  • I've had really good luck using Honda OEM axles on my car. In this video, I'll tell you how long they lasted, show you what went bad, and show you how to replace them yourself. Total job time is approx 2 hours.
    Check out my car's progress to one million miles. It's the highest mileage Honda V6 in the world.

    Seems like a fundamental weakness on many Accords
    My 2009 knocks around but no vibrations

    Very cool vid, and I appreciated the step-by-step walkthrough for this project. Here’s hoping this set gets you another 500k of driving! Any other big tasks due on this car before one million miles?

      Hey! I think it will probably need brakes and struts soon. Nothing too bad.

    Does the same procedure apply to the 2003 hybrid

    We’re your axles brand new or did you buy used OEM ones? I had put Cardone brand axles on my 06 and they are bad after 5K miles. I found a used one OEM with 130K, hoping it’ll last long and don’t ever have to change it again. My originals only lasted to about 190K miles

    • @txaccord

      The two sets I've bought were new OEM. I do a lot of highway driving and I'm pretty easy on the car. I'm sure that has helped a lot with their longevity. Really surprised the Cardone axles only lasted 5k. That's crazy.

      @@txaccord have you ever changed out your transmission filter? My fluid was replaced 25K ago but the car has started to give an intermittent tugging feel. It’s very subtle but will do it even while cruising. I’ve never replaced the filter so maybe it’s clogged

    • @txaccord
      @txaccord  2 роки тому +2

      For the manual transmission, it's just a drain and fill of the fluid. I've heard something about a small filter on the automatics, but I'm not familiar with it. I see people on driveaccord.net talk about doing a few drain and fills as well as changing out the solenoids on the transmission. T-rd is one of the mods on there and has a 7th gen auto with a v6. He would probably be able to tell you more.

    nice video bro . i think i might have the same problem . my car shakes crazy at speed 60 km - 80 km and then it goes back to normal . is it the same sign you had ?

    • @txaccord
      @txaccord  11 місяців тому +1

      My first set of axles that went bad caused the car to shake while accelerating from around 50-70mph. It could either be that or you could have a tire out of balance that creates the most vibration between those speeds for you.
      The inner CV joint is generally the one that wears out first on these Accords. You can get the car up on jack stands and try to rotate your axle up at that inner CV joint. If you feel a lot of play and looseness there, the axle needs replaced.

      @@txaccord thx man . i had some suspicious about the axel , because my tires are new and well balanced . tomorrow i will get the car on a Car lift and give it a wiggle . so how much does it cost to get both sides ? OEM from Honda brand new ?

      My axles for my V6 MT were some of the cheaper ones from Honda. It was less than $600 for both of my axles from hondapartsnow.com. The auto transmission V6 and the 4cyl axles were closer to $500 for each axle IIRC.

      Hi, doing axles on my 6MT as well. I feel like a bum replacing my 12yo old 134k mile OEM axles with insane shafts that broke boots and went bad in 2 years. The originals were stiff but should've kept them.. Anyway, have you ever needed to replace the inner shaft bearing? Thinking of doing that but if the original is lasting over a million miles I'm not going to touch it. 😂

      The inner joint has always been fine for me. The outers wore out. I actually have a spare brand new OEM rt side axle in the box.
      Part # 44305-SDP-A00
      I paid $244 + tax and shipping on it. Would be happy to make you a fair deal on it. Before this oem one arrived, I got an axle from O'Reilly's because I needed the car for deliveries so this axle is just sitting around now.

    I should be at 100k miles by the end of this month on my 05 accord sedan , jt seems like Im standing still compared to you . Did it take 2 hours per side ?

    • @txaccord
      @txaccord  2 роки тому +2

      It was about 2 hrs total for both sides. It went pretty well. Having the impact gun helped a lot because the upper ball joint and outer tie rod end can spin as you're trying to get those nuts off and on. Congrats on your milestone.

    I have a 2007 honda coupe v6 as well and I always get confused on the length of the cv axles which one longer? Left side or right side

    • @txaccord

      The left side is longer. It goes directly into the transmission whereas the passenger side goes into the intermediate shaft.

      I looked up a 2006 EX 4cyl auto transmission. Your passenger side is much longer than the driver's side.
      My 6-6 coupe has an intermediate shaft so my passenger side driveshaft is smaller than my driver's side driveshaft.
      It appears the automatic transmission cars don't have an intermediate shaft.

    On my v6 the CV axle makes a sound when I turn the steering full right or full left and start moving. The sound only comes from the passenger side. So I think the passenger side axle is bad. Is it good to replace both or only one side?

    • @txaccord
      @txaccord  Рік тому

      I'd personally replace both if you've never replaced either side before. It's the inner joint, toward the transmission, that usually wears out on these cars. Get under it and grab the axle by the inner joint. Try to rotate the axle back and forth. You'll probably feel that the inner joint is loose. That'll show you if that's the problem.
      You should also check your lower ball joints and stabilizer bar end links to see if they're making noise.

    • @whatdadogdoin7531
      @whatdadogdoin7531 Рік тому +1

      @@txaccord okay so I'll replace both axles so that both of them are brand new ones. Do I require a wheel alignment when I replace both the axles? I recently replaced the front lower ball joints and the end link is holding up good at the moment. The control arm was also inspected when the ball joints were replaced and they are good too. So I know it's the CV axles that are bad

    • @txaccord
      @txaccord  Рік тому

      @@whatdadogdoin7531 That's good you know it's the axle. Shouldn't need an alignment after changing these. I've done my axles and been fine without a new alignment.
