- This mission takes place inside the pyramid. Mario must go up in the pyramid to find five spots marked by a Coin. Two of these spots are platforms near to a sand duct, below the third Power Star was found. Following the sand path, other three spots are located in a duct where the sand moves to the sand pit of the first floor. If Mario manages to take the coins of each spot, the Star appears at the end of the sand duct.

I think the emphasis on this level was the angles and what the console was capable of at the time

Replaying Mario 64 on Switch, I’ve noticed the camera in general is what has aged the worst but other then that the game is still great.

@@nickgreatpwrful5754 even sonic adventure and crash 2 are better, and they have a problem when turning around due to having mostly fixed to fixed camera and being designed towards the screen as mostly linear levels. But being linear avoids the bigger issues of early 3d camera. Also sa1 sonic controls better than 64 mario, the floatier jump makes platforming much easier.
Stars like this make me appreciate the DS version, that removed most of these secret missions, in favour of the MUCH more enjoyable Silver Star mission!

I'm doing this mission right now, and I only need one more secret coin to get, but the camera angles make it frustrating to get without falling to the bottom.

Tip: use the sand fall thingy to determine where to jump. The 2nd coin is just left of the sand fall, and the 3rd coin is just right of it.

I actually just managed this star in one go O_O Without losing any lives...somehow I fell 3 times by accident and landed on one of the platforms with a coins each time XD

If you stand on all 4 pillars and enter the pyramid through the top, it brings you right to where the 5 coins are. For me the third lowest coin was murderous. If you do it this way, all you have to do is jump off the elevator directly at the third coin, it’s very easy to do. Then after that I just double backed, went back up top to get the other 2.....Someone said backflipping works though so maybe that’s the easiest way. Either way, it was very gratifying outsmarting the game
Whenever I need help beating Mario 64 in 3D all-stars, I turn to your Mario 64 videos.
They replaced the coins with silver stars in SM64DS to make things easier to understand. Smart.

This level is really fun to play but the so called "angles" and one shot quick sand are what makes this level one of the levels players most hate
If you triple jump at the ground under the pole, it's a lot easier.

An okay tutorial. Helped me figure that out after scavenging the Pyramid. Did you do the whole 120 thing in a single setting? If so I'd imagine you wanted to break Mario's little mustache face by the end of it XD

Honestly shifting sand land is the worst level in super Mario 64 I wonder how this got approved
@Eli Marshall for starters you cant traverse the level on surface due to all the quicksand, the red coin level makes you use the absolutely aids wing cap, in pyramids you cant control the camera well, the shity bird that takes your hat, the red coin that is behind your spawn that if you dont look behind you will most likely not be found, its just cancer

There’s a level called wet dry world I don’t know if you guys know it exists but it’s way worse than shifting

I could not land on third platform for my life, after about a hundred try’s I figured out that backflipping off each one is the easiest way, first play through of this game btw, on n64
OMG DUDE YOU JUST SAVED ME FROM LOSING IT!! I’ve never been able to do that level (barely even got this far into the game to do it) and I used the backflips like you said and finally did it!! It’s been driving me crazy trying to get this one probably since the first lockdown. THANK YOU !!!

I watched this video or one like this one when I was a child and I was mesmerized but didn't know what the game was so this is nice.
thanks but 1 problem how do you use the camera on a emulator cuz if i try to use the camera i end up walking off..
You don't move the camera controls up and down. The camera controls are:
C left - rotate left
C right - rotate right
C up - zoom in
C down - zoom out
where there are three levels of zoom - far, regular, and right behind his head.
R - change camera mode between Lakitu and Mario or Lakitu and Stationary depending on the start menu option.
This took me an hour and a half lol. Strictly from not being able to see anything, after getting the star I didn't get it the first time on the conveyer belt either and almost died in the quick sand lol.
By far the worst level in 64 just because of the camera angles it shouldve been tested more

I lost my hat today thinking I was gonna get it back because it never happened I hit bird and it land just on the bottom of the pillar just blending in with it so close to where auto kill sand was. Incredibly pissed that it stayed there lol

Ive played this game on n64 a lomg time ago now i have it on my wii
What is like to play on wii for it.
MrGamingZone there’s less framerate drops, a bit more input lag, and the video is a bit fuzzier (its 480i instead of 240p if you understand). The big benefit is obviously getting to use a gamecube controller because of VC.
Now I have it on my switch
@@berrycool3433 it is possible to play this game on nearly every device that came out after the n64 if necessary actions are taken. The game has been officially released for n64, wii, wii u, and switch recently. But you could mod other consoles that aren't even nintendo and play the game on it. You could even play it on your phone if you want to
@@MrGamingZone sorry for the late reply. As the other person replied, the game would look somewhat fuzzier, and a sort of delayed functionality (not that noticable). As for controllers, i use the wiimote nunchuck, which makes it a lot more difficult. The jump button is A, of course, and the interact button (talking to npcs, hitting and diving) is the + button. The other controlls are symmetric to the n64s. It only becomes harder on a wii mote because the A and + buttons are not easy to use simultaneously, so it needs some getting used to. The good part is as the other person said is that u can use a gamecube controller, and/or use an emulating service that allows for other controllers on the wii
