- White Pony is one of my favorite albums but I haven't listened to Teenager as much of the others. So this is my first time listening deeply to it.

damn everyone just skips this song but this actually one of my favourites
It's a nice trippy song. Some people just had trouble understanding it or liking it
Ну шо тут скажешь, она куда менее динамичная если сравнивать с большей частью их песен. Не сказать, что она прям совсем простая, но очень спокойная как минимум. Думаю, это определённо важная часть их музыкальной идентичности.
same. always has been. Feels like one of their songs that's 95% Chino
That was basically the first Team Sleep song
Trip hop beats, loops, and an acoustic guitar.
Nothing specific in the liner notes, but curious to know if this one was just Frank Delgado + Chino in the studio.
Probably the most *different* song on the album, closest thing on the album to an acoustic track.
Lyrically this one is pretty straight forward:
"The lyrics were all written when I was 15 and living in Arizona with my grandparents. It's pretty much about my first and only real date I ever had. It's kinda corny but it was the first time I got my heart broken" - Chino
Personal story: I went to read the liner notes for this album and remembered that I don't have this CD anymore, just the jewel case.
I bought the album as a teenager and while listening to it at a friends place the disc EXPLODED
My buddy gave me back the jewel case a few days later with a burned CD inside labelled "Deftones - White Pony - Use with care"
Awesome story buddy
i've always liked this song. i think it is this nice atmospheric break that proves why deftones have so much more to offer.
As far as I understood it, this was actually a Team Sleep song first! I know you don't take suggestions here, so I'll just put my hope into the universe that you'll cover the whole team sleep album one day ☺️
You nailed it, "Moreno wrote this for his band Team Sleep, which is a lot more atmospheric than Deftones, but ended up using it on Deftones' third album, White Pony." I found that online.
There's a special place in my heart for "Teenager". This one is way out there in deep center field as far as deftones songs go but I love it. It's nostalgic to me, I suppose. Do a breakdown of "The Boys Republic"! please.😁
Chino and trip-hop is always a winning combination.
I agree, when I first got my copy of _White Pony,_ "Teenager" was... not a track I appreciated nearly as much as I should have. As I got older and my musical tastes matured a bit, I gradually came to the realization-- I think it's an essential track on the album, because it provides a nice breather in contrast to the harder-edged tracks like "Elite", "Street Carp" and "Korea". The balance in dynamics between the more metal side of the band and the shoegaze-y or trip-hoppy stuff is the whole reason _White Pony_ is such a masterpiece-- it never becomes monotonous because each song changes up the tempo and the atmospherics. "Teenager" is just a really bittersweet, mellow song about young love.
That said... we all know what's coming next, and you have no idea how much I've been looking forward to it. :D
I always really liked this song!
If you haven’t heard the “Idiot Version” of this song from the B-Sides and Rarities album, you should check it out. The addition of another vocalist and some interesting melodic lines spices it up a bit.
Not just any additional vocalist, but Daniel from Idiot Pilot.
That was a cool version of the track, thanks for pointing it out!
@@CFChristian Yes indeed!
You would skip this!?! SMH. /s
I drove you home
Then you moved away
New cavity moved into
My heart today
Heart cavities suck
A quote from Chino talking about the Black Stallion Remix Album, "... it’s very [much] a drum-forward album and I think it’s because we were sort of influenced by a lot of breakbeat kind of DJ style sort of music in general. Obviously DJ Shadow, he’s a part of it, and he was a big influence on that record."
do you know what that dissonant/unsettling chord over the top is called? I've heard that in a couple Boards of Canada songs too and I've always been curious if there was a name for it
Are you talking about the almost "squealing" sound way up high? It sounds like it's changing pitch up and down?
@@iximusic Yes ma'am
It's not really a chord because it sounds like multiple notes that are changing pitch up and down independent of each other. I'm not sure what to call it. Sorry! :)
@@iximusic thanks anyway! It's a neat effect, whatever it is
I LOVE this song, honestly I like it better than Passenger 😬😬
:: GASP ::
So did you do a piano cover of it?
Reminds me of pink/maggot for some reason
Am I the only one that counts this as 12/8
