    Did they ever care about the rule of law? In their eyes it seems the law only applies to us peasants, and breaking the law (even if in a limited and specific way) is fine for them provided they benefit either politically or financially from it.

    The ECHR is not a “foreign” court. It is an international court, of which we are a full member, that we help to run through our British representation on it. The law, any law, is simply the brick wall of reality, which you may not like but which you cannot simply wish away.

    The Tories were happy to be “the party of law and order” when the law was mainly enforced to maintain the property and safety of richest in society. Where facets of law now focus on concepts like equality and human rights, this is not as palatable. So now they are trying to undo these new laws, or ignore them totally. They need to convince the proles that this in their own interests, they hope to do it by appealing to bigotry and fear. With the power and reach of the right-wing media, they may yet do it.

    The rule of law is only relevant when it is beneficial or needed by those who r in power.. Always hv been such and always will be. Its not an uniquely any one country but since time immemorial universally.

    • @peterbarry4112
      @peterbarry4112 10 місяців тому

      The concept of the rule of law is that no one is above the law. It is steeped in the Magna Carta and the limiting of the arbitrary power of government.

    • @stevent1565
      @stevent1565 10 місяців тому

      @@peterbarry4112 it is never the question of the law (laws) itself but the application of it to certain class of people.. There has always been a double standard tht seems to exclude the ruling elites and their circles until it no longer viable to the grp as a whole to do so. Throughout history, laws and its enforcement (military, royal/King's guard) was to safe guard the monarchy and keep the population in check. Once many countries dispensed of their eir absolute monarchy, the military duties transfered to the new ruling class and the royal guards became the police which safe guarded the ruling class ie the administration and elected leaders. The law and the police were never abt service to the people.

    Not one person will be sent to Rwanda. Will refugees who have risked their lives and spent their life savings getting to Dover be deterred by the very slim possibility of being sent to Rwanda - a less than 2% chance? No. Are any aircraft available for these two way deportation flights? No. Two way because taking into account the returns agreement, the net numbers will remain the same as we ferry Rwandans back to the UK. Even if aircraft are tracked down, there will be mass protests against these flights at Boscombe Down, or wherever they might depart from. So has the perimeter been secured to cope with protestors, and if so, how many more millions have been spent on security? Come on Mr Sunhat, what's the REAL motive behind this unworkable plan? Is it to enable you to shamelessly blame Labour for vowing to do what is morally and legally right in promising to bin this revoltingly dishonest and hugely expensive ruse? Or to blame the "unelected House of Lords" for injecting commonsense and pragmatism into an unworkable, illegal and spurious ploy? Yeah right, point accusing fingers at the Lords, where the CONservatives have a 100 seat majority! Or is this a delaying tactic to buy enough time to clinch a lucrative UK/India/Infosys trade deal before being forced out of office? Or to provoke a handful of refugees to the point of despair so they appeal against being sent to an unsafe autocracy? Whereupon the government will pounce at the excuse to overrule UK and International courts when they attempt to do their duty in upholding the rule of law and imparting humanitarian justice? Is it part of a surreptitious plan to further erode the Separation of Powers? Another step towards deregulation? For example, if the government weaken the independence of the Judiciary by overruling, bullying or bypassing the courts over matters of asylum law, they'll feel free to do exactly the same for employment law. Maternity leave, paid leave, working hours directives, minimum wages, health and safety obligations, human rights - all very costly and totally anathema to the concept of high profit "de-regulated" Free Ports and SEZs. We see the real motives behind this Rwanda debacle - not all of us have been brainwashed by the Daily Whatevers. The polls show that the clear 'will of the people' is not to clamour for specious Rwandan ruses. The undeniable 'will of the people' is actually for Mr Rich Sunhat to call the removals lorry and vacate No. 10.

    • @CryWillus
      @CryWillus 10 місяців тому +1

      You suggest a lot of plausible reasons for this nonsense, but I think it's this one: "is this a delaying tactic to buy enough time to clinch a lucrative UK/India/Infosys trade deal before being forced out of office?"

The purpose of the Rwanda gimmick is precisely to push public sentiment towards the UK joining Russia and Bellorusia outside the Council of Europe. That is the consequence of our refusal to abide by our international commitments and agreements in relation to the rights that protect ordinary Britains.
