Great vlog! It's always so interesting to think about how a book interacts with where you are in life and what impact is has on you because of that. Glad you had such a good time with your read!
How nice of Lila to share her dog bed with you. I'm glad this was an engrossing read. I've only read one Stephen King and it was a non-horror The Green Mile.
Yeah she isn't the most cuddly of dogs but she enjoys a good stroke and a bit of contact. What did you think of The Green Mile? It is one I'm curious to read
@@baskinthestory Honesty I read it a long time ago but I remember not liking it due to the magical realism. If that doesn't bother you, I think you will like it. It was very easy to read.
I'm glad I'm not the only late to the Stephen King party! I read my first last year, and it was a great time! Pet Sematary is on my TBR as the next one I want to read.
@@baskinthestory I read Christine first! I wanted to ease into it by reading the book version of a movie I watched all the time when I was younger, so that one was it!
Oh my goodness, the shot you filmed while walking through the tube station, very reminiscence of an American werewolf in London from 1981 very much John Landis classic
Awesome vlog! Love your dog, so beautiful. Great to see your passion for rugby on your vlog. Excellent review of Pet Sematary, I agree that it is a study of loss and grief. I would strongly recommend The Shining for a terrifying read, in my mind his scariest novel. However, if you want to read an incredible novel by King that is not horror, read 11/22/63. Just a magical story that has stuck with me.
I have heard a few people talk about how good 11/22/63 is so will definitely get to it. My wife is recommending The Shining too, says she loves the first line! It was good to get to a game, used to be a session ticket holder but now only get to three or so games a year so appreciate watching a solid performance and a victory
Awesome vlog, Matt! Loved seeing your dog, Lyla, the rugby match, views of London, etc. I haven’t read any Stephen King either yet and I remember someone talking about this being very focused on grief. That’s always interesting when you can relate to the characters and I’m sure it can make the content a bit harder to swallow as you can’t help but imagine it happening to you. I definitely hope to get to this one and your video was really fun to watch!
what a great video!! I’m glad you enjoyed the novel, it is my favourite of Kings works for sure! I’d also recommend The Dead Zone…a really great main character in that one.
I did manage to read one of his earlier backlist books and one of my favorite films adapted by Brian DePalma starring sissy, Spacek, Carrie I highly recommend, seeking out the audiobook and reading it with a physical copy. The audiobook of Carrie is narrated by Sissy Spacek.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the book. I think Pet Semetary is one of his best. I don’t have children, but so many of the parents I know who have read it have the same experience as you. It’s just such a heart wrenching story. The Shining also has some great explorations of the father-son dynamic. I personally think it’s better than the film. Also gonna sneak in a vote for 11/22/63. It’s not horror, but such a compelling read and I still think about the final scene after all these years.
I've read all of King's books feel free to ask any questions. Lesser known books by SK I personally found scarier are Rose Madder, Later, In the Tall Grass, and the short story The Library Policeman. An interesting thing to do with Pet Semitary in particular is also read The October Country by Ray Bradburry.
That is quite the achievement, having read all his extensive catalogue of work! I'm impressed. Thank you for the recommendations, the lesser known ones I had, unsurprisingly, never heard of so will definitely be interested in checking them out. Just had a quick look at them and Later and In The Tall Grass are certainly peaking my interest.
Yiur vlogs are great! I hope you can do more like this. I know how long editing and filming takes (I create content on a different channel) so please take your time but please know it's engaging and relaxing.
Thank you so much for the feedback, I have plans to do more in 2024. It does take extra time with all the editing and filming but I enjoyed the process so will be doing more
I've never read Pet Sematary...because I'm a wimp. I think that one just might be too much for me. However, I enjoyed hearing what you thought of it. I also enjoyed the peak into your life!
Yeah I thought I would throw myself into the deep end with King and see what I thought. It was pretty disturbing and I had to read something else before bed as otherwise my mind was going into overdrive!
Pet Semetary is a deeply unsettling and creepy book. I think out of all of the King books I've read that one definitely takes the top award for creepiness, and I read it before I had kids, god knows what I'll feel about it if I re-read it now. Possible other King's to read I would recommend Cujo, 'Salems Lot and The Dark Half
I grew up with a black lab named Toddy I can attest to black labs being some of the best dogs ever Unfortunately, she had age related medical issues and we had to put her down. She lived to the ripe old age of 18. Of course, I probably should have put her down four years earlier, but I was selfish because purebred dogs aren’t meant to live past the age of 12 to 14
Wow 18! I'm hoping Lyla has a few more years but who knows she has already had two bouts of cancer that she has come through but as they get older the health concerns do rise
Unfortunately, to the detriment of many a lot of characters in this book, do not handle grief in any constructive or healthy way Ultimately, this book will hit you differently as an adult to end of parent then it would’ve had you read it as an adolescent
Great vlog! It's always so interesting to think about how a book interacts with where you are in life and what impact is has on you because of that. Glad you had such a good time with your read!
It so is, sometimes the timing of when you read a book can be as important as the book itself

Louis is pronounced “Louis”, of course. We live to serve.
Thanks to Lila for being such a gracious hostess.

🤣 Thank you for the pronunciation help! 🤣
As a member of the frosted mug club, your Labrador Lila looks every inch the distinguished and mature lady
She is indeed ❤️

Thanks Ally, The Shining is on the list. Going to have to check out 11/22/63 too as a few people have mentioned how good a read it is!
Ohhh read The Shining. I like to start my New Year with The King. If It Bleeds and Holly😊
A few people have said to read The Shining next so thinking it might be the one I pick up.
Starting each new year with The King sounds like fun

I've been re-reading it in French via a copy I bought at the Paris Catacombs :D
That is very cool, it will be interesting to hear whether you feel much is lost in translation
@@baskinthestory It's actually been funny that I can still recognise King's writing style even in a different language!
That is some great translation work, to maintain a writers style into a new language is very impressive

Pet Sematary was very creepy and the connection with the dad really brought some of the fears home!

Absolutely! 💯
I just never could get in King, that’s including the movies. He just bored all the time mostly
I suppose no author works for everyone
