    • @gregclare

      I'm keen for a glasses style for virtual cinema / virtual desktop display. But their 3840x1080 is clearly just 1920x1080 per eye (3840x1080 is also stated as 16:9 aspect), so their 4K claim is not honest. And it's 60Hz only. Also, I believe you really need 6DOF for virtual screens, otherwise it would be like clamping your head still in front of your monitor (all view movement would need eye movement... not how we naturaly look at out monitors / TVs!).
      For now I'm waiting for the Panasonic VR Viewer. Suddenly Panasonic is looking even more exciting, with 70+ degrees FOV (compared to 53 degrees on EM3), amazing 2560x2560 resolution per eye!, 120Hz, and 6DOF. WOW... come on Panasonic, take my money!!! :-)

      I have backed too many Kickstarterr projects that went bust. Many promises (enlargeing the screen with a handgesture in that first video), a startup company founded in 2018 without its own website, no previous projects, I can't find anything about the name Stephany Clark attached to the company. Far too many red flags for me.
      Mind you, I could be wrong and in the future we'll see kids everywhere running happily into oncoming traffic while watching Netflix. Iin that case: Am I the only one feeling lots of court cases coming up?

    Note they only have 1080p (2k) displays in each eye. The resolution does not double when you present the same image to each eye, it stays the same. So it is not a "4K" display. Secondly, the 800-inch is from 20 meters away (as in a movie theater). Not off to a good start in terms of their claims.

    • @archamian
      @archamian 3 роки тому

      Their claims and advertising are certainly misleading. The screen appearing to be 800" would only be feasible if they were using light field optics to allow the focal plane to appear far enough away. In the demo it looks like a virtual focal plane of about a meter so the equivalent of a 32" display. As you mentioned only 1080p per eye and to achieve a pixel density PPI of 3147 would require a screen of .7 inches. At 28" the PPI is 78 and at 800" as they claim it would be a PPI of 2.75.

    1:00 "resolution over 3000ppi" - PPI does not matter. What's the angular size of pixel ?

    • @As_Ss
      @As_Ss 3 роки тому

      It matters, 3000 PPI is density, at 3000 PPI density its like human eye clarity, the oleds are very very small, sony had something like this years ago, it was HMZ T and it had also 3000 ppi as this is what it needs to be at human eye level

    • @sergeikulikov4412
      @sergeikulikov4412 3 роки тому

      @@As_Ss You just can't measure clarity in raw PPI. You should use "pixel angular size" at least for phrases like "human eye clarity"
      For example: 25ppi on a laptop screen at 50cm from your eye (1°8'45" per pixel) will look blurry, but the same 25ppi at movie theater screen from 10m range (0°0'21" per pixel) will look like "human eye clarity" and above it.

    Only 800"? I demand a virtual screen so large that no matter how much I move I never leave the middle of it. At least couple solar systems wide.

    • @Niilomaan
      @Niilomaan 3 роки тому

      I actually had time to watch the video now and I don't get it. If it has no 6DOF cameras or AR capability, then how the f*** can it be 800"? That's not possible. The size comes from comparing your head movement to the projected virtual screen. If the screen is glued to your head then it moves with your head, which means it's just the size it physically is. In that case only spec that matters is the degrees of view the screen can fill, the distance the screen is from your eyes (since your eye can't see as clearly too close in) and the resolution it can hold.
      Specs say this thing has 53° FOV. For resolution it only says 4K, so we'll assume the screen is 3840x2160. That's same as viewing 55" 4K TV 4 feet (~120cm) away.
      That's 72.4 pixels per degree. That's actually an insane number compared to any VR headsets, where even the latest ones only offer around 20 PPD and 1st gen VR only gave around 10 PPD.
      So, while the 800" screen is obviously bullshit, this seems like a decent product for what it is, meaning virtual close up high resolution monitor / TV. Why not just say it directly and instead spin all this advertising bullshit?

    • @Niilomaan

But, to be honest I'd rather save wasting any money on this toy, for an actually usable solution like the upcoming Panasonic VR Viewer with 2560x2560 per eye, 120Hz, and (importantly) 6DOF!

    Oh wow, they're still trying to push this crap? These kind of glasses have been around since uh.. the 90's (Sony Glasstron stands out iirc), admittedly with lower resolution, but not really 25+ years worth of changes. These aren't even close to true 4k res (3840x1080- guys, you're missing an extra 1080 on horizontal!) yet they keep claiming they are, but hey, at least they are OLED.. at 60hz with no mention of response rate. To make matters worse, they retail for close to the price of a G2 and definitely in line with the price of the G1. To be clear, the early bird special with it's 38% discount is $529 USD, which means that when the EM3's go to market, they'll be well over $650 USD!! If these were say, 150-300 bucks, sure, i could see the appeal maybe, but right now they seem like a modern rehash of a failed product, especially when you consider that the quest 2 actually has a higher res than these do and is a fraction of the price. I do not believe the SDE claim either. Even the reverb at 300% ss still has SDE in the sweetspot (even though it will make your computer want to die). I can smell a lot of these on the horizon though, Panasonics looks like it'll be the best spec wise as of right now!

  • @dino3262

    Not a particularly compelling product at that price point. Give it a higher resolution with at least 144 refresh rate at that price and it would be an alternative to a gaming monitor.

      Yes, too expensive for what it is. Only HD 1920x1080 per eye (not 4K), only 60Hz, only 3DOF so you have to constantly move your eyes to see everything (highly fatiguing). I'd pay maybe $199. But, to be honest I'd rather save wasting any money on this toy, for a proper actually usable solution like the upcoming Panasonic VR Viewer with 2560x2560 per eye, 120Hz, and (importantly) 6DOF!

      The 2 aren't really comparable, they are very different devices for very different consumers.
      I personally would go quest 2 all the way but I can see the appeal of something like this for certain people. The form factor is definitely a huge benefit, if you're someone that travels a lot on public transport then this would be much more reasonable than a quest 2.

      Huh? This is a totally different product. I'm not going to wear a Quest on the plane to watch movies or play games, heck I'm not going to use a Quest to watch UA-cam at home. Don't buy into the marketing BS about 800" screens, you can make an 800" screen in the Q2 or any other headset.
