“ I am not trying to copy him “ your body movement as you play is copied and pasted from his cover (easily can be seen at 1:35) , even your drum set up is the same as his except you arent endorsed by Soultone Cymbals or have any of his recording equipment which Im quite sure you would have bought if you knew the exact same products. You can even tell the camera man was instructed through watching Matt’s covers...
All you did in here was making a clone cover for his original art.
Dont get me wrong on this, the point of the comment is not to criticize you as a drummer or anything, on the contrary... Matt’s style is extremely hard to master not mentioning learning the exact strokes in each fill etc.. (especially in this cover) not even talking about the push and pull technique which isnt what you used there but ehh ok.. My point is that as a drummer theres no problem with taking inspiration from others and use it to perfect your own style.. but what youre doing is being a Matt McGuire copycat which isnt gonna get you anywhere professionally
. Take notes from his style, watch his covers, and slightly add them to your foundation and dont try to overwrite on what already exists.. you have great potential as a drummer , just your mindset isnt quite there yet.

hes right...... the way Matt plays.....out of this world...... you need to enjoy YOURSELF more....... i know what it feels like to nail down a certain Matt Mcguire pattern........ but it always looked different...... he shows a lot of energy and control with his movements........ but without effort....... dont let the effort over power the enjoyment you have when you play.......think about the way you move around rather than thinking about patterns you have stuck in your head...... when you comfortably have every pattern you know in your head, let them flow and dont focus too much on the pattern but focus on enjoying the song
