Great Adventure! Follow the Iron Ore train into the Mauritanian desert with our expedition truck
The Iron Ore Train in Mauritania; a 3 kilometer long train that carries tons of iron ore through the Sahara Desert. The train that has rightly claimed the title "The Serpent of the Desert" started its journey at the Zouerat mines, a Mauritanian city in the middle of the Sahara, and ended after 700+ kilometers in Nouadhibou, on the northwest coast.
With our Expedition Truck we follow the line straight into the desert. A harsh and extreme climate. Hot, dusty and very dry. A great adventure for men/women and machine. Only with enough preparation you should do this journey. If you get stuck with your vehicle you should be able to repair it. Take enough food and lots, and lots of water with you.
We had a great time with our travel friends Tanja, Erik and Jutta and Thilo. With a lot of determination we conquered the route without any problem. Low tier pressure and enough speed gives you the right ritme to overcome the sand dunes.
We use a 12-ton MAN HX60 Expedition Truck, complete with our custom-built living unit. Our truck measures 7.8 meters long, 2.5 meters wide, and 3.65 meters high. Want to know how to build something like this? We have a website with all the information. www.lismarq.co...
