an ironic point of view. They were watching them because THEY ENJOYED THE MAYHEM."
Why do I love giallo movies?! BECAUSE I LOVE THRILLERS. I love the murder mystery aspect. I love the sleaze. I love the mood I get when I watch these movies. I love the enviroments. I love the "under dog" type story. I love the directing. I love the soundtracks. I love the color palettes. I even like the dubbing. I love the over the top violence and overall exploitation style of film making. I love the stories and plots. I love the look of the killers. I love the acting and actors, and dialog. The 70's and 80's Italian fashion. The Italian style of film making. I aint watching these movies like I am watching Troll 2 and going "Oh ya, these movies are so bad I love em." No, these are GOOD MOVIES and The editor to me was not a love letter, but a HATE letter and ....if your gonna out right steal/plagiarize scenes from the original movies; JUST WATCH THE ORIGINAL F**KING MOVIES!!!!! And of course anyone who knows me as a movie/horror fan "The 70's and 80's were the golden age and always will be and modern movies and horror movies SUCK. Cinema of the past is far far superior. The majority of modern cinema SUCKS. Shot on digital; terrible color grading, terrible lighting. I absolutely DESPISE, out right DESPISE this bluish tint and color palette trend. Where the lighting is blue, washed out, every single character is wearing blue. The outside scenes are washed out. Killing the environment. The fashion is boring, dull, plain. Plain, boring as f**k backgrounds. Lack of sound; might as well be shot on a sound stage. Mainstream, sanitized. Lacking all the exploitation and semi underground elements of the 70's and 80's. I can just go on and on and on and on. These movies were made for a SPECIFIC audience. Nowadays EVERY SINGLE MOVIE HAS TO BE MADE FOR EVERYBODY. Commentary and concept over characters and plot. Lack of good awesome soundtracks, soundtracks made specifically for the film. I can just go on and on and on. Modern audience and films: Oh those older movies from the 70's, 80's, 90's are too slow." YA, that builds MOOD. Lets you get hooked into the environments.
Eyeball is a giallo movie I always love and it's high up there. Pure comfort giallo movie. Sad to see Autopsy is in Mehh. Autopsy is high on my list.

Great channel but one thing…please use the right pronunciation of the words giallo and gialli.
    Its a silent “i”
Don’t worry so many people in the horror community say the words wrong 👍
