"There's not even a PvP tag on Steam"... brother literally right above where you're talking about it says "popular USER DEFINED tags". That's not the developers tags. You don't have access to that information on Steam and need 3rd party apps to see them. I literally do on care about this game at all, but I do care about you spreading misinformation about how Steam works as a result of your own illiteracy or carelessness.
this is true but i stand by them literally showing nothing even related to it in all of their advertising/information shown on steam other than the official steam tags. It's pretty much exclusively referred to as a "team based action game." the fact that it's not in the popular user defined tags is also uniquely baffling.
also i do not have 3rd party apps on steam that is just steam and how it presents any game on the store

This reminds me of Lost Planet 2 an amazing AA game that people ignored until after it was dead. I really hope that this doesn't go down that same path though, it has all the parts needed to make a rad game, just needs time to evolve.
Capcom took LP2 off steam almost 2 years ago now to fix GFWL.
still hasn’t been fixed. Luckily I still have my physical copy for 360 that works on my Xbox One

In my own opinion it gets better the more you play with a weak start, it’s a lot more fun the closer you get to the end of the story
Still mad that the game is cross platform but not cross party on launch, EVEN though you have to do Capcom account linking like Epic Games.

Got mine from Gamepass. This game is a blast, It's great for getting off a long day of work, drinking a beer, and killing dinos with your friends. Its refreshing not having to sweat my ass off to have a good time. 9/10 imo

Inevitably more niche stuff always ends up that way particularly if it's in regards to pvpve/ pvp scenarios. Just adds to the questionable design direction/focus
I went into the game, and after a full days worth of play, wasnt really s old because of the extreme lack of mission and enemy variety, but the second day surprised me because seemingly overnight, a absolute MASSIVE amount of different events, mission layouts and dinos had become a part of the game. Im not sure if i hit a part of the story that unlocked that stuff, or if they are literally drip feeding dinosaurs day by day, but the game feels MUCH more fun with the added variety, even if its not perfect.
It's part of the story. You know those special missions where you are dragged into the virtual environment and have a special challenge and some story cutscenes?
At the end of those, the AI straight up tells you he is increasing the variety of the scenarios he is going to throw you into.
There is an initial wall a lot of people won't get over, but it's definitely not the game lacking content, it's just a jumbled mess all in one game mode with some questionable progression and a silly story wheel you HAVE to interact with to get full mission access in time. ITS A MESS LOL
the game basis it's mode and dinos off of the lowest leveled player in the lobby. As people get their levels up all the cool/hard shit starts appearing more commonly. literally fight nothing but neosaurs and multiple rex's/triceratops. Game is actually crazy fun with all the chaos

The initial reviews being negative was because people were having the mindset that Exoprimal is gonna be a similar game that's competing against EDF (probably the best example) because based on trailers and all preemptive information, it didn't really tell you that this game was only going to just be PvPvE which was also the biggest drawback for me. I would've bought the game myself if it were just mindless dino horde shooter with wacky bootleg Warframe mechs but instead it's just an attempt on basically Overwatch(?) Also the gamemodes feels so repetitive that I highly doubt this game would last long at all

In essence, every multiplayer is already repetitive, this is not the problem since the game manage well on it as long you progress story.
Exoprimal is a good game. You need to advance the story in order to unlock new game modes and maps.

I clicked on this video hoping for praise on the writing and the screwdriver. I was actually impressed by the way they used the conversations around the screwdriver to talk about plot relevant existential topics.

This is the best bloody screwdriver (i liked the story, it was fun to me and i didnt get bothered or anoyed by the circoe of loreeeeee but is my opinion)
Unpopular opinion the story is actually pretty interesting if you listen to unlocks in the wheel and watch the cutscenes. Though I wish they did choose one or the other!
i wish they did too! the story wasn't bad it was just a dumb time travel story you simply accept and laugh. i draw the line at some people trying to gas up the writing though, just because it's all voice acted doesn't make the writing inherently good it's starting to get me LOL.
Hopped into the game with 3 other friends because we saw goofy dinosaur killing game with cool powered suits and on our first game we get rolled by 5 players with crazy mechs and abilities sabotaging our box delivery and we didn't know how to do it back. I was the only one that kept playing. The moral of this story is to have a better explanation of how modes worked bc I had no idea how to counter sabotage. We also picked PvE and were not expecting to see that. Just thought we had to speedrun faster.
That game just feels like it wanted to be something else entirely any time I play it. Like they wanted to make a co-op horde shooter, but then also wanted to make a pvp hero shooter and it does neither one convincingly, nor combine the two meaningfully. Anxious to see if it survives long enough to figure itself out.
The weirdest part of the game is how much fun it is to just get lost in a single game mode. With extra content and hopefully them keeping all the exosuits balanced it's just easy to keep playing. I played like 4 to 5 hours my first time lol. Fun video!

capcom had to do 1 of 2 things to make this a great game.
1. just go all in on the F2P model and monetization systems. Just accept that is what you made and live with it.
or 2. add some sort of single player/co-op story mode. They could've dropped the whole rouge AI abducting pilots from across time and gone with an EDF style plot. Just redress the dino survival mode as a training exercise against simulated dinos and you are good. Or if they were really all in on the rouge AI storyline just make the island an open world with a L4D style spawn system for the dinos and you could explore the island to find out what happened and why the Ai went rogue. Either way you move the story into a more engaging system instead of checking a data wheel between gameplay.
There IS content in this game, however… they threw everything they had into one gamemode where you are unable to choose what exactly you’re going to do aside from opting out of pvp. There ARE fun things to do in this game, but you’re essentially rolling the dice on just mindlessly killing raptors, or doing a cool 10 player boss fight. It also kind of stinks that newer players are going to have to slog through a good 6 hours or so of the same old thing before they actually do engage in anything different.

I think the fragmentation of the story was necessary. Hardly anyone is going to wait for their friends' cutscenes to play, so you watch them later anyway, and then see a bunch of other videos you can watch. It's wonky, but more engaging than JUST a list.
actually you HAVE to go through the wheel to get full mission access so if you're not proactive you actually fall behind. (supposed to take 55 games, took me 68 cuz i didn't interact with it for a while) very silly considering several 'cutscenes' with no context unlock still on the way
On one hand,the hate towards Exo Primal before launch was not deserved, while as a Dino Crisis fan myself i hated the fact this is not you know, Dino Crisis during reveal

Yeah this is weird, it shouldnt exist but the fact it somehow put effort on being fun and playable makes it tolerable
The structure is definitely weird but I'm actually preferring that over how a lot of games are doing things, maybe I just like weird, out there stuff but I paid full price for this game and I haven't regretted it yet its fun as fuck and doesn't feel grindy like other live service games
this kind of model (live service) does not work for niche stuff, the only reason it's gonna be able to maintain a playerbase for a while is because it's on gamepass. It just looks like a game that was sent out to die despite having like everything it needed to potentially succeed. Which is why it's so irritating
@@RedRiotRoss it's even more irritating because of the people that were behind it, to my knowledge the Producer is the creator of Dino Crisis and the Lost Planet guys made up a lot of the dev team. Capcom seem content to support this but they also don't, it's weird. I'm hoping it can at least find a player base dedicated to it like say For Honor but it's not looking good from the other games that have already been discontinued around it

Story is pretty much disconnected from the gameplay and makes it feel unnecessary. Nithing is more funny to me when I unlock a story beat and the characters go "Oh wow Ace I cant believe you managed to collect this data/magufin, good job!" What are you talking about Iiterally just played the first lvl for the 15th time, I didn't collect shit. Most of the in game story telling that Leviathan gives you you'll never hear because he stops telling you once you reach the next objective that you are racing towards because its a TIME ATTACK. Like the Neo Trex fight, oh you just met and fought Durbhan the main antogonist that all the characters hate? Well good for you it won't ever be mentioned by anbody how he controlled the simulation and tried to kill you.The story is ultimately pointless to include in the game mode because it serves to do nothing.

It IS fun gameplay which at this point is what's annoying me. Why is it packaged the way it is 🤷
I have no idea why the developers decided to shoot their own game in the knees by locking the more fun and advanced scenarios behind 20 games of killing the same swarms of raptors and pterodactyls. The game becomes immensely better once the Neosuars, Stegosauruses and T-Rexs are added into the mix.
Not to mention the most fun games seemingly only happen once; fighting in a 10 man party against semi-difficult waves of dinos or the Neo-T-Rex. Honestly, I'd be happy if we got 2 playlists, PvEvP and Cooperative PvE. Essentially being able to choose between only matching into the 10 man co-op or the 5v5 competitions. Ideally, you also be able to pick between the matches where you actively fight each other or just race, but the playerbase is already gonna dwindle to too low for even a basic separation.
I'd also like the ability to set my end of match preferences so I don't have to do the stupid cube escort anymore.

Its business model feels rather strange. It's way too polished for a F2P game but also certainly too expensive with all the microtransactions, battle pass and overall underwhelming story

I'll never forget when I was on Zephyr fighting two other Zephyrs and I literally beat them in the 2v1 mirror match because of modules. And I was missing my moves. 10/10
Gameplay is great, the weriting quality surprisingly good, price too high, and unfamiliar, but fun, game modes(PvE races)
I'm also happy that the battle pass is 50 and pretty straightforward and not cluttered with multiple reskins or super inflated with bikcoins or resources.

Promising game that decided to not stand out by using common game practices. Really if this was just EDF or L4D with dinosaurs I would have been happy, but the competitive angle from it being pvp just turns me off.
Well Capcom was due one bad game at least with how its been doing the last few releases all at least being good. Hopefully they can improve it or learn from it.

Wanted to buy the game till I saw the PvPvE aspect. Still might buy it later at a cheaper price but not anytime soon. Really needed to be advertised better.

I actually think this game's premise is great. Its not implemented all that cleanly but its definitely well thought out and intergrated, and it's certainly novel... Very rarely do any of these kinds of games that they actually have a sound reason for the game mode to actually exist and make sense, and I've found the slow burn does make the story resonate really well as a mystery.
Granted right from the start i let myself be bought into the idea that each run is a hunt for the data packets which when you do that turns it into this fun loop of doing a game, then going to the board to see what it is you've discovered and trying to put the pieces together. It also does something that few games have even come close to doing even basically competently which is letting the supporting cast breathe and develop for you to care about. Its nice to have every single data file give more context to who they are, who we are and why we should care.
Things i think need tweaking though, it is a very jrpg style of slow burn, it asks you to commit to the story its telling and asks you to trust it to deliver, which can be a hard sell for rpgs let alone a game that is essentially destiny's gambit with Dino's... But it also seems happy to reward those that do with that story... But they probably could afford to maybe increase the xp rewards so people get to those juicier bits faster, and maybe attach some extra rewards like currency to the analysis nodes.
Secondly, and we now know this is getting rectified over time starting next week. We need some more game modes, and maybe some more variations to the objectives of the main game mode early, maybe code it in that you cannot have tye same objectives more than once in a row. We also need some form of text chat, not everyone is ok with voice comms and its awkward if you don't use them and you use something like Mura and get those awkward moments where jothing hits your countrr stance cause a witchdoctor stunned them all.
Thirdly and lastly for me... We need better tutorialising, which feeds back to better objective spread, cause it takes so long for people to even get comfortable with the idea that they should swap suits or that doing so doesn't carry a penalty.
You unlock trhe next mode after you finish the final challenge. But its not out yet until later this month.
The way that you finish the game and you get a big ol teaser and at the beginning of the last sentence it just says "content not yet available" its pretty comical
Like I said though idk if that's gonna be the pull that the game would need to survive. It'll stay alive for as long as it's on gamepass imo
This game is great, but and at least CAPCOM made the right decision on how missions are run, and how progression works, and you won’t really get it right away, but here is how I put it together:
Imagine having to kill 4 spitters, 8 boomers, 2 chargers, and 3 tanks right off the get go in a LFD2 game, and you haven’t played much at all, like this is your first game, and you just bought the game.

Now when you get “better gear”(Molotovs, pipe bombs, snipers, shotguns, ETC). Killing those special enemies don’t seem that hard no more right? And you got a few more wins under your belt and you found some friends to run it down with?
That’s how Exoprimal’s progression works, and it builds of your experiences with the game already.
Along with actually getting to know characters and getting modules, and unlocking rigs to do stuff
No dude the progression is a free to play in game currency sink, it's stupid. It's not "RIGHT" lol. It's not a massive disparity but there is a literal Inherent advantage to any exosuit at level 6 compared to level 1. (Your first ability module unlock across the board) nowhere did I say your quoted game no fun too hard NOWHERE lol. You are reaching here it's just outright numbers man there's no argument
There is ABSOLUTELY ZERO REASON to have the modules unlock fully by leveling them up individually. That is artificial progression!! It is pointless!!
This is a pvpve game you cannot make direct pve game comparisons it is not the same my dude, you are always pit against another team or whisked away from it all into ai raid.

Downloaded the game on game pass because I thought, hey, fighting off hordes upon hordes of dinos sounds fun. Play game, feel the cheap free-to-play vibes and immediately get disappointed that you still have to engage in PvP against the enemy teams dominator even on the PvE mode so ya, this game seems like it'll be dead in the water in just a few months

They promised us Dinosaur PvE and gave us mixed PvP/PvE
We wanted dinosaur killing and thought this game would end up being Overwatch 2.
This game is what Overwatch 2 SHOULD have been, but throw in Titanfall 2 and Monster Hunter.
It's fun as hell. It feels actually rewarding. The multiplayer is unexpectedly refreshing every match, rather than repetitive or mundane.
I have issues here and there with Exoprimal, but they don't drag down the experience for me personally. I get to brawl with literally 1000 raptors flooding from the sky?? If you ask me, this game is everything we need in a pvp experience right now. Play it immediately. Play it before it gets ruined by the playerbase. Play it while it's fresh and exciting. It's free on Game Pass. *Just don't play Overwatch 2 when you could be playing this.*
This game reminds me of Left 4 Dead, okay? It's polished, fun, satisfying, it's everything I need right now. Definitely play this with friends. Capcom always does an amazing job with crossplay, and this game is on Gamepass.
Maybe it'll get better. Maybe it'll get worse. Live service games are predictable lately, but this is a change in a weird, awkward, albeit fun direction. It's worth at LEAST trying. I agree with what Ross is saying, it's just...I'm not nearly as distraught. I'm pleasantly surprised. I was hoping for more of a co-op storymode experience, but what this turned out to be is still really fun.

I don't even mind the pvp in this game since it's at least more engaging than the pve stuff(when you're not getting stunlocked). But since 95% of it it pve that means it doesn't really matter, you're just gonna be clearing waves of the same dinos over and over. They managed to make mindless violence feel like a chore, as if they made the least interesting part of a MOBA(the farming) into a whole game but without the in-match progression.
Have to disagree with the combat in general being fun btw. Since all the enemies are dinos and they didn't get creative with anything(no gun wielding troodons or acid spitting dinos), all you get is several varieties of 'run at player and bite them', which means you can just gun them down or stand on a ledge.
It is a list of ever growing minor decisions that inevitably kills the fun that's there in favor of 'perpetual gameplay'
Wait, did you not get far in this game at all? You know there are other dinosaur types than just raptors, pteradons and the occasional medium to big size dinos right?
It's another example of people being initially turned away on the initial cube grind before anything extra starts getting put into the rotation, also the database wheel being mandatory to get later different missions. Questionable design.
@RedRiotRoss database wheel is fortunately not mandatory (at least it hasn't been for me so far and I think I'm about to fight the final boss) unless you want to know more about the games story, I'm not gonna act like I disagree with most of the comments do far though, the game definitely needs more enemy variety not just in mini boss and boss dinos but in general too. On the bright side a strictly pve gamemode is coming next week
