  • Every day in Sutton scientists from The Institute of Cancer Research at The London Cancer Hub try to discover what will defeat cancer.
In the summer of 2022 communities in Sutton came together to celebrate their incredible research through the creation of a film.
Following a call for tender, the London Borough of Sutton enlisted Ian Sciacaluga & Victor Films to make a short community film celebrating this science. The resulting film showcases choreographed dance sequences as creative yet recognisable interpretations of scientific concepts. The film premiered on World Cancer Day, Saturday 4 February 2023, at a free event held at The Attic, St Nicholas Centre on Sutton High Street. The event also marked the launch of Sutton STEAMs Ahead 2023.

Very stylish take on what is of course a very serious topic but is made into a compelling dance film celebrating life and defiance.

Dear community, I recently came across a video about cancer research that utilized a dance to simulate cancer cells. While I understand the intention behind it, the overall tune is ice cold, scary and may not be appropriate for children. I believe that educational videos about sensitive topics like cancer should aim to bring joy, love and knowledge, not fear. I hope in the future, creators will keep in mind the impact their content may have on young viewers.

Agreed, this is warm & life affirming and celebrates science & dance and a great tool for teachers to support children, parents & carers in school via PSHE lessons.
