The Chester Beatty Library is a museum and library in Dublin, Ireland. It was established in Ireland in 1950. The present museum opened on 2000 and it was named European Museum Of The Year in 2002. It includes prints, drawings, books, and decorative arts from the Persian, Islamic, East Asian, and West Asian collections. The Chester Beatty is one of the premier sources for scholarship in both the Old and New Testaments. It is home to one of the most significant collections of Western, Islamic, and East & South East Asian artefacts.
Sir Alfred Chester Beatty (1875-1968) was one of the greatest collectors of the twentieth century. He became the first honorary citizen of Ireland, and was the first Irish citizen to be awarded a state funeral in Ireland.
The museum also offers temporary exhibitions, many of which include works of art on loan from foreign institutions. The Chester Beatty museum also has a children's room and a garden on the terrace to enjoy the views of the city of Dublin.
