    Ok thank you for making this. I play the highland pipes and my instructor has been on me for yeeaaarrrsss to record my daily practice. I finally broke down and got something, this model. I’m still watching videos and learning how to use this. I won’t be doing any editing. Probably just recording 4 of my competition tunes daily. Then maybe loading them on to my PC. Thank you for the video

    Thank you for making this! Shaney are the biggest problem - but putting the recorder in front of the feedback monitor like you said seems to work best in those situations. Looking forward to the editing/post-production tutorial!

    Just ran across your video - it was very useful for me despite the fact that I have a quite different use case (never ever heard about "Keertan" until today - I obviously need to take a more in-depth look at this to close my cultural knowledge gap). However, I got my H2n recently and want to use it for voiceover and/or podcasting like recordings. For mono I use the MS mode by switching the side mics off completely - and then talk into the backside off the device. If I want to give it a little "room" I use XY for stereo and a clear focus on the voice talking into the mic. Works all perfectly fine to this point. The only thing I'm struggling with is the 'gain'. Your advice is to set the level so that the recording is in the area between -12 to -6 db. Talking with normal loudness and a distance of about one feet / 30 centimeters with gain of 8 I end up between -18 and -12. To get to -6 I have set the gain to the maximum of 10 or talk directly into the device (gain 8 but with a distance of only about 5cm). Do you observe the same behavior on your device? Any advice?!? Or is there maybe just something wrong with my own Zoom recorder?

      nmbr73 Hey! Thanks for the lovely comment. Very respectful and happy you are looking into Keertan! Check out @basicsofsikhi youtube channel. They have simple videos in English on Sikhism (for educating) and lots of Keertan too!
      In terms of gain, the Keertan I'm recording is very loud. Not only are there hundreds of people singing, there are speaker systems also feeding back to the h2n. So I'd say what you're experiencing is quite normal. I'd say stick to a gain of 8 and as long as you record WAV you can increase in editing phase and get the volume out you need without any issues. Looking forward though, the h2n isn't the best for voice. You may be better off getting a lavalier mic and plugging it into the h2n (unless you need atmosphere). All the best!

    • @OfficialNerdSingh

      @@OfficialNerdSingh ok this is how I have it set up and why, I have have zoom h2n because its a great mic on its own and it has great control features like the on the fly gain, and I also have the movo xr10 pro, also great, BUT I thought, if, I connect the movo to the zoom I could control the gain on the movo FROM the zoom going into my galaxy note 9 when video recording. I found that although I can hear sound from both mics when I play back a recording that gain was not controlling the movo. SETUP movo line out to zoom line in using TRS TO TRS, zoom line out to smartphone headphone jack in, using TRS TO TRRS END INTO smartphone, SO! I have tried just about everything I can this of running tests, But I think that the gain on the zoom itself its not designed to control the line out. Its just to control the onboard sensitivity only, but I'm going to run another test before I call it.

    • @OfficialNerdSingh

      Better option is multi track recording so you are recording mics and atmosphere. This is expensive setup and complicated so another option is to just lavalier mic on Kirtani or a boom mic on camera that has more of a omnidirectional polar pattern (basically only capturing what is in front of it), e.g. Video mic pro +. But even still if shanay are loud you will have problem! Is there a special setup that needs to be applied in order for the device to be able to capture the sound from the added mic, or it is all automatically pre-set? Stuart, Jr Barrett three things pop to my mind.
      - Settings aren't right for what you're trying to do
      - cable is faulty
      - this isn't the best mic as an external mic so what you are hearing might just be atmospheric noise. Might be better to record separately, move the mic much closer to the sound source and sync in post editing. All the best.

    Does the H2N also have an option to record mono??

      Boi Mesa Yes, it is possible. In MS stereo mode, set the SIDE MIC LEVEL to OFF. This allows you to record in mono, which is suitable for capturing interviews and narrations. This recorder, however, cannot create mono files. For further information, please see page 22 of the operation manual.

    Does anybody know if the sound quality on the Zoom Q2N-4K is similar or the same as this? I want this so bad, but the Q2N has a camera plus great sound quality, and it's basically the same, but I'm hesitating because the sound is very important to me too, because I'm a musician who wants to record my own voice and nature samples? Anybody have any feedback on this, or what you think?...SBN RESONATE

    How do I get to record button to work?

    • @OfficialNerdSingh
      @OfficialNerdSingh  2 роки тому

      You might have the lock switch on? It's the same slider as the power button just make sure that's not selected and the record button will work.

    Background music is very distracting, other than that, a very good presentation.
