    I've been watching your videos since I got my rigid heddle loom 18 months ago. I had just ordered a stand for it, then saw this video. I called my supplier back and added an inkle loom to my order. I finished a practice band in the first 2 days, and warped on for your floral band already! I really appreciate the work you put into making quality videos!

    This was the most relatable intro EVER that hits the hearts of only crafty people. Why yes, yes I do know what it’s like to feel as though my life will not be complete if I do not do (plug in crafty thing) immediately. Lol! I loved this. Subscribed!

      I taught myself searching the web. My first project was very detailed but with a little “turning of the cards”, I brought the underside to the top. Lol
      My only problem, ever...is putting colors together. It doesn’t matter if it is sewing, quilting, weaving, knitting, tatting or crochet. If the colors are not picked for me...my shoulders drop...defeated.
      Your colors are so beautiful! If you make this into a belt, what buckle system (?) would you use.

    I love having a nice tight warp. It makes for a nice even band when completed. I too have an Ashford Inkle Loom. However I have found that when I have a nice tight warp the back upright post twists under the pressure of the tight warp. Making the top back peg slope downwards ever so slightly. Then the warp threads on that peg tend to walk down the peg and fall off the end of it. And then the finished band is curved due to that slight uneven tension caused by that post twisting. It has frustrated me to no end. I have had the two silly feet on the loom replaced with one large foot so I can clamp the entire thing down to my table in front of my recliner. I am now waiting for the loom to come back from the woodworkers shop again. They have added a piece of plywood to the outside of the loom attaching both upright posts and the bottom foot. Hopefully this will solve the twisting upright post problem. I should get it back today. I pray the problem is solved other wise I have wasted so much money for this loom.

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  3 роки тому

      This is strange Nancy, I've never heard of the top peg sloping. I use a pretty tight tension on my Ashford inkle and never had a problem with pegs losing rigidity.
      I wonder, did you ever contact Ashford for advice?

    • @nancyland5238
      @nancyland5238 3 роки тому +1

      @@KellyCasanova No I won't bother. I have chatted with others in my inkle weaving group and several of them have found the same problem. Some have contacted Ashford and they aren't interested in hearing about the problem. I got my loom back this afternoon after having the board installed to reinforce it. And so far it is staying straight. If it starts to bend again My woodworker fellow will add a second board to it. It isn't the peg. It is the rear upright that twists, thereby throwing that peg out of wack.

    Very helpful hints. I do practice for a couple of inches, I also use my hand to separate the weft and make the shed like you.do. I always feel that I am doing something wrong by doing that but now I feel okay.. I like that pattern and the colours. I might try it next. I am self taught. By the way you have the identical loom to me. The first time I have see one. Many look the same but the tension rod is in a different place or there are more or less rods etc.

    Kelly, when warping this pattern, there are alternating colors for 5 threads or so, navy-peacock, navy-peacock, etc. What is your most efficient way to do this, tie off each time or some other strategy?

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  7 місяців тому +1

      I prefer to tie off, I don't like wrangling multiple threads, it never works well for me. The tie off takes a bit of extra time but it works well and helps with great, consistent tension 😊

    Hi Kelly -- I had written a while back asking if when using an inkle loom the warp should be an un-even number of threads or even. You had commented that it really didn't matter. I just warped up my inkle loom (first time. I used to have one about 20 years ago and have forgotten everything!) I first used even number of threads and it seems I have a "floating" warp thread that is not working its way into the band. So I took that one out so I had an un-even number of threads and that seems to have corrected the problem. Could I have just mis-threaded somewhere? Help?? I'm confused. Should I try to keep the number of threads un-even? Thanks, Jill from Oregon

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  3 роки тому +1

      I've warped with both even and uneven threads with no problems. I have had the issue of an edge thread not catching, or floating as you described and it was because it wasn't lifting or lowering into the correct shed. Basically, it was sticking to other threads, not lowering or raising when it should - so that may be something for you to check for too, that threads are not sticking and ending up in the wrong shed.

    I’m going to be getting my first loom very soon and it will be an Inkle Loom. Do you consider 4/8s cotton to be a good beginner weight if yarn for Inkle weaving?

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  4 роки тому +1

      I've only used 8/2 cotton on the inkle, but I've seen others weave bands with 8/4 cotton - the band would be thicker 😊

    Hi Kelly, I'm a big fan of your videos. Thank you so much for all your effort. One little question: What do you think, can one use an Ashford Table Loom for inkle weaving? I tried it today. Unfortunately one can clearly see the weft yarn. Of course, this destroies my pattern. Do have an idea, what I could change? Thank you so much!!!

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  3 роки тому +1

      Inkle weaving is pretty flexible as far as looms go, it's the high tension that is really important. I haven't tried it on a table loom, but I feel like I would struggle to get enough tension on the warp.

      Hi Nadine, the table loom may not be ideal for inkle (2-shaft) weaving but it will work with tablet (4-shaft) weaving. Alternatively, you could use a very fine thread for weft when inkle weaving- that way, your weft will not be so obvious.

    Hi Kelly, I am new to weaving with an inkle loom and was wondering if you could let us know your favorite yarns for this type of weaving? Thanks in advance!

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, definitely!
      My favourite is 8/2 unmercerised cotton. I have also used 8/2 mercerised, which makes a lovely band with a bit of sheen, but is a bit more difficult to handle, it likes to twist up on itself. In a recent band I incorporated some bamboo with the cotton, that came out lovely too.
