- A new painting today!
So, I have to sadly admit that the lighting in my studio combined with the painting laying flat doesn’t do it justice!
While it is soft and muted, there is a lot of interest and movement!
The importance of creating a focal point is something to pay attention to when creating art that you plan to show in a gallery! If there isn’t much of a focal point the painting can loose interest. Think about where the eyes will land and where they are pulled to. In my paintings it’s around the negative space, but can be a person, a tree, another object depending on the subject!
I enjoy touching up parts of the painting. Years ago I was afraid to touch the final product but trusted my intuition over time and confidence built in making the painting sharper and cleaner.
As a reminder…
My colander paints are all mixed the same..
1 part paint
2-3 parts floetrol
Drizzle of liquitex pouring medium
Water to thin
The black paint is mixed slightly differently…
1 part paint
4-5 parts floetrol
Drizzle of liquitex pouring medium
Water to thin
Remember, these are suggestions and a guide but don’t worry about being completely perfect in measuring. Just make sure all of your consistencies are the same! Don’t be afraid to add water!
Have a great weekend!

I love it! That is a great point that you made about having a focal point. I struggle with that!
Fantastic painting and great advice. It makes it so much easier to see how things are done. Thank you showing us.
And tips on how to work out how much base paint and dump paint, im guessing amounts and either have way too much or not enought.
Thanks again Dwight 😊
This came out really well, I understand how lighting makes such a difference ! Nicely done 😊❣️
Soo beautiful 😍 🤩 👌 ❣️
Superbe💪💪😍
I love how those colors came through. Gorgeous 😍
Thank you! 😊
Do you use paiintt with pouring medium is you clean it up ? Love all your work, Dwight ❤❤
I have tried this technique many times and can not get it. Wonder if my top paint is to thick. How thin was your black? I am determined to get this down. Yours is beautiful. Thanks for tip of adding more color to the cells
Paints all have to be thinned, all the paints are the same consistency. If too thick nothing will happen except a few specks…it’s a process to make sure that you don’t use too much water as well
Do colorful paintings sell faster than neutral paintings?
It depends…the more neutral seems to be more desirable for interior design…color is fine but something more monochromatic than bright is more appealing
