That looks very pretty. You are brave. I am a fan of Box - however my 15 year old box hedging which looked great was obliterated last year by the box caterpillar. I had always kept the box fluffy - wobbly - opened out the centre slightly but it still succumbed. I had to burn the lot! I have now turned to Pittosporums - bright green version which are looking good. But Box will always be my favourite.
Very good point. Yes, I did take a risk. Fingers crossed. Sorry to hear about yours. I have a video in the pipeline "alternatives to Buxus for small hedges". Mark
Love your design. Love your work and smart choices in it. Will love your future parterre as it grows. Thanks for letting us join your journey and giving us courage to build our own!
Brilliant, thanks Madeline. I do hope you try your own, it's hard work but great fun and rewarding as it all grows and gels together. Thanks again for watching and messaging. I'm doing some vegetable beds next, watch this space. Best. Mark
Very nice, lots of hard work. Have you ever watched a gardener called Charles Dowding? He's a no dig gardener , and it is very interesting. You don't dig the soil so it's easier for you, and the soil is healthier. He does put a lot of home made compost on to enrich the soil ☺
Thanks anna. Yes i have watched several of his videos. And enjoyed them. I'm planning to do some vegetable beds and was watching his cardboard and mound method. Might try it. I think someone mentioned no dig before. Was it you? Interesting concept.
Tried putting some box cuttings into a spare piece of ground to see if they take,if so it will be a very cheap hedge. See in one of videos you have a like rope buxus hedge, is it difficult to cut into that shape?
@@roberthamilton2334 the knott is not difficult but does require time and patience. Essentially i grew a hedge all the same height. Then cut certain areas lower and left others higher. I got the design by goolgling 'eternal knot' images.
A very inspiring and enjoyable video Mark and hello from Hampshire. I'm guessing you're in Yorkshire and hope you're box does not succumb to the blight or box caterpillar infestations we have inexperienced down here. I'm looking forward to your next video and seeing your garden evolve. :)
Thanks Mark. Really appreciate your comment. Yes i was a little worried about blight but decided to take the chance. I hope some scientist somewhere creates a treatment. Thanks for watching. I'm in Cheshire, but i do have a northern lancs accent 😊
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK Oops! I hope I didn't offend you by assuming you were from Yorkshire - no offence to Yorkshire folk! I have met fine people from both counties and am entirely neutral! :) I must brush up on my recognition of the northern accents!
@@markbriggs5531 I'm absolutely not offended in the slightest please don't worry. I'm originally from Rochdale which is a stones throw from Yorkshire, similar accent. I've been in cheshire a while now. Mark
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK Thank heavens! :) I know of the rivalry between those two fine counties because of the War of the Roses but it's great how gardens bring people together. Looking forward to your efforts in the garden bare fruit this year :)
Hi. If you can have a quick look at my recent garden tour which is the video that starts playing when you first click on the channel there is an update right at the very start. Thank you. Mark

Hi neringa. They did survive thank you, the area where i live came off quite lightly. The south of England was hit quite badly. Phew!

Interesting Garden design, gonna try one of these in my side garden. Your video is very informative. Thanks Mark

Great but can we have update on growth please

Please can we use mulch or the only weeds barrier?
Yes mulch is fine also definitely. As deep as possible. 4 inches
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK thanks
