I have always fought a cupped wrist position at the top of my backswing. I never realized that my setup was causing my cupped wrist. I did what you suggested, and hit much more consistent iron shots. Thank you.
I used this swing thought for the first time on my last round of golf. I hit 2 small buckets on the practice range to basically warm up before my round. Then I went to the #1 tee and used this preset routine for all 18 holes and I was blown away on how this one adjustment made me hit the ball very solid. I made 2 birdies and shot 5 strokes lower than my average score. I will try this again on my next round. I am looking forward to see if it works again.
No. It all depends on the grip. If you have your logo facing all the way up that’s a cupped wrist position. You want ur logo facing more towards the target.
Can't wait to try your setup 'trick'. I cup my wrist at the top with my driver and sometimes fairway wood. I think of it as a yip and use a number of swing distractions to stop doing it. I've become an expert at stopping the downswing when I feel that 'over-the-top' position and then I'll go to a handful of distraction techniques to hit the ball straight. I have the real training device so won't have to use a hanger but I'll give that a go first. Thanks for addressing this problem so well.
Thank you so much for a great lesson. I’ve always had problems from trying to hinge in backswing and then manipulating wrist to make it flat at top of backswing. Great advice re aiming glove logo up and away.
Thank you! I will give this a try. I am struggling right now with a cupped wrist at the top of my backswing that leads to a shank-like hit off the tee. This is absolutely a round wrecker because I continue to struggle with it for the next couple of shots or I over correct and bow the wrist which leads to a hook! 😩 This sounds like it may help me. Thanks again!
I find that keeping my lead ( left ) wrist bowed thru impact, a difficult thing to do, so maybe by starting with the correct wrist position at takeaway will help...thanks much for another great video.............
Thanks. I find all your videos get straight to the point with easy to understand concepts. I do have a problem bending my right wrist backwards to ensure my left wrist is at least straight after an injury but I'll try this out.
I have the Watson hanger is my favourite training aid. Expensive for what it is but always found a plastic coat hanger feels awkward to grip.

Great video and drill. What I find is I keep a flat wrist during my backswing up until I last bit when I raise my arms or start the downswing, that’s when I cup. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?
Game changer! It’s much easier to hold a position that’s already there at set up rather than trying to actively bow your wrist as you take the club away. Set it and forget it!
Interesting observation that removing the cup at address will prevent it from happening at the top as long as you aren't vertically hinging the wrists. What is your opinion of using a slightly weaker grip to remove the bow at address rather than using a forward press?
J your tip has definitely helped me hit golf shots more solid. Unfortunately, I tend to hit a lot of shots left with the flat left wrist. What adjustments should I make to hit golf shots straight on a consistent basis? Thank you for your great videos!
Maybe your irons are not correct for you and are too flat making the toe strike 1st opening the face ( if you are a left handed golfer that is ) polar opposite if you are right handed golfer. The lie could be to upright pulling the ball. Try a range with the fake grass mats and see if the stains on the irons are either inside heel. I had same issue left ( I am left handed golfer ) my clubs were to flat for me which cause me to toe the club face creating the left push.
I have the hanger training aid, I just really feel uncomfortable with anything between my hands and the grip, even alignment stick drill where you hold onto it. It's expensive for a piece of plastic but it works well.
I’m struggling with the takeaway concept at the minute. I’ve really drilled in a more ‘closed’ face takeaway, but when I do that if I keep that wrist angle and move to the top, the clubface is wide open and wrists are cupped. If I I gradually flatten the wrists during takeaway and up to the top, that would look on camera as if I keep the clubface open during takeaway, but the wrist is perfectly flat and clubface perfect at top. Anyone else not understand this. Try at home and see what I mean ,
Felt this at the range last time I went. I was amazed at how effortless the swing felt when keeping my wrists flat or slightly bowed. Finally realized how bad I cup at the top of the backswing, which causes me to come over the top with an open face.. two things you don't want. As soon as I exaggerated and made myself feel like I was bowing my wrist, I literally could not come over the top, and I also finally got my face square. This simple move made everything in my downswing butter smooth. Feels to me like I'm turning the top of my wrist toward the floor or "twisting a door knob".
I seem to find a lot of opinion that the left wrist should be slightly (key word) cupped at address, and that a "forward press" (taking the cup out) at address is not a very good idea. Can you comment, as there are variant opinions?
So I decided to try this today after watching some different swings on the range and holy shit I was hitting the middle of the driver more than I have in my last 4 or 5 rounds combined
Not setting my wrist correctly at the top of my swing was the main issue I had the whole time and I didn’t even know it till recently even though I have been playing golf on and off for 15 years lol.. the whole time I was concentrating on other stupid things which led me to watch all the wrong videos 😂.. if only I made that aha moment with my wrist years ago I would have been a scratch by now..

No
did it work again?
Old-school drills are probably the most effective ones for most. Thanks.

Many thanks for this - just using the pre set bow I just went round in 2 under my HC without even practicing it. Great suggestions.
Weak Grip or Neutral Grip...
Would you use this same technique with a driver? I thought with a driver you don't press your hands forward.
After 2-3 solid videos in a row from you... I'm subscribing like it's hot! Lol cheers from Seattle!
Appreciate if Kyle! Glad to have you aboard 🤙🏻

Thanks David! I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos! Absolutely, give it a go 🤙🏻
This is great - I have a strong 3 knuckle grip and, straight away (using this) I've figured out how to avoid the cupped wrist I sometimes end up with.
When you setup properly do you still have the V’s in your grip pointing to the right shoulder?
Thank you! Do you have a similar drill for the driver? Or would you say do the same thing?
Same thing 👍🏼

Hi, won't leaning the club forward at setup create a more open club face?
Lean it then grip it
@@jchowngolf Thanks With the Driver too?

I'm wondering how this crosses over to the driver also.
Did you find out anywhere else?
Looking forward to trying this out later on👍
Amazing functional applicable lesson!

Very valuable insights. Will try. Thank you so much.
How can I apply this to a driver ? Or do I just get the feel with the coat hanger and an iron and then it transfers to driver?
Should help with my tendency of lifting arms to top. Any additional ideas?
This and maintaining tempo have been the things that have broken me out of my plateau lately
Fantastic lesson this is. Thanks

Great tips to know and cures to correct faults!! Thanks :-)
Very good video, I think if you can take as much variables as possible in the golf swing you can create more consistency, just ask Bryson 😂
Thanks bud! Absolutely, Bryson is all about having less moving parts. The less variables, the easier it will be do maintain
Is this why I have high lofts even with 4-5 irons? Also listing distance on every club

Thank you, i cubbed alot and got my wrist injured. Thanks for the tip.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Good instruction on this aspect of the swing - thank you.
Is this why some golfers use pushing the club slightly forward as a trigger in their swing? To banish the cupped wrist?
Amazing video. Helped me a lot
Class I have had a break and come back struggling from the tee
This is the video more amatuer golfers need to watch
One of the best videos n drills for bowed wrist. Easy to understand n use. Thanks

I was wondering with the driver as well?
I like preset move👍
I find it hard to release when i bow my wrist. Please help
Excellent! Thank you!
I’m glad you liked it Craig!
Advice for this for people who grip it strong?
Definitely don’t bow your left wrist with a strong grip
So I decided to try this today after watching some different swings on the range and holy shit I was hitting the middle of the driver more than I have in my last 4 or 5 rounds combined
Trying the bowed wrist has always made me hook the ball because I feel like I’m closing the club face at the top of my swing when I bow my wrist
What if my “right spot on the grip” happens to be strong?
very good video !
In my era of golf instruction it was a big no no for the grip to point outside of the target line. Just an observation rather than a criticism.
It definitely used to be, much like keeping the trail leg flexed used to be common instruction 😬
I have a cupped wrist at the top but my miss is a hook... What gives

Flattened my wrist, now need to flatten the plane
😁👍
Thanks Milorad 🤙🏻
You can have a strong left and still have a flat wrist
I love you
