Any debate going on rn?? Newton vs Einstein

    • @lukestevans5110

Newton built the foundation, but Einstein shattered its limitations and reshaped our understanding of reality itself. Einstein all the way.

In opticks, published by Newton in1704 there are two queries raised by Newton
1- Do not bodies act upon light at a distance and by their action bend in rays?
2- Are not gross bodies and light convertible into one another?
He raised the question ages before Einstein about the gravitational bending of light and equivalence of mass and energy. And on this basis Einstein built his empire of theory of relativity. Newton is the absolute undisputed for sure

In 1686, Halley, the physicist after whom the 'Halley's comet' is known, put a question to Newton which was puzzling him for a long time-"What would be the curve described by the planets on the supposition that gravity diminishes as the square of the distance?" Newton answered immediately- "An ellipse." Struck with joy and amazement, Halley asked him how he knew that. "Why," said Newton, "I have calculated it." Not guessed, or surmised, or conjectured, but calculated! Halley wanted to see the calculations at once, but Newton was unable to find the papers. The solver hadn't bothered to tell anybody and had even lost his notes. Newton promised to write down the theorems and proofs again and send them to Halley, which he did. This proves that Newton kept his monumental discoveries to himself. He had no itch to publish and most of his great works had to be dragged out of him by the cajolery and persistence of his friends.

In 1693, Newton suffered a severe mental illness accompanied by delusions and fears of persecution. But his friends responded with crucial concern and wise humanity, and the crisis passed. In 1696, he left Cambridge for London and during remainder of his long life, he entered a little into society. These changes in his interests and surroundings didn't bring any decrease in his unrivaled intellectual powers. For example-
Late one afternoon, he learned of a new famous problem that the Swiss mathematician John Bernoulli had posed as a challenge " to the most acute mathmaticians of the entire world." The problem was-"Suppose two nails are driven at random into a wall, and let the upper nail be connected to the lower by a wire in the shape of a smooth curve. What is the shape of the wire down which a bead will slide (w/o friction) under the influence of gravityso as to pass from the upper nail to the lower in the least possible time?" This is Bernoullis' brachistochrone ('short time') problem. In spite of being out of the habit of scientific thought, he summoned his resourcesand solved it that evening before going to bed. His solution was published anonymously, and when Bernoulli saw it, he wryly remarked, " I recognize the lion by his claw."

There is not much time for Magnus to maintain as #1 as Gukesh is slowly maturing and improving. If Magnus challenge Gukesh to an unofficial match next year, the chance of winning could be only 50-50. Gukesh will be the new dominance for the next 10 years.

Why are there so many Indian players in the same tournament? They can give easy wins to each other. Just like Soviet players cooperated in major tournaments during Cold War chess era.
I guess in the last round Erigaisi will just loose to make Gukesh champion.

Featured chats. Maybe I'm in a minority on this but I turn off main chat for a reason - I don't like being subjected to the random thoughts of random people. No offense. I watch the games and listen to the commentary, but seemingly every 30 seconds I get 'assaulted' by "Go Gukesh!" or "They should force en passant as a rule", or some other inanity, and it just feels intrusive and unnecessary. It greatly reduces the enjoyment for me.

Please bring Danya or Hess for commentry. Howell kills the excitement of the game with his monotonous tone & long pauses.
