Hi. Ex motor claims loss adjuster for a motor UK insurer here.
Re-read your policy. In most fire and or mechanical failure situations the insurer is not liable for the part that failed (as mechanical breakdown is not covered on motor insurance...that would be a separate purchasable warranty) HOWEVER....most UK motor insurance policies DO cover consiquencial loss.
So....in your scenario, let's say for instance there was a short in high tension wiring to ground and that caused ignition of the fire; you would not be covered for the breakdown of the wire (arguably a few £) BUT you would be covered for the consequential loss of the fire damage that resulted.
Have a good look at the T&C's and unless it rules out a claim for the consequential loss you have a valid claim.
Please act on the above, then raise a formal complaint with your insurer detailing all financial loss, distress and inconvenience, and out of pocket expenses incurred. They will then have 6 weeks to bring about a resolution. If you remain disatisfied with the outcome you have the right to refer to the financial ombudsman service, who will issue a ruling that is binding on the insurer. All that process is free to you as a consumer and doesn't compromise your legal rights should it still not be resolved in your favour.

Hello again there is nothing T&C but a line in the Insurer Policy Booklet, at the top of the General exclusion:
Unless we are required to do so by a relevant road traffic law, we will not pay for any accident, injury, loss,
      damage, liability, or consequential loss:
but no mention of fire damage in the rest of the Insurer Policy Booklet a part from 3rd party fire and theft which say we're covered with fully comp, is this line enought to refuse a cliam, thanks John

If you have a comp policy (a step up from Third Party Fire and Theft) fire howsoever caused will be covered. The cause of the fire (mechanical or electrical) will be covered. Your liability should be limited to your insurance excess and the value of the electrical or mechanical part that is deemed to have caused the fire.
Complain formally, verciferously and in writing as detailed above in the original post.

@@budgesbusontourhappytravel200 it was the garages insurance we are having trouble with and the garage owner has been avoiding us. The garage had no alarms, no CCTV. We now are going through our own insurance company and they say they will pay out. It's the paperwork we're waiting for now. Just hope we don't have very inflated premiums next as it was not our fault it got stolen. We shall see. Best of luck and wishes to you, I hope you get some kind of compensation. Thank you for posting your vlog I'm sure it will help lots of Motorhomers.

the best way around this is when your getting a quote. is have a list of questions of the items you want to be insured for.

What an absolute horror story. That is shameful behaviour from your insurance company. There is no way that clause can stop them paying out in your situation.

why would you get insurance to begin with i have felt this for years as i know there all criminal in operation and policy . insurance agencies are not unlike government and bureaucrats all the above are our enemy to put it nicely, interactions are always safe and effective,(for them).

I agree 100% their got us over a barrel the law says we have to have it so the insurance companies keep banging the price up and then hide loophole in their policy wording to get out of paying when you think you have a claim
