My dad had owned/operated an appliance store - Lissee Home Appliances @ 213 Ossington Ave (Dundas St) from 1946 to 1975. We lived above the store on the 2nd & 3rd floors. I went to Givins Public School and Central Commerce. The neighbourhood was a mix of European immigrants and we all were patrons in each other stores. Loved the area and often visit it and go to the Lakeview Restaurant for lunch. It appears the Lakeview is the lone survivor.
I grew up here, as did my father. Moved to Mississauga at the age of 12. I am always in the area, went to college around there (Queen and Shaw) and my dad still goes to the Delta sports bar often. Much like Cheers, it’s a place where everyone knows your name. Even though I’ve lived in the suburbs longer, Ossington and Dundas is still my home. So many great memories from my childhood and still making great ones today.
My parents were immigrants from Portugal. I lived on Ossington just north of Dundas until about age 10, from 1979 until 1989. At the time, the area was mostly made up of Portuguese immigrants and businesses, with a gradual shift from working-class immigrant neighbourhood on Dundas to a more wino / hooker area along Queen where the mental hospital was located, 999.

There are a few Portuguese shops still around - and the Venezia bakery is as well.
