  • So you want to finish a garage wall? In this video I will show you how to insulate and finish an exterior garage wall. There are many advantages including better temperature control in both the winter and summer months, and sound control. Personally I did it so that I could work on my car in the winter months and also wanted to install some in wall speakers. Keep in mind you don't have to be a pro to do this. The finished job doesnt need to be perfect by any means so don't worry if your not a drywall pro. In fact, if desired you really could not even paint but that's up to you.
To Complete the Job you will need: Insulation, a vapor barrier, drywall, drywall screws, a power drill, and utility knife. Most supplies can be bought at home depot or lowes. Also, I completed this over several weekends.
    Good luck with your project!

Many different designs for each type of project are also included. For example, there are hundreds of designs ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxb2mhCug-GkCWrq69Ce2I0nM0D4QpxAqu for outdoor buildings, from small sheds all the way up to a complete stable. Choose whatever type of shed or storage house is right for you. Pick from fancy ones or more utilitarian designs.

If you used faced batting, why did you put another vapor barrier on top of it? I was taught that using 2 vapor barriers like that is incorrect because moisture / mold will get trapped between them. I’ve always understood that it’s either rigid foam or spray foam and unfaced batting, OR faced batting, OR unfaced batting with a 6 mil plastic vapor barrier installed with acoustical sealant prior to drywall.

Tell me more tips please, I am going to put some insulation this coming weekend, , so you don't need plastic when you use the insulation with the paper face facing to the inside , how about the thickness of drywall, it's for a non attached garage, it's separated from house, , i see some people recommending 5/8 , but how about 1/2 an inch?? Would 1/2 inch be ok for a garage ??

The example you showed of a countersunk screw looks like it tore the paper.... Don't countersink the screws!!! They should be flush but any deeper and you break the paper which means the drywall is going to pull off that screw some day.

  • @digitalpacman

You aren't supposed to break the paper when driving in drywall screws. The paper is what gives stability, not the sheet rock.

I'd recommend using mesh tape instead of paper, I've done so much repairs on the paper stuff, when I remove the loose paper it comes off with no drywall stuck to it, it does not bond to the paper as good as mesh tape, when I remove mesh tape it is a lot more difficult proving that the grab is a lot better

You should not have drove screws in to the point of breaking the paper on the face of the board. You are supposed to use a countersink bit or a drywall clutched screwgun. And you are supposed to hang drywall from the top and work your way to the bottom to prevent gaps. Also if your wall is 9’ you should use 54” board instead of 48”. Unless you’re going to stand it up.

You don't counter sink drywall screws. Only tighten drywall screws to slight dimple in paper without breaking through the paper.
Otherwise you'll get what's called nail pop a few years down the road. To fix if the screw is drive to deep and tears the paper remove the screw and put it up or down from the tear. the hole then can be dimpled with a hammer and filled over with joint compound during the tapping process.

Flat roof with plywood and felt on top. I would like to know if I should just build a timber stud wall (with 2x4) and put PIR insulation boards (making sure I leave at least 10cm gap between insulation boards and wall for air circulation), then board it up? Or should I put (attach using some kind of glue?) a breather membrane all around the inside walls of my shed, and then build stud wall and insulate as I first mentioned?? Please reply, and advice would be much appreciated. Kind regards. Jacobs

Only part i didn't quite understand was the square and lines. You just drew lines down the drywall in a straight line so you would know where to screw?
Also, does spackling have to be done? Can i just slap some wallpaper over the drywall and screwheads and call it a day? lol

    • @CRYPTOSLO_OFFICIAL

certainly, straight line for the screws. For sure, you dont have to do the cosmetic part and paint/spackle

Too deep with those drywall screws! This will cause "nail pop" as they call it. The drywall screws should be flush with the paper. DO NOT do as shown in the video.

Hi, I'm going to be closing up a sunroom that has no insulation at all. I was planning on insulating the 3 walls with r13 but leaving the attic and floor uninsulated. Do you think this will work out ok? I'm going to be using a portable AC-Heater unit that vents to the outside.

    • @CRYPTOSLO_OFFICIAL

Yea, may consider doing the floor in pink styrafoam insulation board. You would be surprised at the difference it will make

    • @NEJoeyG
      @NEJoeyG 5 років тому

Check local codes, probably not needed. There are climates where putting one up will cause you problems. Only do it if it's required and necessary, otherwise you'll be doing it again when you find mold.
