I think this is GREAT ! After I got out of the US Navy in 1971 and watched the movie "Easy Rider" I bought a 1968 FLH Electra Glide." I was obsessed to tear it down and make a bike like Peter Fonda rode in the movie. About a year later I got married, had a kid, and I went back to college. Needless to say I had to sell my "dream bike" .....
SO I am very anxious to see you guys build this beauty. If you get it tuned right and master the idiosyncrasy of those engines ....kick starting it will not be a problem. Really looking forward to this build !!!!.
Just finished a 54 last spring, needed new flywheels and everything else, some of the cobble work found in the engine and transmission totally shocked me, when I was done it fired third kick, person I built it for rode it to Sturgis last year, 3,800 mile round trip, said he had no problems, doesn't leak any oil. it was very close to stock.
For the silly money that vintage Harleys go for nowadays, you could go and buy a replica knucklehead motor from S&S and build a bike from there cheaper than you could buy one from an auction. If you really want a vintage Harley there is a company in Denmark that makes the w l a 750 Flathead brand new as a kit or a fully assembled motorcycle. Lots of people especially in the Eastern European countries still use and let's not forget they used to build copies of the Harley Flathead Motors before World War two. In both Russia and Poland they built copies of Harley Flathead and put them in copies of BMW frames. Old bikes and other vehicles do not have to pass an mot every year and their insurance cost is extremely reasonable compared to a modern vehicle.
It shows my age, I guess, but I'd be completely stoked to find myself the owner of a panhead. They're so into the newer bikes that they don't seem to know where a Panhead fits in. The young dude acted like he just found a turd under the Christmas tree.
Looks like a good plan to go Captain America with it (I'm more of the Billy Bike type). Have fun with it, guys, you have a gem to polish.
Man so proud of you and all you and your crew’s accomplishments, can’t wait to see what y’all do.
The joys of owning a shop when your own stuff gets neglected. I know it too well.
My first Harley was a ‘62 Pan. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. If that frame is a HD, it’s a ‘57 or earlier as a ‘58 and later were swing arms.
You're absolutely right, my first was a '58 Duo Glide, first year of the swing arm
Hell yeah! Is like learning to work on your first car! No idea how to do it, but start taking things apart and buying parts! Let's go!
I have a 1959 BSA 250 C15 with a later Barracuda 250 motor in it. Daily Rider until my drunken mechanic ruined the motor. It's making the noise of death Frank but it's not my fault. Wasn't doing that before I brought the bike at the shop. It seized up tighter than a drum.
Now that's a nice old school Panhead Chopper I thought maybe it was going to be an old stock Panhead but that looks good. When I come across a bike like that that looks as good as that I don't try to haggle over the price. That bike is in beautiful shape I wouldn't mind having it. All of my vintage bikes are kick-start only like that. Between the starter and the battery adding useless weight as well as butchering the stock frame to accommodate some Harley ruins the handling of the bike
Nothing stupid about the Panhead. I'd still be riding my 56 Panhead chopper if I could. Left it in California when I came home. I have 3 Harleys but I still that old Pan. Coolest bike I ever had.
That bike is the same age as me, born in 1960! Basically you take the engine out, put it in a rigid chopper frame and go from there...easy!! 😎
Are you talking the bike or you? 😅
@@FishFace13 🤣
Sick bike! Can’t wait to see what you do with it!
Yes this is a proper frame for a chopper build IMHO
Engines in motorcycles can be like the jewel of the bike. I think the knucklehead exemplifies that. I like the pan head's too. I lean more towards the knucklehead because of the unique shape of the rocker cover. Gonna be cool no matter what.
Shadetree has a chopper, Chey is building a chopper, and Weems is collaborating with you for a sportster build
Y'all are a David Mann painting waiting to happen
Can't wait to see what the panhead will turn into
I would put a sugar bear fork on it!
I’m responding before finishing the video- but if that frame is original, it’s worth a ton. Really adds value
I stopped at the victory shop when they were around and someone traded in a beautiful 1960 stock Panhead dresser with 20000 original miles. I don't remember what they wanted for it it was in my price range so so it could not have been too expensive. They told me flat out that they would not serviced it because it was too old. I pointed out to my Triumph and said it's only a couple years older than my Triumph. Somebody bought it and I hope they gave it a good home.
Love to see how it makes out. The ol Pan to me is the bike of all bikes. Best of luck and enjoy the build.
Look forward to seeing the progress you make with this part of history!!!
If you can work on an EVO you can work on a panhead. Parts in some cases may be a challenge though.
Great to watch u go ...
old school stuff.
I had a stock '57 Pan it was black with pepper red panels. Last year rigid. She rode like a dream.
That bike is dope af, here's hoping you don't end up needing an oil pump, my papa has been rebuilding a 1950 pan head and he hasn't been able to find a replacement oil pump anywhere!
Outstanding! My first ride Ever on a motorcycle was a Brand New 1960, Red over White, (I think) Electroglide. I was 8 years old. Anticipation!!!
Gonna need to hire another guy to work on customer motorcycles while Chris and you do all the special projects that have managed to make its way in the shop lol.
I kept hearing him say that frame, etc was stock. Unless he means it was stock for 57 or older, he doesn't know what he's talking about!! The only way that frame is a 60 is if someone welded on a hardball. 1958 and.up Panheads were swingarm
They were called DuoGlides from "58 till 64 (Indecatin g
Swingarm and wide glide fronte d. In '65, the last year Pan was the 1st yr ElectroGlide (1st electric start) from 49 until 56 they were HydroGlide indicating ridged frame and glide front. The '48 (1st year Pan ) didn't have a name as it was ridged frame and last springer front-end (unless you ordered a sidecar with your '49, then you still got springer. I have no idea what you paid for it but if it was what we'd call reasonable, wish you'd left it for a Panhead Man!!
Awesome nothing sounds like a good olé pan! Miss my 58 wish still had it! look forward to seeing the finished product!
I had a 1960 panhead with a pacho frame and a hinge rear fender, nice stuff. I like yours the way it is.
Congrats on the new scoot. Definitely a new experience when working on older bikes.
Blockhead , you're not dumb, impulsive maybe, but not dumb. Great bike, drum brakes, points-&-condensers. Those were the days (okay, I was 10 years old but I still looked up every time I heard a motorcycle, which wasn't often). Here's an idea, everybody does the Captain America bike from Easy Rider, why not use this to recreate Billy's bike from the movie? Billy's bike was much more practical, easier to ride, and cooler looking. What ever you decide I'll be watching. Ride on.
Definitely following this, Love the old pan heads.
I honestly miss the customer bike content. I hope to one day bring my bike in and be featured on the channel.
This is so sick! Cannot wait to see what you do to transform it!
I have a '56 Pan, That I need to finish building myself. Can't wait to see what you do with yours!
Old bikes are cool. Sometimes changeling but always worth it 👌
Can't wait to see the progress! Beautiful bike!
Hell yes! I’ve been getting into old school chopper shit lately so it’s perfect timing
Chris is happy to no longer be the oldest thing in the shop anymore.
Hell yeah dude , i freaking love them old bikes.looking forward to seeing the build 👍
one day gotta make it to daves wheels through time, tons of VERY old harley stuff even generators, Also I knew right from when the show montage started and saw the wires under the seat that it would be a headache
Just to show there are still good old running bikes undiscovered
That was fun 🤩 sick bike.
I literally belly laughed when you said a one kicker. Great project bike though. Cant wait to see what you do with it.
Would love to have an ol Panhead!
Utility knife, flash light, and fighting knife on your sunvisor...what a bad ass!
This is gonna be a fun learning experience for you and us!
Oh man, this gives me bad ideas. I don't need another bike, I don't need another bike.
I remember in the 80s my dad had the 70s easyriders magazines. I think that's where it all started
I grew up with bikes like this one, so it's nothing real big to me, but make it in the style of Indian Larry and I'm stoked. It's Old School cool no doubt.
Where did you find that diagram of all the different engines? Would love to know. Love the channel! Thanks!
Back around 88 or so I saw an add in the Houston Chronicle for an early shovel for sale, back then a solid bike went for 3k or so. I called the guy and asked one question for his three, he ultimately was a pretty pissed guy, he was a member of an old Spanish club that rolled over some years before. He didn't go and I didn't even get to look at the bike. I met him later, he was a serious holdout to the old days. Back when guys had more experience than tattoos. Back when I was a kid if a guy was wearing a wide black bandana he either just killed somebody or was fixing to
I think this bike is going to look great I can't wait to see how it turns out, exited 😄✌🏾
Looks good Block. Can’t wait to see how this turns out.
One kicker? Ha! Nearly fell off the chair. Hope for your sake, but I’m guessing in your hot Florida weather there’s the chance of losing a pound in sweat before it sparks up. Good luck with this, if anyone can do this, Chris can! G’luck.
I thought it was going to be the one I just get detailed. Can't wait to see that one. One lucky sob lol. Find all the good ones
So is that the frame that was getting chopped for a hardtail?
That looks great, wish I had the money and time to properly make her an daily rider.
Of all the Harley's the pan is my favorite. I just tried to trade a tc cvo for a pan head that was almost a basket case and was turned down.
Bad Ass!! Can't wait to see what you do with it!!!
Given the opportunity and finances, I would have snatched that up right away! I too do some dumb $hit from time to time. I think a period chopper build is just the thing to do. That, or a GO FAST bobber/Drag inspired, period-ish build. (more likely for me...)
Love you got a panhesd. They are great old bikes to ride.
That is BEAUTIFUL!!! Except for the goofy ass double headlights and that wide-ass seats. I'm looking forward to what you do, but man a proper bobber would be awesome. The Capt. America Chopper is so worn out and cliche.
Looks cool, will be great to see what you do with it.
Cool project Looking forward to seeing what you guys do with it
This things is sick. It’s SCREAMING out for a springer
Go full brushed raw finish with engraved accents and maybe some brass inlays.
Can't have a raked chopper with out a Pan Head, that's the law of the land lol. Sweet scoot will be following
That bike is bad ass! Wow!
Cool old BEAST looking forward to the transformation .👍👍👍🇦🇺
Your going to love it nothing sounds as good as a panhead its cool that seat would go get some ideas from david mann painting how you want it to look king and queen for sure tall sissy bar 👍
Beautiful bike can't wait to see the build
Peanut tank, slimmer two up seat and smaller dual headlights. Done
Always better to beg forgiveness than ask permission
New bikes with OBD and OBD 2 much easier to work on. Vintage bikes are vintage headaches.
What brand is your cap? Looks Nice!
It's nice and Chris can turn it into a really cool bike. If he can find the time?
Would you devote some footage on your tattoos and some of the history behind them?
This will fun to watch for sure.
Yo Blockhead, I have always been a Huge Fan of the Panhead. It will be an Awesome Chopper. I could definitely feel the love in the room from Chris.🤣🤣🤣🤔 You Meet the Nicest People on a Honda Valkyrie. Keep the Shiny Side Up.
I’m so excited how this beauty turn out!!!
My wild beard man!! Respect!
Sad that it's Not an Original Pan, it's still a cool bike but would have been cooler if it was an untouched FLF, or FLHF.
thats funny i no zero about m8 twin cams almost zero a little about EVO thats becouse they share alot with 74 dresser s /flatheads HAPPY TRAILS
What's the gold tool thing on the sun visor?
going to be itching daily to see progress on this
That motor would be great in a soft tail frame.
Love the pan, can’t wait to see the result 👍
Loving Justin’s shirt. We live in Gruene.
Someone should remind Chris tha deals like this are few and far in between. So you gotta jump on em
What year's that frame?
9:30 -First time I did my own service, my hand slipped and got sliced open. Shit happens lol?
Not the original frame. 1960 was a swing arm frame, first introduced in 1958. Dual glide,
Now that ya got it,wanna sell or trade it? Awesome find!!!
As a Service Writer for a H-D Dealer in New Zealand I feel their pain 😂
WOW! She's beautiful!! ♥️ What did ya wind up getting her for? Ballpark figure?

Nice clean bike.
