The english paper piece quilt is absolutely amazing. Since you put so much work into it so far, I would do the long stitch to keep the vintage look and feel. That is a prize winning quilt for sure.
@@aquiltingtale6230 I am in complete agreement with @esther5333! When you mentioned possibly sending out this beautiful, hand-sewn quilt to be quilted, I literally gasped. You have put so much of your heart into this quilt with your very own hands, it would be more than a little sad for someone else to finish it. This is truly an heirloom quilt for your children. When they are adults, they will look fondly on this quilt because of the work that YOU did. And what a beautiful work it is! 🩷
Thank you for your comments. I like to pick patterns that push me just a little more each time, picking up a new technique here and there. UA-cam videos have helped. There are patterns I'm working on now that a few years ago I wouldn't have dreamed of trying, so keep at it! 💕
Oh wow! You have been busy! Love all your quilts ! I think you should hand quilt your beautiful quilt and keep it looking vintage! This is a prize winning heirloom quilt!
Just finished the video - WOW! What a talent you are, and I love your eye for fabric and the photos. The sparrows stole my heart as did the EPP - the fabrics reminded me of the Eloise Watkins Golden Books and 1940s and 50s illustrations. Every one was stunning. I would go with hand quilting the EPP (though I know it would take forever). It's just such a thoughtful quilt and hand quilting it would continue that look and experience when snuggling up with it. Okay, I'm a romantic LOL And my grandmother and grand aunts on up hand quilted. Their stitches were not long though. Maybe that was regional? That side of my family were Kentucky to Ohio until finally settling in Indiana where my grandmother grew up. Great memories of seeing them quilt at the quilting frame. This will be a video I'll go back to just for the pleasure of it. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your input and a bit of family history with me. Those would be special memories, watching the women in your family quilt together by hand. My grandparents had a set of Golden Books at their house that I loved to look through when I was little. I'm definitely drawn to those "vintage" illustrations. I'm so happy you enjoyed this video!
Way to go Fallen🎉🎉 You knocked it out of the park with your EPP! All that work and fussy cuts too! So beautiful. I enjoyed all the quilts you shared. Your free motion feathers are beautiful!! Can’t wait to see all your completed quilts♥️🎉🧵 TYFS your gorgeous flower garden with us💐🌺🌸🌼
I'm just nine minutes in, but I have to say that the Piece of Cake quilt is just lovely! What a nice pattern to make maybe in colors of gold (50th) or silver (25th) for anniversaries. Or the colors of the wedding! But these colors are such a beautiful combination. Okay, now on to the rest of the video and fun 😃
I am just tickled that you stopped part-way through the video to leave a comment, Kim! Glad you enjoyed it. You're right, this pattern would be lovely as a special anniversary or wedding quilt. 💕
Your quilts are absolutely stunning. Wonderful craftsmanship. I would do an all over edge to edge on your hexi quilt unless you want to invest hand quilts time to this project. I love the hexi quilt the best. Well done and bravo.
Enjoyed seeing your finishes! I just finished the Flowerstand quilt this week (it was on her celebration video which came out today) She had several quilts on the video that used different fabric choices. I think your fabric choices will be beautiful! Especially with the beautiful blue!
Wonderful finishes! I think custom quilting runs a small risk of detracting from your work imo. If it’s intricate and really well done, that might actually be the “star” of the finished quilt. So I would think about whether you want it super crinkly and textured or something softer , simpler, with more drape and choose between dense all over and big stitch. I love big stitch hand quilting and can definitely imagine it with quilting just around every shape plus around the inside of the large centers. I would use a thick thread like size 8 pearl cotton for that and use a variety of colors. Quilters Dream Bamboo is amazing for hand quilting.
Oh and just wanted to add - if you do just the simple outlining idea, the big stitch hand quilting will definitely go faster than you might think. Hand sewing a running stitch is a lot speedier than EPP stitches.
That's a great point about keeping it simple so as not to detract from the blocks, Kara! I did purchase several size 8 pearl cotton colors in anticipation of hand-quilting, because that's how the instructor had done hers and I loved the look. She had the same recommendation as you. Thanks for the tip for QD Bamboo batting too!
That's good to hear! Do you use a hoop with larger quilts and big stitch hand quilting, or have you done it successfully without a hoop? I would imagine you'd want to start from the center of the quilt either way. Would you agree? I greatly appreciate hearing from someone who has done it! :)
@@aquiltingtale6230 I don’t use a hoop or frame for big stitch, just reach under and scrunch with one hand to help hold the area smooth and slightly taut. With big stitch quilting, it’s really just a running stitch and you don’t need the same tension as you do for “rocking the needle” for tiny traditional hand quilting. It’s totally personal preference though! With simple hand quilting lines, I wouldn’t worry about starting in the middle. That’s more of a concern with dense quilting. Do you watch Vintage Sewing Box on UA-cam? She has some videos about hand quilting really simply with big stitches and thicker thread. I make my stitches smaller than she does (probably about six per inch instead of four) but generally I do it the same. You could try it out on a small piece first to practice popping the knots in between the layers and getting a feel for making your stitches even-ish. 🙂
Thanks for sharing your method and advice, Kara! I do watch Emma Jones's channel and went back to search her big-stitch quilting video after you mentioned it. Turns out I had watched it before because I remembered searching all over for those striped Pony needles she mentions. :) I might just have to practice on a small quilt sandwich to see if I can get the feel for it. It looks so pretty!
I am intrigued by your epp quilt did you have a template for fussy cutting? Are they appliquéd on a background? I think the long stitch hand quilting would be beautiful if the cost of custom quilting is a concern. I loved seeing all that you’ve accomplished and are looking forward to tackling. I always get so excited to see your posts. Love your content. With great thanks and admiration💕
Jenn, this made my day to read! Thank you for the kind words. The pattern came with a template for fussy cutting (I think you have the option of purchasing with or without, if I remember correctly), and applique is involved. Rachael's pattern is a little booklet filled with large pictures showing each step of the process. The visuals in it are a huge help. The only thing that confused me at first is the term "wadding," which I learned is what they call batting in Australia (where she's from) and other parts of the world. :)
Due to all of the hand piecing I would send it out if u are not as a treat to yourself, I recommend Lorenas Quilting here on UA-cam she will do a beautiful job on it
Your quilts are so thoughtfully made and absolutely amazing. I love epp as well and that quilt is heirloom quality. Have you ever seen Stitch.with.Rachel? She loves hand quilting and uses beautiful threads. Whatever you choose for your quilt, it will be stunning. ❤

Ahh, thanks, Esther! I appreciate your input and looking at it from a vintage angle. 💕

Everything is so beautiful and I'm impressed with your number of completes!
Thanks, Trista!
Your EPP is beautiful. Hand quilt for sure.
Thanks, Shelley!
You have been busy! I am impressed with the patterns you tackle too. I feel intimated with some projects.

Hooray for sparrows. It will be my January start. Love the pantograph. You have been a busy gal! Excellent quilts. So enjoyed the catch up!
Thanks so much!

Her feathers were lovely, weren't they?
Thank you so much for the kind words, Helen! I'm glad you enjoyed the flowers too! 🪻🩷

Love your sparrow quilt. It's on my bucket list
On mine too! :)
Thanks, Melody! When you're ready to make it, I have a couple videos with helpful tips for making it, if you're ever interested. :)
Wow, just loved EVERYTHING!!!!! Beautiful quilts, really enjoyed this x
Thank you so much for watching!
Your quilts are all wonderful. I made a big EPP quilt too so I know how much work was in that one. Great work!
I appreciate your lovely words, Margo. 💕
I think it need custom quilted. Your free motion quilting is wonderful. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for your input! I'm definitely on the fence about which way to go! :)
You and your amazing hexi quilt deserve custom quilting.
You're so kind, Sheila. Thank you! 🥰

The EPP would be beautiful if you have the time and patience to hand quilt it. I would have it custom quilted or it would become a forever quilt!
Thanks for sharing your input, Diane! You've captured how I'm feeling. :)
hand quilting
I've been searching and can't find a thing
😢
Are you looking for something in particular? I just added some links in the description that might be helpful. :)
Thank you, that helped. Nice quilts.
Thank you for the wonderful feedback! Yes, I love Rachel's channel. Her voice, fabrics, and hand-stitching make for such relaxing videos. :)
