Great video, Living in Tarpon Springs this is how we would often fish for gags, at times we used planers to get the bait down more. Found a many nice spots fishing this method. Mark the spot, check the bottom finder for structure, anchor up and fish frozen sardines to get scent and activity in the water. Catch a small gag or two then fire down a hand sized pin fish and hold on. Not many fish hit harder and fight harder the first few cranks than a 15 pound gag in 30 feet of water.
Yes, we use planers with deep diving Rapala Magnums and Mirror lures. Both probably dive 20 to 30 feet. But I like the lure to bump the bottom, this will trigger strikes. Fishery great as close as 3 to 5 miles offshore about 20 to 30 feet deep. The fisheries even better up by Crystal River although it’s a long run to deeper water. Often the Gags will be caught really shallow (10-20 feet) as long as theres structure and food. If it gets too cold food becomes scarce and they will slide deeper. Water temperature from 60 to 70 ideal. If it gets below 60 bite can get tough…
@@luckystrikelivin I've been damn near crushed by one I had to shatter the clam n my thumb was messed up for a few months never gonna let that happen again
Can I ask you a question? Do you eat fish? unless those fish were out of season, you just tortured me to no life however I love your wife’s attitude towards the game
I got one of those in my hand one time that’s why you need to get them with the net and then pull the hook out with a pair of pliers while they’re laying on the floor in the net holding them like that you’re lucky you didn’t get it in you

If the buoy got cut you might be able to find the trap with your side scan. Then dive for it.

@@thegrouperking only problem is if a fish touches the boat it’s a 10 min fishing penalty! Gotta keep the new onslow bay clean!
