Im no expert but I think the curlier your hair is the better it will work. I have a 4a hair type and we've been growing our hair for around the same time. I've been using a sponge for about 2-3 weeks and a little bit of locking gel and my hair is forming pretty well. In 2 weeks I'm gonna get a high top fade and then freeform from there so I can have a similar style to 2017 xxxtentacion but without bleaching it.

A couple of years ago I had started dreads with a sponge when my hair was short. But I restarted so much times because I was impatient. So this time I'm gonna try freeform for the first time I'm excited. My hair is about an inch only so I'm excited that I started my freeform journey and also I've been taking pictures everyday. Which reminds me time to take a pic of my hair bye

Have had 1 dread for over 3 years and it's grown to the same length as the rest of my hair. My hair, when going down both sides and split down the middle, go roughly a bit under my jaw. Would such long hair be any problem for this method? And would there be extra maintenance required? careful how you interlock your hair, you might be breaking the hair at the roots. which will be harmful in the long-run.

@@johnyght55 Oh shoot. So the holes I got in the roots at the moment what would I do to fix that? or should I leave it and just stop interlocking? Because I interlocked my front two and they were perfect, I interlocked probably 5 others and I think three of which got holes left in them, even though I did the same interlock process and the same way across all of them. Is there even anyway I can fix the current holes? or like I said should I just leave it?

@@jaywells4023 Don't worry, don't interlock those dreads again for now. and for the holes, those will disappear, you kept pocking through that specific root a lot thus the hole formations. Next time you interlock, poke the dread once or twice ''Front>Left>Back>Right'' then maybe repeat once more. because you don't want to break your hair into the locks.

I have been using a dread sponge on my almost exclusively since I started my locks. I took me a while to get them to dread but when they did it looked decent. it is hard to deal with regrowth for me and recently I have been considering trying a different method when trying to deal with the regrowth. I have not retwisted my hair myself (which is probably part of the problem). I would recommend this method for some looking for a quick and easy method to creating dreadlocks but they do not look as appealing as I originally imagined
