  • Firefighting crews utilized water hoses to combat flames emerging from windows and openings of a two-storey, green wooden structure at 11 Carleton St. This building is part of the Fredericton Military Compound, recognized as a National Historic Site of Canada. It encompasses four historic buildings.
Assistant Deputy Chief David McKinley suggested that the fire likely originated at the rear of the building, ascending through its walls and extensively affecting the attic.
This particular structure, identified as the militia arms store, dates back to 1832, as per Parks Canada's records.
It's one of the four surviving buildings from the original British establishment of a Fredericton garrison in 1784, which lasted until the Imperial troops withdrew in 1869.
Situated in the area known as the Historic Garrison District, this site was officially designated as a national historic site in 1960.
