People have no understanding on firefighting. Towing it to the ramp was the right call. Other boats were not in danger. They were not going to dock it next to a boat. They needed to get it out from the middle of a lake where if it goes down it is a larger environmental hazard, as well as can be a navigational hazard. Notice how all the oil, fuel and foam STAYED around the boat? It’s easier to clean that up by putting absorbent runners in a smaller area, than it is to just let it float away with the currant when it’s not in a cove. You also have to understand they can NOT just flood the boat with water to put out the fire. You do realize that the more water that is in a boat, the faster it sinks right? It’s not like they can bail it out when it’s on fire and there is no pump working on the boat anymore. Those monitors on the fire boats can sink that boat in a couple of minutes if they wanted. They entire point was to contain it enough so it would not burn out and sink there and then get it to a ramp so it can be removed before it sinks. Nothing would have happened to anything at the dock, there was not enough fire left for that to happen. They just didn’t want to flood the entire back end of the boat when it was already that low in the water. But it ended up taking on water anyway. Once it was close enough to the ramp, they could have just used a fire extinguisher to put out the rest. You can put out a 30x30 lake of fuel on fire with a 10 pound fire extinguisher. From where it ended up going down, all they need to do is use a tow truck to pull it up to a trailer. It’s a lot better than it sinking in an area where it may require divers and a barge to get it up, all the while everything is washing away with the currant.

Easier to retrieve it for fire investigation; insurance fraud, arson, owner liability, etc.
