Behind-the-Scenes: Hurler Receives New Track

- Hurler, alongside Woodstock Express and Carolina Goldrusher, completes Carowinds' collection of wooden coasters, bridging the gap between rides designed for children and large thrills such as Fury 325.
All rides and attractions undergo Routine Maintenance by Carowinds, with wooden structures requiring more attention due to their susceptibility to weather.
Historically, Carowinds outsourced wooden coaster track rebuilds. For 2024, Carowinds' in-house maintenance team is rebuilding Hurler's back curve to enhance the ride experience.
Needed it. Good job Carowinds 🙏🙌
I don’t know why they didn’t use RMC or Titan track, but I’m glad to see they are taking care of the ride.
What about the Gravity Group pre-cut track?
You don't have to RMC everything. Hurler is a neat wooden rollercoaster. Last season was my first time riding it and it was PAINFULLY UNCOMFORTABLE but fun. Can't wait for next season.
Because RMC in cedar Fair don't work with each other anymore. they cut ties mostly because of how problematic steel vengeance was in it's first season of operation. so they probably will never work with them again.
@@Shockzone1495 they RMC'd Hurler (now twisted timbers) in Kings Dominion the same year as Steel Vengeance. And yes, those are the only two RMCs in Cedar Fair portfolio but now with the 6F merger who knows.
Unpopular opinion but I'd rather have a re-tracked Hurler than an RMC
It is rmc track
Noooo😭 the pain of riding it was the best part
I’m sorry. What?
I’m glad they are taking care of this ride (it’s not a bad layout especially for kids who want to ride there big coaster)
Hurler is one of my very favorite coasters! 🙌🛤️Thank you for taking care of it and not tearing it down😊❤️💙
I wish we were stationed in SC, I took my kids to Carowind from 2002-2005 and it was a drive from Charleston to the border of NC/SC but it was so worth it everytime we went there.
Thanks! The coaster nerd in me loved it. Learned a lot of cool stuff. Please make more in the future.
Please RMC this! The park needs It!
Thank you Steve for doing this.
I loved this deep dive into the ride totally keep it coming bro
Glad to see this is getting a track replacement instead of just being torn down.
Im glad that this coaster is finally getting fixed. It needs it.
It jackhammered so badly last summer 🤕
Hey Carowinds! I’m so excited! We still need a RMC though…
Stay tuned 👀
@@bradyryan5105 hold up wait a minutes
Then they remove the only woodie. I think if they are going RMC it then they need to get another wooden coaster first
@@CarolinaCycloneJames eh woodies aren’t needed or we get a ground up rmc
very intresting bad boy Hurler really needs the retracking good job Carowinds!👍
Can you do a behind the scenes on Nighthawk please?
People are too tough on ol' Hurler. It's a perfectly good ride, it has a decent layout for a semi-classic singular adult wooden coaster in a park with such a good lineup as Carowinds. I think if Gravity Group were to come a completely restoreit, as in reprofiling that first drop, and the turns, as well as removing that trim, Hurler could be the nostalgic classic woodie it was always meant to be.
That would be great
I’m glad they’re keeping Hurler around. It’s the last coaster from its manufacturer (International Coasters) and really isn’t a bad layout. Having RMC convert it would just make it the same as Twisted Timbers at Kings Dominion since that was originally identical to Hurler and was also named Hurler. That said, Carowinds really deserves a nice GCI. Especially since they removed Thunder Road in 2015.
@Ferris1986 If something were to happen to Great America, I'd like to see Gold Striker come to Carowinds. I'm not exactly sure how they could do it, or where it would go, but I think that it would do well there. I also think that if they were to do that, they should theme it to moonshine running, to tribute Thunder Road.
@@garrettbrooks6576 Ever since California’s Great America announced their eventual closure, I’ve thought the same thing. It would be awesome to see Gold Striker continue it’s life at Carowinds somehow! Having it pay tribute to Thunder Road would be really cool!
@@garrettbrooks6576 I would like to see that but honestly it’s hard to move a wooden roller coaster
I dont know the next time i'll go to Carowinds, but I'll be sure to reride this coaster. My rides last year were very rough. I think this retracking will do wonders for this ride
I love you, Carowinds. I hope yall can turn down or disable the trim brake after the first drop now.
I think they did I didn’t feel it the last time I rode it and got some pretty good airtime
Carowinds stop avoiding the inevitable. RMC this ride already.
Great content!
Rather than retrack it, just RMC it like they did with the other Hurler at Kings Dominion and then build a brand new wooden coaster from GCI.
Nice that they are Retracking. Now Think of RMCing it.
Thank goodness cuz chile this ride was too rough lol
I know right lol 😂
Yoo I just got a job a kings Dominion yesterday and my first day is March 2nd and I can go to all cedar fair amusement parks and I can use my id as my pass it's cool
Sadly they decided to do this at opening of the park. this weekend was my first time every going and 2 rides are closed hurler for the retrack and vortex for the paint job. I'm not sure if I'll be back here again bc they have a lack of good rides. Only 4-5 good ones, 8 hour drive for me. I'm having fun so far, gotta ride the 2 big ones still.
Proof you don’t need to RMC everything! Well done Carowinds!
this isnt proof lol
@@DreamofThrills Barbecue bacon burger
that’s nice..
Everybody in the comments talking about how hurler needs the RMC treatment... Do you not realize this is an RMC treatment!! Can you not see it?? Routine Maintenance (by) Carowinds 🤣
Hey @Carowinds, did you take accelerometer data before and after re-tracking? That would be a really cool video or blog post to show what last year (ouch) was like vs baseline
I track g forces with my phone in a zippered pocket, that turn hit about 2gs but was really shaky when I go the 10th I’ll be able to see if it helped
I miss Thunder Road. I know why they tore it down (no one was riding it) but I liked it.
That's not why it was torn down.
They tore it down for Carolina harbor expansion
It was a number of things. The lift hill had significant structural issues, they wanted to expand the water park, and the coaster had low ridership anyway. It's a shame, because it was a classic, it raced over the state line and they had just finished a 5 year restoration, which included them rebuilding the turnarounds and a couple of the hills leading up to it from the ground up. When they got to the lift hill, they determined that it was too costly to rebuild, due to the rides popularity, and age, and they wanted to have a water park expansion anyway.
I wish we could get stuff like this for American Eagle at Great America owned Six Flags. It cannot even race anymore it's so bad.
When will it be done😢❤
I promised myself and God (and a few other people) halfway through the last time I rode that if i ever get off this ride I will never get back on…should I try again? 😂 I love rollercoasters!
just in case if anyone is wondering why they won't RMC it. is mostly because
RMC AND CEDAR FAIR DON'T WORK WITH EACH OTHER ANYMORE.
🙁
I see you guys hired GCI for this (How the track and support structure is done).
Ngl it need it
Can anyone explain its name?
I’m not a movie person, so I don’t understand the reference but the name Hurler dates back to 1994 when the clones were built and it references the waynes world movies.
Just rmc it
It’s probably not going to happen but that would be nice (at the same time this is a coaster for kids to ride as there big roller coaster) it’s not a bad layout just it could be better
It would be too similar to Twisted Timbers at Kings Dominion if it were to become an RMC. Twisted Timbers was originally an identical Hurler to Carowinds’ Hurler before it was given the RMC treatment. Besides, every good park needs a full size wooden coaster, and they already removed Thunder Road completely in 2015. Carowinds truly deserves a decent GCI.
@@Ferris1986 agree maybe carowinds can do what KD did to grizzly
@@coasterfair2602 That’s definitely the best most logical solution.
lets goooo
RMC give it the iron horse treatment
I rode Hurler I just don’t understand why it’s still rough some parts of the ride where fixed but it gives me a headache on the rest I just can’t enjoy it and understand why it’s so bad
I love wooden coasters but Hurler has gotten extremely painful. Happy with any ride upgrades / improvements. 🎢❤
I'd rather it be a lot smoother and a little more exciting.
BECAUSE THE GIFT THAT I RECEIVED IS THAT I FOUND THIS THROUGH MAPS AND MY SISTER'S FRIEND ALSO BEEN TO NEWEYORK, AND SO I GOT A SHIRT AND CANDY ON MY FIRST BIRTHDAY,🪁🪁🪁🪁🪁🪁🩷🩷🩷🩷🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳💜💜💜💜💜💜💜❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😂😂😂😂😂😂
Shit, now it’s not getting rmced😢
Carowinds = W
This means no RMC 😢😢😢
I’m coming to carowinds tomorrow every like this comment i will ride the thunder striker 🤞🏻
RMC please.
There’s no hope for that now 😢
rrmc it but great job
They tricked us on the website
Fail.
Everyone wants an RMC remodel 🤦♂️ this pretty much guarantees that it'll NEVER get RMC'd 😔
Same park that spent 6 years and millions retracting thunder road just to tear it down....
RMC IT AND MAKE IT GOOD
Just go to Kings Dominion and ride Twisted Timbers. That’s basically what it would be like if Carowinds’ Hurler was RMC’ed. Twisted Timbers was originally an identical Hurler.
But wouldn't it be kinda cool to see a 1st ever RMC conversion clone? Lol
@@thrillridefreak8884 They’re already fairly cookie cutter as is and cloning an RMC would make them less interesting and even more typical/common. I for one prefer classic wooden coasters and how each ride is totally unique more so than steel coasters. There’s a reason hardly any wooden coasters have been clones. We should try to keep as many operating wooden coasters as possible in their original intended form.
carowinds is my home park so i would rather have them make an rmc but cedar fair never listens to their community@@Ferris1986
Ok, I think I can speak for everyone when I say just RMC it it’s not worth saving just RMC it
I’ve ridden several worse wooden coasters. It’s not that old or dilapidated either. It still has potential and life left in it.
RMC IT
RMC
Sorry but this is a waste. I will never ride this again until its rmc’d or something.
Maybe a grizzly treatment (gravity group for KD) to hurler at carowinds
e
No, you should have RMC'd it. This ride is horrible.
It’s not that bad (vortex is worse so is nighthawk)
It’s not that bad all things considered. If you want to see what this would be like as an RMC, just go ride Twisted Timbers at Kings Dominion. Twisted Timbers was originally an identical Hurler.
@@Ferris1986 it would still be better than current hurler. hurler right now sucks, even a twisted timbers clone here would make me happy
@@rhodium785 I disagree but oh well. I for one prefer wooden coasters (no matter how painful) over hybrids that overdo on ejector airtime in tiny trains that staple you.
Thou Shalt Not Steel a Wooden Rollercoaster, Ruin My Coaster,(RMC)!!!
