I saw her perform live in a club in the mid-60’s and can attest to the fact that Bobbie was the most beautiful & sensual woman I had ever seen! I’ll bet she’s still stunning!
She was an absolutely beautiful woman who cared her looks from the 60s all the way to when she just disappeared in the early 80s she had a beautiful voice and just an all-around beautiful woman
Holy crap Ed must have been having a coronary back stage 😂. Remember how scared he was to put The Stones on his show.Hahahahaha. Just goes to show you that talent floats to the top. Always.
Love Bobbie Gentry! Her Ode to Billie Jo was ubiquitous in 1967, and that only the begining of a career filled with unique and brilliant songs. This is a great performance at her peak. Thanks for posting!
Bobbie Gentry was the best inthe 1960's. She practically owned the Summer of '67 with " Ode To Billie Jo ". What a beautiful , talented woman ! , Dean in Syracuse.
The song was released earlier in the year and from the album "Fancy", for which she received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Vocal Performance, Female. Hopefully we will see both the Goose Creek Symphony performance and her return later to perform, "But I Can’t Get Back".
The title song (Man Made A Woman Out Of Me) about a 16-year-old-girl - Jeez, just a few short years before this aired, the Rolling Stones were censored on the show for far less.
it was the fall of 1970 or perhaps the early part of 1971 .. Don Ho had taken a stint in Las Vegas so the hotel brought in several acts for lounge entertainment while he was gone .. bought tickets to all of the shows .. our seats were so close it seemed like I could have reached out and touched the artists .. think I may have forgotten one, but the ones I remember are The Supremes (post Diana Ross) .. Ray Charles .. The Association .. and Miss Bobby Gentry .. pretty good lineup for $20 a person OM, Ms Gentry came out dressed much as she was in this video .. except think the top button on her jeans was undone .. and sang her rendition of Billy Joe yeah, 50+ years later and still remember it
The ultimate in ballads about Southern families, poverty, heartbreak and loss. Only Nashville could take this into a bankable commodity. Couples throwing a baby off a bridge, 16-year old girls being pimped by their mothers and the list goes on. Ms. Gentry lived a Dukes of Hazard life.
Severely underrated artist
Ubderrated for a reason. Three trick pony.
Her voice. The backing is amazing. . What a band..
I saw her perform live in a club in the mid-60’s and can attest to the fact that Bobbie was the most beautiful & sensual woman I had ever seen! I’ll bet she’s still stunning!
She is 82 now
What happened to her? She kind of checked out and went silent and hasn't been seen for decades...
The Gentry strut on full display. She and Elvis had such unfettered charisma ! One of her greatest television performances. Thanks so much!
I agree. She seems like a nice christian lady and her folks!
True they were special along with Barbara eden. Three very special individuals to have ever walked this earth except for Jesus of course
She was an absolutely beautiful woman who cared her looks from the 60s all the way to when she just disappeared in the early 80s she had a beautiful voice and just an all-around beautiful woman
She certainly was, a natural beauty with the fluidity of natural movement too.
Wow discovered this today in 2023 and I am blown away. Love this song. What a legend!
Now listen to her Delta Sweete and you will really be blown away.
She is pretty fabulous, isn’t she? ❤👏❤️👏❤️
Bobbie rocking the belly shirt look more than thirty years before Britney and Christina
You mean Madonna.
Oh yeah!
I love Bobbie!
who are they? LMBO, Bobbie had something they didnt have ..TALENT!
@@recordguy4321 I have no interest in Christina Aguilera's music, but she is a fantastic singer, to say that she has no talent is idiotic.
A perfect woman in every way. Everyone watched Ed Sullivan, and the next day her outfit was all the grade school boys were talking about.
All their daddys were talking about too.
My Mother, a gorgeous Delta delight, used to dress and dance like that. Must be something in the water that blooms such beautiful flowers.
What a performance. Never saw this before. Thanks.
With her sultry blues vouce , she was the Edith Piaff of country music. It's hard to believe she left it all behind.. . No Regrets? .
BG was a stone cold fox!
she's something else! what a vibe
It's bobby's birthday 27 July.
She will be 80.
Happy birthday Bobby. Thanks for the great performances.
I saw a recent photo of her, she looks great.
Leo ♌️. Makes perfect sense. She's quite an entertainer.
A singer songwriter who looks and dresses like that - Wow - 30 years before her time...
True. She totally invented the modern female artist. Not only writing a big chunk of her material but producing it as well.
Gorgeous! The women of 2024 cant compare!
I would have loved to have seen Ed's reaction when he first saw Bobbie come out in that outfit!
Ed loved Bobbie. He did a show from a veterans hospital and had Bobbie as a performer.
Holy crap Ed must have been having a coronary back stage 😂. Remember how scared he was to put The Stones on his show.Hahahahaha. Just goes to show you that talent floats to the top. Always.
she is so gorgeous my goodness...
God yes!
What a babe!!
She was beautiful. Great song and singer too.
what a great song! what a gorgeous woman!
What a voice. So effortless. Voice,Looks, moves, and a pen that never misses.
She, Bonnie Bramlett, Brenda Lee, and Tanya Tucker are my favorite female singers of all time. And you're right, Bobbie had it all.
Wow what a beautiful woman!

When women were women. Such beauty, grace, tenderness and talent!!!
I was just starting puberty when I first saw her on TV. That's when I discovered what my special purpose was for.
Bobbie Gentry was the best inthe 1960's. She practically owned the Summer of '67 with " Ode To Billie Jo ".
What a beautiful , talented woman ! , Dean in Syracuse.
You are right! Ode To Billie Joe and Doors 'Light My Fire' dominated radio.

They weren't Christian but seemed really honest.
The song was released earlier in the year and from the album "Fancy", for which she received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Vocal Performance, Female. Hopefully we will see both the Goose Creek Symphony performance and her return later to perform, "But I Can’t Get Back".

She was amazing! A creative powerhouse ahead of her time. Too bad she had to fight the male-dominated powers in the music biz every step of the way.
Hit the nail on the head!
I hope to marry a lady with a voice like hers
Those guys outfits looks like they are from today. Cool country..😎
