I'm not sure why Apple has done this but the iMac M1 looks sooo much better in person than it looked in their keynote. The design truly is stunning. It's likely the prettiest PC I've ever seen.

Nice to see a review that talks about gaming performance. I am not a gamer anymore but it is good way of measuring and comparing performance to other computers. As for a smaller screen allowing you to focus, this was brought up a lot as a pro for using the iPad. If a smaller screen helps you focus, great. But, at a certain point one should put effort into developing the self discipline to not get distracted or loose focus. More tech isn't always the answer to improving one's life.
This is so true! There is sooo many of this, people spending way too much on tech to “help them focus” or put up with inconvenient stuff thinking it benefits them. You should try to focus better instead of spending money.
So glad you mentioned the screen size/productivity point. I am SOOOOO much more productive this way. Also, I am actually using that multiple desktop slidy over thingy on the iMac which is actually like having more screens anyway, but now that I am used to it, I am way more efficient on it! iMac all the way now.

You can always use sidecar if you need a second screen. Great review. I’ve been through a similar transition from MacBook Pro to the Mac Mini - it definitely makes me appreciate my MacBook more because I’m using it for its actual purpose.

Exactly. Honestly its kinda annoying when some new tech comes out and despite being inferior all the UA-camr's are like you know going from a 49" to a 24" has been refreshingly great. Come on doing video editing on a 24" standard screen compared to a 49" ultra- widescreen and working on a timeline doesn't and shouldn't even be compared.
Hi Ali! I love your consumer approach! Did you try adjusting the resolution with the WoW while gaming? With the retina 4.5k resolution your M1 chip had to render over 50% pixels on the screen than even your superultrawide you had earlier (11million compared to 7million). That is probably the reason your framerate dropped so much after the swap. One GPU core should affect that much.
From how you're describing it, it sounds like you're making a ton of sacrifices/downgrades. The only real positive is that you have a sharper display, and the main reason it's noticeable is because it's a small screen, though the resolution does play a part too. As long as you're happy with the setup, that's all that matters though.
