Ken's idea is the most sensible plan I've heard, for the left to move forward in the present political situation. Thanks Crispin and Ken.

How can a party leader who has lost, conservatively 30-50% of his party's members, claim any sort of legitimacy? EASY! He's the establishment's man and HE SHOULD NOT BE LEADER OF OUR PARTY. We may be "stuck with him", but if the party doesn't get rid of him - we need a party that will represent our interests.

I think Ken Loach is speaking sense here, and I would agree with him on how the left find a path to government, he has the correct ideas, that a left wing political party, an INDEPENDENT LABOUR PARTY is the best way of attacking and destroying Starmer, I think. However, if the left are to form the next government, then we MUST put clear RED water between ourselves and the Blairites, and we can only do that by separating from them. Those on the right wing of politics MUST be CRUSHED.

Building the infrastructure to provide direct political education to the public is the only way forward. With growing levels of dissatisfaction, disillusionment and mistrust in the both the formal political establishment and the establishment media there's a fast ripening opportunity to awaken the public consciousness.

I agree with - almost - every word Ken says.
We have the superstructure. We have the policies. We have the activists. Why not closer integration, between the organisations mentioned?
One thing that puzzles me. Why settle for the GE17 Manifesto policies? After GE17, JC said he wished they had gone further with that Manifesto, which Labour did, in GE19. A fully costed set of policies that, even, many in the MSM praised. Use it. Use it as the base.
Who would be the figurehead - the rallying point. Jeremy Corbyn? Would he be willing to go through all that vilification, once more? I would hesitate to ask that of him.
Which begs the question - if not JC - who?
As Ken said, we no longer have the time. Time is running out.

I have a horrible feeling that things are going to change in the very near future
We're going into the winter with this cost of living with prices being forced up to increase profits and an energy crisis that will close business and make unemployment rate rise
As soon as the fat and comfortable become the frozen and starved, voting for an abstract better future is gone and direct action is taken
We may get through the winter but then what?
Be brave,be optimistic the oligarchy has messed up big time
The war in Ukraine was the oligarchs best hope, but they are finding out that the sanctions that were going to smash the Russian economy failed. So no loot bonus

I hope the leaders of the Enough is Enough movement have this intention and listen to Ken Loach on this. For a while my thinking was clouded as to whether go through the Labour Party route, via encouraging people on the left to join or rejoin the Party in order to flood the system and make the purging of the left out of the Labour Party unenforceable. After watching this video and listening to what Ken Loach has said here, I am 100% convinced that the best route is to make sure the Enough is Enough campaign movement has a political party emerge out of it. However, in order to make sure any left wing political party which may emerge out of the Enough is Enough movement MUST have at least ONE MILLION members, which means that we have at least ONE MILLION guaranteed left wing voters for the next election. WE CANNOT AFFORD THE TORIES ON EITHER SIDE OF THE WESTMINSTER BENCHES WHO WANT TO REMOVE ALL OUR HUMAN RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS, WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. This is an EMERGENCY, and I just wish I saw ONE SINGLE SIGN that the LEADERS OF THE ENOUGH IS ENOUGH MOVEMENT WOULD SHOW THAT THEY ARE IN A HURRY TO CREATE A PATH TO POWER WHICH IS READY FOR THE NEXT ELECTION, AND THEY MUST BEAR IN MIND THAT THE NEXT ELECTION COULD HAPPEN AT ANY MOMENT, IT MAY NOT BE 2 YEARS UNTIL THE NEXT ELECTION. So, please, to all those leaders of the Enough is Enough movement please get a move on and I STRONGLY URGE JEREMY CORBYN, now that his latest appeal to be allowed back to the Labour Party to fight Labour at the next election as an INDEPENDENT LABOUR CANDIDATE, which should then have the effect of others following him as INDEPENDENT LABOUR CANDIDATES. I believe the public are just itching to get out there and campaign for a REAL LEFT WING LABOUR PARTY, and since we no longer have the Labour Party on our side and which gives us a path to government, then it is essential that we go down the INDEPENDENT LABOUR CANDIDATES ROUTE.

Ken is right not to concentrate on a political party which would be a distraction, a unified movement led by the unions is the most important thing and the momentum from that would inevitably lead to Parliamentary representation.

It would have to be a party, rather than just a "movement". People flooded to Labour under Corbyn because there was a real chance of gaining power imminently. If it were just a vague "movement", with no clear goals, far fewer people would join, and it would fizzle out. With regard to people still in the Labour Party - well, sometimes you just have to choose.
It would be very important to get significant union buy-in, as Ken says. This would be the key, since this would indicate that it is serious. At present, you would surely only pick up the smaller, more radical unions. But if there is a lot more industrial unrest over the next 6 months, and fallout from Truss' policies, and Labour responds weakly, perhaps you could attract some support from the bigger unions as well. That would be something to build upon. You'd probably want to start the thing now, though, to benefit from that.
At the moment, with Labour ahead in the polls, most "moderate" Labour people would surely just stay where they are. If this new formation looked like gaining serious traction, then Labour would lean left a little. Consequently, I do think that this new party would probably end up in a similar position to the previous attempts to set up a new left party during the New Labour years - people barely remember their names. Of course, the difference is the "memory" of Corbynism, and the much-deteriorated social conditions, which have radicalized people. If it got a membership in the hundreds of thousands - MASSIVELY bigger than those other parties - then this is a different matter, as Ken says. Then you're talking, since this is money, (social)-media presence, canvassing power, etc.
But then, if everything went well, and this new party competed strongly in a General Election, it might pick up, say, a few tens of seats maximum? Surely, the effect of that would just be to let the Tories back in - especially given that, as things stand, Labour must position itself so as to be able to do a deal with the Lib Dems, if they are going to achieve an 80-seat swing. But on the other hand, this is ALWAYS the position the Left is in. Surely we just have at some point to say "so what". After all, we don't know what will happen. It could be we end up holding the balance of power for a minority government.
I support the idea. Think of the energy!! (Incidentally, James Schneider has a newly-released book, 'Our Bloc', arguing for something similar to Ken's idea).

PR is the key. Unfortunately Starmer will know that so he wont push it any more than the Tories will. Ironically we need the Liberals to do well at the next election so they hold the balance of power. They will want PR and if they got it a new Socialist party would probably get circa 20% (My guess is Labour 25%, Greens 15% and Tories 30% and 10% independents) So Socialists and Greens would be the biggest combined party. Its the only route I see forward...

    • @browncow7113
      @browncow7113 Рік тому

You are right. There is a very high chance of this occurring, since there is no way Labour will achieve an 80-seat swing without the Liberals, and PR will be the price the latter demand. Under PR, the Left could form its own party, and Labour would break up into its two different constituent fractions. But surely there is rarely going to be as good a time to set up that Left party than now, given the circumstances.

    • @johnbaruch1076
      @johnbaruch1076 Рік тому +1

Two great things about PR first it can get rid of the Tories if Labour will work with the Lib Dems and secondly it ends the era of deceit. If you need to build collaborations you have to keep your promises!!!

You can't 'get people together' ...any golden 'halcyon days' of coming together as one - is over.
If it ever existed to begin with?
The population of the West now lives in an ethnically non-homogeneous society.
A melting pot of culturally diverse and divisive views.
Exacerbated by exploitative social media platforms.
Half of all ( traditional ) Labour supporters want no immigration.
They see their towns and cities fractured and as an alien landscape.
In which they no longer feel safe or 'at home' in and as increasingly dangerous places,
The other half of Labour supporters want an open door immigration policy - more the merrier.
Apart from the tories, every other party offers open door immigration - as standard.
This split... is why the tories will win every election... no matter how much they're despised.
It may take a generation or two of people 'fully indoctrinated' into losing all sense of nostalgia,
for the past and into having no sense of nationalism or 'nation state pride'.
Stripped of all identity, a world of pure Capitalism with no other meaning to their lives.
That's the future... till then, it's tories for the foreseeable.

TUSC formed #PAL with a few minor parties including Ken Loach's Left Unity. The other parties broke away because TUSC wanted to co-ordinate with The Workers Party to make sure they weren't competing for a relatively small number of votes in the same seats
It obviously made sense for small left parties to all campaign under the same banner but it didn't last long (TWP was not joining #PAL so it was not necessary to agree with them on all details)
Ken Loach's work is admirable but his party (which fields no candidates) is not working co-operatively because of petty differences so he is perhaps not the person to talk about unity on the left

Nice idea Ken, but you seemed to come up for the reason for why this wouldn't work. To cite 2017, the Jeremy agenda was undermined as much from within Labour as by the MSM. The Union movement has been decimated to a point where there are now only 6 million union members. The Labour Party has always sought to portray itself as a bunch of, "respectable parliamentarians", this allied to the sectarianism within unions and various left groupings is why we are left ruing the lost opportunity of 2017. The games up everyone, you ain't seen nothing yet as regards to how workers and communities are going to be crushed by Truss and her buddies at the UN and WEF. I hope i'm wrong ....... maybe if we start to address why the so called modern left despise the working classes, then we might have a starting point. Paul Embury for PM?
