Istantanee dalla collezione | Ep. 10 | Johannes Auenmüller - The Ellesiya temple

Nowadays we are used to seeing the ancient temples empty and silent, but how did the ancients interact with these fascinating places? Studying the inscriptions and graffiti of this temple, we can immerse ourselves in the life of Ellesiya, the oldest temple carved in the rocks in Nubia.
Johannes Auenmüller has been curator at the Museo Egizio since January 2020. He has a PhD in Egyptology at the Free University Berlin. He has carried out research on bronze casting technology at the University of Bonn, he has taught - among others - at the universities of Münster and Munich and has participated in archaeological excavations in Austria, Egypt (Dahshur & Elephantine) and Sudan (Amara West). His main interests include the sociology and regional prosopography of Pharaonic Egypt, the technology of metal production and bronze casting, the archeology of settlements and the pharaonic rock inscriptions in Nubia.

The Temple of Ellesiya was moved to the Museo Egizio at Turin, Italy, in order to save it from being submerged by Lake Nasser. Great presentation.

Interessante, ma ... titolo non corretto, trae in inganno! La data del video si riferisce all’apertura al pubblico della sala con la ricostruzione del tempietto. Il vero trasferimento avviene nel 1967, in particolare i blocchi arrivano a Torino nel cortile del Museo il 24 aprile!!!
