  • Zac Oyama plays himbos as a form of mercy. If he plays as anything else Brennan's shit will be rocked every season within 2 episodes
    Not much room to play around with the setting for this one, so I tried to focus more on the atmosphere and the acting. I tried to make it look as much like Game of Thrones as I could. I have never watched an episode of Game of Thrones in my life.

    Lapin really made me want Zac do more serious/smart/tactical characters. He always plays the most lovable goofballs but lapin with the whole *redacted* thing it really left me wanting more. I also just reallllllyy want another season of A Crown Of Candy. Maybe following the backup characters that didn’t get used or maybe just a time skip with a whole new adventure. ACOC is probably my favorite world that D20 has created so far, so much so that I want a lore book for Comida more than any of the other lands tbh I fucking adore this series

    • @Toph_Not_E-Bender
      @Toph_Not_E-Bender Рік тому +133

      I also agree!! But unfortunately the cast has said that ACOC was the most stress they've ever had on set as was incredibly taxing. Having to roleplay your daughter dying was apparently very rough on Lou's mental health. So unlikely we'll ever get a second season of ACOC. But holy shit I would buy the fuck out of a campaign guide and lore book of that world

    • @sethbennett617
      @sethbennett617 Рік тому +21

      What would be interesting, would be to see what happens to the party when they go to comida again. They could have maybe a more light hearted short side quest. We could explore the hinted romance between liam and primsy, there could be a bit of ,chaotic, bumbling comedy as amethar adjusts to his role as emperor. And maybe we see the complex politics than cumulous, theo, saccharina and ruby have to navigate as they try to make magic less taboo. Hell, we could even some nice tension between them and whoever replaced the belizabeth brassica.
      And, it would give us opportunity to actually explore the other 5 nations, since we literally only saw candia, the dairy sea, and comida. We didnt actually go to any of the other cities.
      Plus, it would be nicer for brennan, because he already has a pre built world, that can basically just run itself. He just has to deepen some of the lore, maybe iron out some stuff, and just narrate some more fun moments.

    • @zen_ccg
      @zen_ccg Рік тому +19

      While they're doing the ACOC minis auction, the FAQ does state specifically that it doesn't rule out there being a season 2. All seasons are fully budgeted to include all new minis and sets
      So basically, I also hope for more ACOC because I found it such a powerfully moving series to watch and would love to explore more of the world. It doesn't need to be as dark as what we got, you could really see the emotional toll on everyone with how heavy the campaign was. But I would love to explore the world again

    • @sethbennett617
      @sethbennett617 Рік тому +10

      @@zen_ccg it would hopefully be done on talespire. But even if it wasnt, theatre of the mind would be perfectly adequate.
      D20 has had 4 theatre of the mind seasons. And all of them have been great.
      And for a lower action, more comedic season, that would be perfect, especially since it would give brennan far far more freedom to do what he wants. You can visibly see the difference between him doing theatre of the mind and physical sets. He is far calmer doing the former.

    this is only possible because the dm is playing the game with the players, not against them. an antagonistic dm would just have them make roles that neuter their character or even worse have the enemy see through the charade. meaning players have to hide everything from the dm instead of working with them to make the best story possible.

    • @Zalied
      @Zalied Рік тому +45

      i think a big difference between these "professional" shows and the antaganist dms is also that players just dont roleplay like this. There are dnd groups that do of course but we are talking average. "i want to pretend im on his side" or stumbling over their words they mutter some minor lie that would never work.
      then you gotta make em roll you cant just let a success happen but if they players roleplay it perfectly a failed roll makes no sense so you dont always have to roll. theres a big difference in at least DC of a roll of a player saying this gem is rare ruby mined from deep withing the dwarven catacombs one stored in a pure platinum case in the dwarven kings personal treasure chamber until it was awarded to the first knight theodin where it was eventually lost when his ship went down to sea. Recently found and worth no less than XXX and saying "hey this gems worth a lot"

    • @idril871
      @idril871 Рік тому +97

      @@Zalied there’re actually a lot of descriptive and metagame dialogues cut from the audio here to enhance animation flow. In the game Brennan indeed asked Zac to make ability checks for his actions. But as you said players’ roleplay makes these checks easier, for example Zac rolled deception with advantage for keradin because he said Lapin was pretending to free keradin from his shackles

      Actually there were rolls called for during this scene, they're just cut out of the audio here. Zac rolled really well on all of them. An insight check which is when Brennan describes the carrot's state of mind, then he didn't have to roll to get the guards to leave the room since he pulled rank, then there was a deception roll to convince the carrot he was in on the plot, and finally a persuasion check to get the guards to perform the arrest.

    I don't know how many times that I've watched this but you did a really good job with it. When you watch animatics of liveplays, there's always awkward moments involving dice rolls where they would be included which can pull from the immersion a bit. Other times, the dice rolls are edited out but the editing is off so there's a weird gap where the dice roll would be. When I watched this for the first time, I thought the moment was entirely just roleplay with no dice rolls which I thought was weird because there should have been a few deception and persuasion checks but you did a really good job with it.

    By far, my favourite thing about this is the sheer amount of thought-out details in expressions and outfits. I'm struck by how obvious it is that Lapin has a collar, yet I wouldn't have thought to include it right off the bat.
    Also the balance of tone and inherent food-people levity is so good. (soft ally Grissini "smoking" a lolliipop)

    Having gone into ACOC blind, witnessing this effing _BEAUTIFUL_ scene... and then knowing this is Game of Thrones universe... seeing blind zealot paladin declare him an apostate... Yeah I'm, uh, actually pretty scared for Lapin now.
    You never have the upper hand for long in this sort of story. And the Candians are on a pretty long winning streak...

    I almost wish Lapin had been a devout follower of the Bulb, because it's rich hearing "apostate" coming from an attempted assassin of a church-appointed monarch. It's a small missed-opportunity to not see Keradin dressed down for that. Would have also shown later, when Lapin was killed for defending the Candians, that being devout actually mattered very little to the church.
