- Annie is a dedicated inkle loom weaver with over four decades of experience and loves to share her enthusiasm! Thanks to The Shutter and The Shuttle for filming this video. shutterandshutt...
As a teacher and mentor, she has observed new weavers asking the same set of questions as they first start out. In this video, she demonstrates the basics of warping and answers some of those questions.
Tips include some things that even experienced inkle weavers may not know like:
How to use a quick-release knot to secure the beginning of your threads to the loom while warping
How to change colors as needed with only one knot per color
What is the proper length for heddles and how to test it
What loom makers don't tell you about taking the shortest path and how to prevent the warp from slipping
Also, there is a valuable tip in here for the thing that inkle weavers seem to struggle with the most: getting nice edges! Once you know this, you can eliminate the lumps and bumps forever!

Annie, you have been a great inspiration to me in my weaving journey! I have your book "In Celebration of Plainweave" and have created several of your patterns. I now own 2 inkle looms, one is a "monster" floor loom. Thank you for sharing your art!

It's great to see you on You Tube! I have and love all your books and have been so inspired by your beautiful bands! Thank you for this video, it is very helpful, especially only tying the threads once - now I know I've been doing it correctly!
Thanks for the kind words! There is more than one way to do everything.
👍
Could not see you fingers tying on knots. Then you take one loose and Tye on…to what?
Each color yarn is tied to itself. In the beginning, the warp is tied in a quick-release knot to the front bar of the loom. When that warp color is no longer needed, it is cut off the spool or cone or skein. Then the knot at the front bar is untied, and the beginning and end of that color are tied together.
Thank you, I did learn a lot😊😊😊
I’m new to inkle loom weaving and your tips are extremely helpful. Thank you so much for sharing. 😊
