i can sweep and do that kinda shit but hell i can't comprehend playing guitar and singing at the same time... not sure how the hell can he shred like that and scream at the same time
Damn, I was watching this concert like mad in winter 2008. I remember that feeling of discovering a band, that has tons of songs and the ones you've listened to so far are all awesome. This is how I got into metal with harsh vocals. Rest in peace, Alexi, and thanks for all of the emotions your music has given.
RIP. I’ll always remember watch this almost 18 years ago and being awestruck at the playing while singing. Incredible talent that will truly be missed. I didn’t even love metal that much at the time but this really opened the door for it.
aún me cuesta creer que murió, y lo peor es que no quieren aclarar la causa de su muerte ni tampoco han dicho la fecha exacta, todo es muy sospechoso, de cualquier forma su música siempre vivirá igual que su gran legado
No, Alexi himself was admitting that. He suffered an unnoticed collarbonefracture for over ten years and he had issue with playing fast all the years. Maybe he was sad by the fact that his super power was fading so quickly (guitar playing). Anyway his Pains are over now.
This is fukcing insanely awesome !! He actually can play the solo, I saw him live once in 2011 playing this song and he totally messed it up during the solo, I imagined that he could only play it on studio with a little help from studio effects, now i see he plays it like a master. Now the question is what the fuck happened to him? Nowadays he sounds like shit in his hardest songs.
+Rarity Sparkle Coming from experience these kinds of things take hours of constant practice. You can't just put in a good month or two, or even a little more, and hope to play things as complex as this without messing up as heard on albums. It takes years of consistent playing to develop the muscle memory and subtle technicalities that we as an audience take for granted. To do it live makes it a million times harder. Standing, fatigued, pressured, stage audio dynamics, the demand is unbelievable. Performers earn every penny they get.
I saw them live in 2011 too, and he nailed it. In fact the whole show was a lot better than I expected, compared to what I saw on youtube back then. Maybe it had to do with the fact that he did not drink during the show, haha!
low quality on the vid, but thats 2 b expected......best live version as n, bet played live as far as ive found....thnx 4 the post, thanx 4 being (obviously) a Bodom fan.......and im gettn "teary-eyed" now cause.....the people around me n my life at this juncter dont get metal
Alexi, although a little early on bits.....It's amazing he can play a somewhat complex lead like this while singing at the same time. Wish I had that kind of talent.
The tone was so much better on that Jackson that's why I think he sounded so much better then. He's definitely a better guitarist now skillwise, but that full, warm tone just sounds so good where as the ESP he plays now is very treble heavy in my opinion.
+Leandro Vazquez he was, he stoped drinking on tour. And its not the guitar witch sounds bad, the esp alexi laiho guitars are really good, but the emg alx pickup is shit.
Megan Reese they also played in standard tuning early on, now they play a lot of shit in drop b, drop c etc. the ESP actually sounds great, I have one, and a Jackson. It's tuning and amps.
most bands are like that actually more frequently mm really shame im thinking they made what they need and along the way they are not feel so pressured to impress the audience not all but most happen that effect in flames as well new álbum sucks really the last one worse back then they had such songs and melodies and damn ¬¬
he should have stayed with jackson guitars...his tone and everything since he went to esp and alexander isnt in the band..imo the last decent albim was hcdr....
Tony tuning, and amp selection and how you set them is how it actually works. I own one of those jacksons, and the ESP model, both are great. They played in standard back then, now in drop c and even drop b. He switched amps and pick ups too.
Tony kissing the shadows is in D standard most of the early stuff is in D standard then later to drop c them drop b oh and very early some stuff I'm c#
I think the tone had a lot to do with the electronics. Back in the day he used a Jackson J-50BC passive pickup with a JE-1000 preamp boost. This setup had less high end than he does nowadays, and wasn't as muddy. Now he uses the EMG HZ-H2 passive pickup with the ALX MM-04 preamp boost (I think). Totally different sounding pickups and a different boost. Probably a large part of why his tone isn't as good as it once was.
"made the key sound larger"? "other instruments stopped early"? All the other instruments usually stop there except for one guitar. I reckon he just lost a bit of concentration and jumped the gun on the bit played at 2:35 ish.
Dave mustaine plays technical riffs under his vocals, but god, this is just on another level
2:01 is when Laiho decided to reveal that he's a god.
i can sweep and do that kinda shit but hell i can't comprehend playing guitar and singing at the same time... not sure how the hell can he shred like that and scream at the same time
Tache Adrian that riff is hard enough without singing over it too haha
and 3:43 is when he revealed that he is still human after all 😅
The level of talent to be able to play and sing like this at the same time is astonishing
SKILL!!!
That is some serious keyboard and guitar playing...
Alexi was not just in another level. He was in whole another dimension. That guy was one sick fucking beast
RIP Wildchild. This was my introduction to COB.
I was about to say the exact same thing
Brings me back ages ago when I was discovering CoB
Likewise, brother
What an introduction 😎🤘👏🔥❤ alexi will be missed R.I.P
Probably the best year of Bodom.
Rest in power, legend.
Alexi was only 22 when that concert happened :O
fucking rockstar even drunking the solo
I was 4 when this happened... and I was living in Seoul
and I was 10, rest in metal dear friend
Suomen poika päässy kiertää maailmaa.
21, he turned 22 3 days after
how can he sing and play like that....? Awesome!
he doesn't sing, he just screams but yeah I get your point it's crazy!
muscle memory... he was not thinking about what he was playing, he was playing what his muscles remembered
virtuoso.

@@adolfoalbornoz3730 en tu lógica si el hiciera eso de gritar entonces con suerte podría "gritar" una canción antes de quedar sin vos... 🤦🤦🤦 Ridículo!
And it's 10-20 BPM faster than the recording. Always fuckin amazes me what talent he and Janne possesed!

The "Jackson era" Laiho was beyond phenomenal prodigy
R.I.P Alexi Laiho, one of a kind. Legends never die.
Damn Alexi was on fire those days. COB was out for blood when they played this stuff live.
COB's prime time.
RIP. I’ll always remember watch this almost 18 years ago and being awestruck at the playing while singing. Incredible talent that will truly be missed. I didn’t even love metal that much at the time but this really opened the door for it.
RIP Alexi. A legend.
Best part of old CoB concerts? Alexi guitar/Janne keytar battles.
RIP Alexi laiho, you won't be forgotten. Another guitar legend lost too soon
what a performance
RIP SENSEI LAIHO!
The old COB, the original COB, the BEST COB. Man, I miss these guys.
0:14 best head banging ever
3:29 and yes I always loved how he headbanged back in the day... he was a fucking Wildchild indeed
@@arlos21 Often wonder why he stoped with the " old headbangin" :)
@@alexaderwerner5268Fatigue from aging… and a hard rock n’ roll life.
"I'm dreaming down below from down below" LOL
Absolute beasts. CoB was my favorite band when I was 12… inspired for life. Such powerful lyrics!
Aaah good ol Bodom...one of the first bands I ever got into...back when they were good too ;(

Great song.
Great year.
Great festival

am i the only one to think that alexi played it better before than now? (sorry for random english)

+Rarity Sparkle Not anymore. Watch shows from the latest tour. He has taken some time to practice again :D

He broke his shoulder and wrist a bunch of times and was drunk as fuck for most of the 2000s. It wasn't a good decade to anyone.

Alexi was a monster ❤
Peak Bodom \m/
1:16 Janne😂
Janne was in a hurry to play the solo🤣

Alexi is probably thinking to himself "how the fuck did I pull this off years ago?!?" Lol. Overall, CoB is still amazing and always will be! :D
Epic
Akexi needs another Jackson guitar, those were the days!!!!!!!
I didn't think, that this could happen.
R.I.P. Alexi
Yeah he's saying Follow the Reaper is there best album (along with Hatebreeder and Something Wild) ^_^
Fala se isso não é não é incrível! O Laiho canta e sola ao mesmo tempo!
I have to learn this, so epic
I really wanna see Alexi do the lead guitar on a song without the vocals!
I hope that would make a GREAT difference!!
Cuz he has epic solos!

Golden age of COB
kissing the shadows in 2001? was the album already out that year?
Follow the Reaper came out in 2000 you nit.
I believe follow the reaper was released on New Year's Day, so if I'm correct the album was an extremely early release in the year.
