  • On this episode of the HUNTR podcast, Jared and Jeremy invited Team 200's Adam Hays, who has harvested multiple 200 inch whitetails and uses the Red Moon to his advantage. Adam is the owner of Team 200 and The Deer Hunter's MoonGuide. With Jared and Jeremy skeptical of the Red Moon, Adam them understand how the moon is observed in terms of the red moon. We all struggle with hunting the correct wind scenarios and Adam filled us in on how he uses the wind to his advantage. Since Adam knows how to find those 200 inch giants, he explained his methods for how he located them; but that's not what all of the podcast is about. Join in and listen to this great conversation with Adam Hays!

HUNTR is the project we should have started years ago. It's our excuse to work less and hunt more. We're not the world's greatest hunters by any means but we're not afraid to get aggressive and learn from our mistakes. From northeastern whitetails to western muleys, we're dreaming up hunts, putting in for tags, finding ground, and doing everything in our power to get it done.
Podcasts drop Tuesday nights, season 1 drops fall 2021, & there's merch in the store if you dig our stuff!
We want to hear from you! Whether you've got a story to share, a question for the guys, or want to tell us what we're doing wrong, it's all good.

I went back to the last 3 bucks I killed that I could remember the dates on and all 3 were on a red moon day and in locations that were listed for the date. Pretty cool so I may just have to pay more attention now!!

More knowledge bombs. I'm jealous of you guys that get to hunt the midwest every day with these giants. We have decent deer in Texas but you can't hunt them the same due to the pressure and the wild hogs that are out of control. I go to Kansas the first week of November every year and it's so much easier to hunt. The deer are actually still wild and huntable. Keep em coming guys!

Don’t get us wrong Ben. I hunt Pennsylvania and super hard to get on mature deer, but more opportunities leads to more bucks. Kansas is amazing, best place I’ve ever hunted. - Jeremy

Where can I access the historical data for moon cycles for red moon? There is plenty all over for moon phase but not for moon position. I just want to do what was said, looking up biggest deer harvests/day time photos.

I hunt in Tennessee and I have seen 1 deer on the hoof that me and my buddy both think would break 200 we seen him twice. Once in bow season and he never got closer than 90 yds and we walked up on him in rifle season I pulled up my rifle and squeezed the trigger while he was running and my gun clicked I had forgotten to put a round in the chamber. People think that Tennessee doesn’t have 200inch deer but look at the Tucker buck it was killed an hour from me and it wasn’t just a 200inch deer it was a 300inch deer and that buck wasn’t old it was at most a four year old some could argue a 3 year old. If he don’t live there you can’t kill him is true but at the same time is he his not there? Don’t ever just look at your farm or state where you hunt and think that no 200 inch deer lives here. Make sure you do your due diligence before thinking they aren’t there.

The hunting beast success number one factor always is wind and thermals, John Eberhart has a strict scent control regiment along with scentlok clothing and says he can ignore the wind

@@HUNTRPOD Thanks for acknowledging that. Back in the '70s, '80s and '90s we didn't have the benefit of trail cameras to point is in the right direction. We could sit all season passing up 100" bucks in hopes of seeing a P&Y that didn't even exist in the area. I've been saying for years that even though I'm more successful these days, I was a much better hunter back then.

Hey guys, i like listening to your podcasts and i think Jeremy has some valuable knowledge as a biologist, but it is really hard for me to listen to someone like Jared who has said (if I remember correctly) that he has only killed 8 or so whitetails with a bow talk like he is an expert on the subject. First some background on myself so you know where Im coming from. i grew up in north florida hunting public and private land. i killed my first deer at 14 and have since killed more than 100 whitetails with bow and gun. archery is my passion and is my preferred method of killing. Ive spent more than forty five years tromping around the woods of the southeast and like Jeremy i was a wildlife biology/forestry major at Mississippi State. i did not finish my degree so im not claiming to be a biologist.
I find it really hard to believe that yall dont believe that the moon has an effect on the movement of whitetails. in fact it blows my mind. i have been using the solunar tables ( hunt and fish times ) for my entire life because at least hear in the south it works like clockwork. its not just fish and game either you can witness this behavior in cattle and other livestock as well. On the way to the hunt as a boy we would watch pastures and if the cattle were up feeding my dad would say the deer were on there feet too. He knew that when the moon was under foot, over head, or on either horizon the deer were probably on their feet. It doesnt mean that you will see them but you can believe they are moving somewhere even if just stretching their legs in the bedding area. its my belief that this has a far greater effect on whitetail movement than weather and Ive personally proven it time and time again. now if you can combine the major or minor solunar time with a weather change then you definately have a the best situation, no doubt. im not denying the fact that weather influences white tail movement, it certainly does.
I havent looked into the red moon but ive been using these principles successfully for my entire life and I truly believe that Adam and Been are correct. More studies need to be done on this subject.
I also thought the podcast with Ranch fairy and Darrel Barnette was great but it was really hard to listen to yall questioning their wisdom on broadhead selection, it was embarrassing. The principles they are preaching are not up for debate. It is science. I would suggests you read dr. Ed Ashbys reports if you have not. if you are still using rage tripans after that than you are crazy. ive had personal experience with many types of mechanicals including the tripans and rage 2 blades and have had bad results, ie poor penetration, lost animals, failure to open, etc., multiple times. I wont use them anymore on any game. Another great rescource is the book "Cant Lose Bowhunting" by Jeremy Johnson. Sorry to Harp on Jared but I think he needs to just kick back and listen to some of these older, more experienced hunters and maybe share more of his knowledge on food plots and farming as it seems he has a good grasp on that. Look forward to more great guests on your pocasts. You should definately have Ed Ashby on too. Thank you
