Im no expert but I think the curlier your hair is the better it will work. I have a 4a hair type and we've been growing our hair for around the same time. I've been using a sponge for about 2-3 weeks and a little bit of locking gel and my hair is forming pretty well. In 2 weeks I'm gonna get a high top fade and then freeform from there so I can have a similar style to 2017 xxxtentacion but without bleaching it.

with straight hair i don’t recommend it, i recommend for straight hair for you to just get a retwist and let them grow. because with straight hair it will lock slower and the sponge/towel rub method will make straight hair dreads weird.
@@obselatelate1097 you can’t get 4C (kinky hair) from straight hair. if you aren’t born with kinky hair you can’t get kinky hair. you can start with sponge/towel rub but it will take i think like a year before it will look nice. i will recommend you to take a retwist to begin your dreads with. if you want skinny dreads take like 1,5 months a retwist. if you want thick dreads take less retwist. the less retwist you get the more thick they will get.

Have had 1 dread for over 3 years and it's grown to the same length as the rest of my hair. My hair, when going down both sides and split down the middle, go roughly a bit under my jaw. Would such long hair be any problem for this method? And would there be extra maintenance required? Did this for my first time today, *immediately* went from relatively straight&hard hair to dread-textured hair. Now just have to wait for locs to form.

Yo I got a crochet needle and an interlocking tool form greatlocs.com and after countless hours of watching your videos I finally did my own dreads and they turned out great. God bless you, however when I interlocked some of my dreads had a hole left in them at the root from where the tool entered/came out. Anyone know how to fix that? Should I be concerned or is it not a huge problem?

Because I interlocked my front two and they were perfect, I interlocked probably 5 others and I think three of which got holes left in them, even though I did the same interlock process and the same way across all of them. Is there even anyway I can fix the current holes? or like I said should I just leave it?
@@jaywells4023 Don't worry, don't interlock those dreads again for now. and for the holes, those will disappear, you kept pocking through that specific root a lot thus the hole formations. Next time you interlock, poke the dread once or twice ''Front>Left>Back>Right'' then maybe repeat once more. because you don't want to break your hair into the locks.

I have been using a dread sponge on my almost exclusively since I started my locks. I took me a while to get them to dread but when they did it looked decent. it is hard to deal with regrowth for me and recently I have been considering trying a different method when trying to deal with the regrowth. I have not retwisted my hair myself (which is probably part of the problem). I would recommend this method for some looking for a quick and easy method to creating dreadlocks but they do not look as appealing as I originally imagined
My hair it’s so dirty and so frizzy I start my dreads with the crochet hook method but I am waiting to grow my side to get a full headed set of dreads with extensions

It depends in your hair type. If you have any type of 4 then use it every other day. And don't wash your hair alot, probably once a month

careful how you interlock your hair, you might be breaking the hair at the roots. which will be harmful in the long-run.
