    I have been watching and learning from your channel for about a year now and I want you to know something, I feel I have gained as much knowledge as I would have received at any auto body school. Thank you for providing this instruction in a no frills, no bullshit format so that even I could understand it and put it to use on my own personal vehicles.

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  3 роки тому +1

      I would do it to a chrome bumper if it was mine - it sure would look a lot better than rusted chrome. It took 8 hours total or less. 3 separate days though a 2-3 hours a day. I let the primer dry overnight one day and the paint over night also. It's not a bad project and really made the truck look a lot better - now the rims :)

  • @jasonbeightol3620
    @jasonbeightol3620 3 роки тому

    Hi Jerry, Great video!! I haven't seen you use any wire wheels for removing any rust. I know that sand blasting is the best way to get rid of rust. Do the wire wheels not work that well or is it just a personal preference? Thanks Jason

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  3 роки тому

      They do a pretty good job but tend to rub and thus almost polish the metal. Primer and filler like to stick to sharply roughed up surfaces more so than shiny. If the wire wheel is all you have then no worries - use that. I will work just fine too. The blaster is just a little better than the wire wheel at getting it cleaner and preparing it well for primer or filler.

      I'm still using it for my main paint gun but have only done repairs so far. I think it would be fine for full paint jobs but a bigger compressor would really help it do it's best to keep the pressure at a constant 20 psi. Right now mine drops a bit and I have to adjust as I go. I've been in the market for a nice compressor for a while but haven't gotten serious about it. I really do like it - good gun - everything about it is simple and easy - I like that. Have a good weekend Scott :)

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  3 роки тому +1

      Any shiny chrome - you might want to sand blast to rough it up a bit - then maybe prime it with some epoxy. Myself I wouldn't be afraid to use the stuff I always use - lacquer primer surfacer. The bubbled stuff you'll have to sand/grind off like my bumper - same thing, use a 24-36 grit fiber resin disc on slow speed to keep the disc biting, sharp and the heat down.

    I guess the backside just stayed a POS or did you do anything to it?

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  2 роки тому +1

      You can sand blast it and spray it with something like Por15, 3M undercoating, or even rustoleum if you want. Myself, I don't want any paint on the back side because once it starts to peel it traps moisture causing it to rust faster. With my own stuff I knock the loose rust off with a scaler or air hammer and hit it with a nice coat of used motor oil once a year. That oil gets gummy and greasy over the years and ends up like an old greasy valve cover or oil pan - never rusts
